Hi Everyone,
So this is sort of a follow up to a previous post I had. Cutting to the chase, I'm working on building the Scim I bought during the sale. I've read a number of posts that I could find on this forum and looked at some of builds on STOAcademy. Basically, I'm curious if anyone has has recommendations on any of the builds out on STOA or if you have your own I could work towards?
Here's some info that I can provide
This is the tactical Scimitar I bought
I am almost done (maybe another day's worth) with the Omega Reputations (which will help with borg/omega consoles)
I am 3/4th's of the way done with the Romulan rep (will help in getting Zero Point console)
Haven't started on Dyson/Nukara/Undine
Toon: Rom Engineer
I have the following consoles (mind you i'm posting this at work so this list is off the top of my head):
Borg Assimilated Console
Valdore Console
Photonic Displacer (helped me get out of sticky situations so far)
Subspace Field Modulator
I have a plasmonic leetch, but it's on my fed/kdf toon. I should be able to move that to my Rom character via shared bank. I wish I had 35M ec to buy a 3rd one
I want to go DHC for this ship and I'm currently running the Obelisk so I am gonna work from scratch to get the right skill's for my BoFF"s (based upon anyone's insight) as right now they're set for beams.
I am not in a fleet (I only have some weekends to play and very sparingly during the week) so unfortunately, I'm a loner out there in space. I mainly PVE, tried PVP but sucked badly
Any advice/guidance is greatly appreciated!
Thanks

Question, why the scatter volley vs rapid fire? By no means am I an expert on the skills, but wouldn't rapid fire produce a more concentrated attack on a single target?
Thanks!
Better to kill 3 birds with a scatter then to pick one off with a snipe.
I actually run crf, less aggro+bosses melt twice as fast. but there's something to be said about killing three enemies a few seconds slower then just one...ya know?

I would suggest plasma. That way he can use the experimental Romulan beam array, which is a great tool, and so is the console. Which he can improve further later if he join a fleet with an embassy console.
Sure, ap are better for a rom thanks to the CtrD, but they are difficult to obtain outside a fleet.
The beam is a good choice, if he was going for beams.
But I can't seem to think of any cannon ap weapons without using fleet...
Bud, come join a fleet

"Sphere of Influence" mission has the option of AP Beam Arrays at Mk XI Rare, Acc x2.
Sure, they're not Fleet level AP beams, but they're free and they're "Real Antiproton Weapons" unlike the Voth and such.
But Cannons & Turrets? Yeah...
Maybe you're right Dahminus, perhaps I should join a fleet. Personally, it's kinda sucky for me cause I maybe spend about 3 hours total a week. Not sure if that becomes deadweight or asset.
What abouit the regular mk XI / XII AP dhc's on the exchange? can those hold me over until until I am ready to move to a fleet?
btw, looking at the build out, would you think adding the omni directional ap beam in the aft + kinetic cutting beam? Or maintain the 2 other turrets for the volley scatter?
Sorry that I skipped that, posting from a phone can leave some things overlooked

The revamped 'Assimilation' mission gives Mk XI purple [acc][crth][dmg] AP beams, very nice.
Outside of really big (>400) and really small (<30), you'd be an asset to most fleets. The fleet I'm in has no participation requirements beyond not getting flagged as inactive by STO (45 days without logging onto that char).
Since AP weapons do not drop in game, only Mk XI standard AP is on the exchange, which are either crafted or mission rewards. The standard Mk XI AP DHCs should do well enough.
Totally forgot about the mk xi's on the exchange. I think i'll work with semi after market AP DHC's.
I'm also trying to work towards my own plasmonic leech. what's a good sub until my Rommy gets his own PL.
Maco shields.
It's a Plasmonic leech when you have aggro...and as a schimitar, you'll probably have aggro

