Trinity is not having different classes, its having different class-roles. And that we dont have in STO, as everything is DPS in PvE. Sure, you can make a supporter, but the best support is DPS. So its not like other MMOs, were Trinity is needed for upper class raids and such. Thats what I meant.
In PvP you have at least a duality, as you have Tacs as DD and Eng/Sci as Healer/Debuffer.

To that I would agree. Maybe (at some point very early in the game?) they had some notion of true divergent roles, but these days, indeed, it's all about the DPS, and nobody needs a healer, really (at least not in PvE). Being self-sufficient is probably part and parcel of the casual nature of this game.

Still, like you say, I have found some sort of median skill set, that's mostly offensive-oriented, but allows me to fly Sci-ships too. So, that actually underlines my point: there's no real incentive for me to spend 500 Zen on a respec.

The one thing that annoys me is that I cant buy 500 zen for 4.99 eu anymore, I have to buy 1180 and it's ****ing rediculous.

Wow, they've gotten pretty bad with it there. They've even removed it telling you how much the $ got you by just clicking on a payment - you have to go further in the process just to see how much you're buying. Meh, that is getting pretty stupid there.

Or they feel respeccing wouldn't accomplish any significant changes to their builds.

I always try to optimize my builds. My previous ships did not really use shield heals and as such I didn't put any points into shield emitters.

Now I'm in my amazing pvp fleet patrol escort refit and have two shield heals (not including rsp). I am compelled to respec my tree, just for emitters and further push extra points that my were freed by the transition.

I would love to change my alt's trees around but my main would is still gaining befits by having all the zen. If the respecs were cheaper, I'd buy them.

i simply don't buy Skill respecs because :

too many alts - too expensive.

the allowed max points aren't enough to cover space and ground.

i don't like that you can only assign 300k space and 100k ground max, when you only have 366k assignable

this means it's either going to be :
    300 k space and 66k ground
    or
    266 k ground and 100 k space

so, it ends up being either a space or ground toon.

making the "Max. Allowed" in to the "allocable amount" from 366k to 400k so we could allocate 300k space and 100k ground would make sense in the aspect that that character would be effective in ground or space.

that would not conflict with builds. it would just allow the character to be useful and everyone would win. whay ?

I've talked with several players, that said they don't "Do ground" when i ask them how many points they have, they say they placed them mostly on space, and ground has the barely minimal.
so they're toons aren't effective on ground, they fair poorly bad on ground and therefore, don't like ground, so ... they don't buy ground gear and so on.

allowing toons to have enough points to be effective on ground, could also help criptic selling ground related gear.

Well, after looking at how little most 7-9 and some 4-6 skills you can make ground pretty decent. A general pve/pvp space build is actually pretty decent with only specialized builds suffering.
