They do improve inertia however, no other impulse engine does that. That makes them good for making a big slow ship accelerate and turn a little better without sliding.

I like sliding, I love the decloak alpha strike sideways sliding attack while keeping my nose pointed that I can do in my 3-piece bonus scimitar. It's fun too. Also the decloak full stop spin around firing while moving backwards.... I feel like I'm playing Star trek:Fast and Furious in that thing.

I use the engine on my cruiser for now and the results are "meh". Not really bad but barely noticable. And it would be really nice if the bubble-pop ability would work as its supposed to do.
Unless your engine power is at hi setting, Hyper engine wont do any good. That is one of the reason I don't use hyper engine since I prefer to concentrate my power on weapon/shield/aux. Well if you run a 2xb2a boat then hyper engine is ok. My recommendation is use combat engine and speed boost items/skills to counter those bubbles because hyper engine is pretty useless in all other pugs. I don't really have problem with bubbles cause I avoid them b4 they hit. In case, I got caught in them, I just use the items/skills.

As long as your engine power is over 50. Hyper is always better. Considering that EVERYONE should easily be well over 50 at all times... there is zero reason to ever use a slow engine, outside of possible set bonuses.
On the OPs question. Yes the engine is very good. Its a fast good turn rate Hyper engine. That also provides 5% extra defense... and 10% if you are running the deflector. The deflector is very good. Great for escorts or dmg sci ship.

That's your playing style not everyone's. Why would any1 waste power to engine while they just park the ship at 1 spot and blast thing up. Name any pug in game(except undine) that requires to have a fast moving ship?
Putting power to engine while park and shoot is pretty much stupid thing to do imo. Either use that power for shield or aux (nukara buff.) I don't even bother to move my escorts but just park and use tt+shield. Fyling escort around a target is wasting dps. Maintaining the target in the alpha strike zone equals max def (since all shield power is focus on the forward shield) and dps. Even this tactic work in pvp. Escort advantage is fast turn/stop. The best way to use this advantage is to get behind, stay there and blast thing.
But, hey if you want to waste power to engine it's your choice. We live in a free country after all.

Your free to ignore the games harder content if you like... and the fact that ships have defense ratings.
Your right I guess it is my choice to min max... I assumed most people wanted to max things like there amp core bonuses... and defense ratings.
I guess if defense isn't important to you there is no real reason to look at a engine that revolves around defense rating.
Trying to convince others that what you are saying makes a ton of sense though is silly.
Ships have defense ratings... defense ratings are based on speed first. Yes I agree most of the games NPCs are not smart enough, or powerful enough to take out a player shuttle. Having said that if the OP is interested in PvP they will HAVE to move or they will die instantly... if they are interested in doing speed runs of PvE content... or the harder stfs ect... they will NEED to move.
So what I said is still true... basic skill points and things like Leech will have there engine power well over 50 with out really trying... which makes Hyper >.

I use it on my Scimitar, and the improvement in maneuverability is very noticeable.

So long as the player's captain is spec'd with 6+ Warp Core Efficiency and 6+ Warp Core potential, getting >50 engine power while maintaining 125 Weapon subsystem power is almost trivial.
Combat impulse engines have the slowest top impulse speeds in the game, while Hyper-Impulse are the fastest. Full Impulse Speeds are usually identical, but when you have to use Evasive + Engine Battery or Red Matter Capacitor, Hyper-Impulse Engines quickly leave their Combat Impulse counterparts in the dust. Standard Impulse engines are a nice balanced alternative, but they are never worth using unless part of a space set.

FYI, I've never playing anything but elite pugs. If you have to fly around in STFes; then truly, you're suck big time m8. Hell, I don't event need to fly around in STFes before they made it easier. Sure speed increases defense rating, but it only need in pvp in close range combat trying to out maneuver other players. However, there are many other tactics that keep the target in the alpha strike zone, no matter how fast you want to run. Moreover, given the current stage of pvp... why even bother pvp? 90% of STO pvpers are sore losers. When they cant compete against certain tactics/build, they come to forum and cry NERF, and they wonder why no real pvpers want to pvp?
Anyway, whoever wanr to waste resources/times for useless stuff be my guest. All I say is hyperE is TRIBBLE in pve, and the undine rep set is also TRIBBLE, so are the rest of the undine stuff. My advice: use the resources to get fleet stuff instead.
Get fleet stuff instead? Are you mental? Fleet deflectors can't even hold a candle to the Undine deflector on most builds. Also, you probably haven't tested out the Enhanced Bio torp. Calling that puppy TRIBBLE is... silly. Furthermore, the 2-piece is rather nice for anyone running Phasers or Disruptors. That 7.5% boost is not a base damage boost. I think it boosts just about the same amount as a tac console.

So what you are telling us is that your ships are only "good enough" but not "the best???" Why settle for under-achiever designs when there are obviously superior gear options?

I run a vesta with the adapted MACO set. My engines... very low. They sit at 40 when not in combat. 57 in combat with plasmonic leech and 82 in combat with plasmonic and red matter cap. It's my only power not at 115 or higher.

In pve, I agree. Unless you are running a2b and have insanely high powerlevel, engine is likely the lowest of all. You'll likely have 125 weapons, and at least 100 shield. Then aux, and finally engine (usually sitting at 15base power level). What's the point of engine speed in pve anyway ? Need an extra speed boost to move away ? Use evasive. Otherwise it's tank and spank, and you can just park your ship near the enemy.
oh, and I should probably mention I treat my vesta like a SciScort. I do wish it moved faster though. I see people zipping by me all the time and it's a little frustrating. I admit I don't know much about engines. Seems like I should look into it. They're more important than I thought.
In STFs I do about 9-11k with pets. Usually first with CE even though sometimes it takes getting blown up 3-4 times to get it. I'd like to change that. More defense would definitely be good. I'm not really getting any bonuses from the adapted MACO engine because I've already maxed out my aux. only +0.25 for weps and +2.2 for shields. zero aux boost. That's not a whole lot. The only thing I'd really be loosing is the +30 defense boost from Mask Energy Field.

really? explain how someone who is not using fleet gear gets to +50 on all four stats 100% up time? or a Romulan for that matter?

actually I looked at that. no dice. the difference between the set bonus taking a tac slot away amkes Ap still the weapon of choice from a DPS point of view, based on the tooltip. and that was mk XI ap beams compared to MK XII biophasers
Couple of screenies between base and combat. I run all phasers with a 130 aux for the aux phasers and sci skills. I have the bio phaser turret replacing one of my fleet ones and the hydrodynamics console in an engi slot. I still have four spire mk XII phaser tac consoles. So the +7.5% phaser boost was in addition to everything else.

Well, so far I'm happy with the way it handles in the sphere and fluidic space. i have atmospheric flight training III and my impulse speed went from 145 to 178 so... I guess it's not too bad once you throw in the additional defense. I didn't need the adapted maco engines anyway. I still have two pieces to get me the tactical readiness buff.
