I just installed the game yesterday and know nothing about anything.
All was working fine. I made my wonderful Trill scientist, I ran around the ship, I went to chat with the captain... Someone knocked at my door and I went idle and was signed out.
Now the game will no longer load. I keep getting this message:
Fatal Error: Unable to initialize on-demand patching and connect to Patch Server: The connection was idle for too long.
Then it comes up with a CrypticError: Oops! I submit that and then nothing. Try and try again and the same thing happens.
Can anybody help, please? The Borg are trying to assimilate me!
Something may have decided to start blocking part of the game. Please contact PWE Tech Support if you continue to have problems and the long winded info below does not help you.
----
Please restart your PC and network hardware first.
You may have to be on a Windows Admin account, or have Run as Admin access to be able to download, install, update, and run the game. If on Windows Vista or 7, you may have to change the level of your UAC settings or turn them off temporarily.
After you get the game updated and get in game, you can uninstall Pando Media Booster or shut it down (PMB.exe in Windows Task Manager) if you start getting unusual lag spikes, system resource problems, bandwidth issues, or other network issues. Info about pando issues: https://support.perfectworld.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/4042
You may need to update or install the latest Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable. You may need to update your version of Windows, also may need to update to the latest version of DirectX and Internet Explorer 8 or 9 with Javascript enabled. You may also need to check or change your network settings.
You can try adding the game folder/files to your exceptions list in your antivirus and firewall software. Please see the help menu or support website for the software that you use if you aren't sure how to do it.
At your own risk, you may have to disable your antivirus, firewall, and other security software temporarily while you download, install, update, login to, and play the game. Sometimes the security software will block it or throttle it, no matter what you try or even if you try to add exceptions for the game files in your security software.
You may also have to disable, shut down, uninstall, or disable any: torrent, keyboard/mouse, web browser toolbars, video/screen capture, gamepad/input device, multimedia, Instant Messaging, voice over IP, web browser games, other games software applications before downloading, installing, updating, logging into, and playing the game. Basically shut down all non-essential programs.

What exactly did you try in the information presented to you?
i'm in my second year college computer programming, what havent i tried on my end?.....when i ping the patchserver it times out, ive allowed access through my firewall for all the files, i disabled my anti-virus software, ive tried everything i can think of 2 days troubleshooting now, sounds like a server side issue to me, almost like my ip is blocked The error is Fatal Error: on-demand patching , connection to patch server timed out. i also tried disabling the on-demand patching and still get that error, i have force verified, uninstalled, reinstalled, unistalled, redownloaded, and reinstalled, this isnt on my end, its server end, and it seems like everyone who has this issue cannot get it fixed.....look forward to the patch that fixes it and causes different problems....should be released in 2 days like every other patch lol...........Just figured out it is server-sided....when im at school on my computer and my ip address is different i can play......at home its a no go because the server is probably blocking my ip
omg man i just told you what i did, i did everything u asked, and i fixed it anyways....changed my ip address while at school and when i came back the ip switched back and now it works.....either that or disabling the UAC did it, but that doesnt make sense as it worked before with UAC on...so to answer the original question, try turning UAC off, if that doesnt work, change you're ip address
I have the same problem. It worked perfectly til two days ago. Turning UAC did not work. I also restored my computer to an earlier time when the game DID work, and now all of a sudden it doesn't. Any other suggestions? Because im going through withdrawl of the game...

Ensure that you have a firewall exclusion setup for STO, the file you're looking for will be titled "GameClient.exe" without the quotes. You can even test this out by simply disabling your firewall software, be it Windows Firewall or another 3rd party software.
Did you fully disable your firewall or just add an exclusion? You should try to disable the entire thing then test, at least that way you can fully rule out your firewall or find that it's the culprit. Also, how many different security software's are installed on your system? You should only have one installed as they love to butt heads if you have more than one and they do NOT function like you think they are. Just something to keep in mind. Keep on reposting here so we can work this out.
Ive tried everything man. I did everything you listed above. I even restored my computer to a time when the game DID work. nothing. But thanks for trying to help anyway.
Wait.. I searched for GameClient.exe and nothing showed up.. this could be why its not working haha. But, everything is installed including the Star Trek Online game. It will let me sign in, and it will even patch, but it loads on the screen that says "Cryptic." . And dont suggest to reinstall it. Cause ive done that to. I use it with steam btw.
-edit: Scratch that. Its there :P . Ive set all my firewalls to let it work. Still.. nothing..
I know this is a bit outdated, but I have just recieved the same problem? So anyone who managed to get it fixed can you tell me what I did?
I cant switch the UAC because my dad doesnt want it off, and I REALLY want to play the game again
Also, my IP adress changed everytime I reset my homehub, and I do that basically every week, because my internet has a tendancy to go down when I play on the xbox.
On Friday night June 13th I got a fatal error server time out. I was forced to re-install the sto game client. Is there a way to avaoide having to do that if it happens again?