That being said, I would consider only Fleet APs if you were to buy Antiproton weaponry. Anyway, I have switched to Disruptor (from Fleet AP mind you) dual heavies and using enhanced biomolecular torpedo with C-C tactical console and complete Protonic Arsenal set. Anyway, you would need to be specced for torpedoes as well to make use of it and mine's a PvP build.
Get a Plasmonic Leech and Valdore's console, Assimilated module, drop cloaked barrage, fit 5 spire tactical consoles and fill the rest with turn console, namely enhanced neutroniums in case of PvE. (you don't have the Advanced Scimitar Systems set correct? If you do, then load them all and enjoy setting off Thalaron).
DHC Scimitar faceroll beam Scimitar.
To the OP really, use dual heavies. They require a lot more skill, that not everyone has, rather than broadsiding and find yourself destroyed. No beam Scimitar has even surpassed a DHC build in effectiveness. And "damage" means little thing if it takes more time to beat something.
PvP wise, I don't use turrets anymore. 4 Disruptor Dual Heavies front with enhanced biomolecular torpedo. Aft I have the KCB, Experimental Proton and the Gravimetric torpedo to keep the set running. Anyway, PvP offensive builds tend to do fine in PvE, at least mine has no problem facerolling NPCs the rare times I do. Try to not be so heavy with energy weapons, they still drain heavily weapon power that you will need to mitigate (thoron-infused core is a must nowadays). A DHC is -12. a turret is -8. Doing the maths with 5 duals and 2 turrets that's a massive 76 power drain.
Here's a pro tip To not go too broke: Run 4 DHC and gravimetric torpedo, with Exp Proton aft and Proton Particle Stabilizer console. Set is arguably one of the best out there; set 2 has +3% CrtH, +22,9% damage with photon torpedoes, set 3 +10% Critical hit chance with photon torpedoes and +10% Critical Severity. If you can respec, put six points in torpedo training and specialization to make them nasty.
In that case, go for which ever colour you like best,

That's Riccardo and Dahminus!! I really appreciate the help! You guys are putting me on the right path to shoot for!
Hope I don't get killed by either of you guys on PVP
so an old build not done this in a while so dont have an update, but you get the point. had a go just now but just missed out to an invisitorp.
Scimitar Barbie. Everything else is just a toy!
It's a combination of equipment, skill, and doff/boff layouts.
Also, Hyper-plasma torps are hilariously OP in PVE, but completely ineffective in PVP. Switch to an elite fleet quantum if you have to have a torp.
I think that Dahminus knows how to make a good pvp scimi; I can only offer basic tips, such as: Skip plasma weapons, go get protonic polaron or antiproton. Use a sci boff in the LtC boff station instead of an eng boff, and run at LEAST one of all three "team" powers (engineering team, science team, tactical team) at all times.
Also, never use single beams in PVP. They have high DPS with the right build in ISE, but they are USELESS when effective damage (i.e. damage that actually contributes to kills instead of plinking off of a constantly-regenerating target) is concerned.
So many things man...best place to start is to put your build up in the pvp forum. Explain your typical tactics and then you'll get some help

Ive been grinding the rep system (AGAIN) to try and juice him up. Got the Borg Universal and Cutting Beam, the Rom Rep Plasma torp and uni console with the Remen deflector so far. I have tried rom weapons ive unlocked as freebies from rep boxes - beams, DHCs as well as a torp build - but I just dont have the gear yet to make a good go of it. I will say though that IMO - DHCs seem to be the way to go. Not sure why some peeps play the 'its too slow a ship for DHCs' card as I find it turns remarkably well.
I might have made some mistakes slotting my skills as I'm trying Science for the first time and wanted to plop all the points I could into maxing out my Grav Well - which seems to be DEVASTATING even without having the active Doffs to support it yet. I was able to get 2 fleet Sci consoles that beef up my grav well plus 9% plasma dmg, but I foolishly wasnt paying attention and got the ones that INCREASED my threat level instead of decreasing it which has caused me problems.
My fave maneuver right now is hitting up Azure Neb, using Grav Well to suck all the Tholians together in a ball and slamming said group with Torp Spread III and II while I pepper them with plasma cannons. Sadly, my plasma doesnt seem to be doing the dmg I want, so I've been beefing up AUX to get more from my torps/sci abilities.
Fun ship though. I finally see why so many peeps feel its OP. Im just not sure what my next move should be. I want to prioritize it as the grind will be slow and one step at a time - just not sure what to get for it next to improve it.
