A slightly different discussion here, seeing as we're normally always talking about what we'd like to see added. What would people like to see removed from the game?

I would remove Free To Play and the related lockbox mechanic. I believe that STO would be more polished and have fewer bugs/issues if Cryptic wasn't always in high gear to push out the next lockbox and OPed ship to sell keys.

Before F2P we had nice things in the C-store. Different ship skins, emotes, bridge packs and other non-powercreep things. I remember them vowing that the C-store would only have cosmetic things. It'd not be use to sell 'pay to win' stuff.

If I could remove anything, it would be the Lobi Store.

The items offered would be better off in the C-Store. They could actually sell some of those items if they did.

I would remove the playable undine ships. To me they are like the borg in their bad guy status and how different their technology is. For similar reasons I would like the playable tholian ships gone as well. The other non-faction ships I can somewhat see a case for (my klink considers his breen raider a trophy from the war).

But I gave up on immersion a long time ago so my real list is:
Time gated missions, when I am done I should be done. I should not have to wait for an arbitrary clock to run down.
I would also revert the nukara hards to their pre-nukara rep goodness.
The voth dinosaurs, the voth are adamant that they are not earthlings so why the dinos? Just have us fight more and/or bigger mechs (I admit not paying attention to the whole story line up front).
I would also do away with lobi and merge that store into the c-store.
My carrier is more powerful than your gal-dread

    1) Free 2 Play - too many casuals or non-Trek types, player base was better when you had to pay
    2) Lockboxes/Lobi - wouldn't need either if this was still a subscription based game
    3) Crafting - It's pointless, and its a lot of effort. crafting should cost 0 dilithium
    4) Non-faction ships/consoles - Way too many 'stolen' ships flying around ESD and the likes
    5) Dinosaurs with frickin' laser beams on their heads
    6) Tovan Khev
    7) Sector space borders
    8) Bugs - all of them
    9) A2B/FAW madness
    10) Odyssey class - should have been the Galaxy Class IMHO
    11) self proclaimed 'goon fleets' and griefers in general (see #1)
    12) disco balls

    My 'dirty dozen'

I really don't have any problems, but I think it's funny that a lot of people think that the best thing they can do is essentially give the game back to Atari.

Why is it funny? Also, did a quick search and nobody mentioned the A-word until your post.

    • Killing by Fed players in most missions (defeated enemies should fall but not fade away or be vaporized, as though hit by a weapon on stun)
    • "Kurland here." (The audio clip, not Kurland himself.)
    • "Divide et Impera" mission
    • Mannheim console (from the Mobius Temporal Destroyer)
    • Tovan Khev (or at least let players get rid of him)
    • GPL
    • One-shot Borg lances in "Into The Hive"
    • Crafting (as it presently exists)

I'd remove the Galaxy Class and all its variants.

Purely because then Cryptic can sell an entirely new, gloriously OP ship with not horrific stats and wrap it in a Galaxy Class skin. :D

But they referenced it. To all your rose-colored individuals who said it was better before f2p, then I would say, you are wrong.

I would take away the present form of the lockbox.
I would take away all non-faction lockbox ships.

Another thing that came to mind as something I would remove, would be the thought process behind making the Galaxy-class, Defiant-class, and Intrepid-class...ships that should be balanced against one another. The idea that just because they were the Hero Ships of their respective shows, that they needed to be on an equal level.

This has created so many ludicrous arguments and also made for some of the most ludicrous action in the game if you step back to look at it.

Imagine if in TNG, if you followed the adventures of the crew of the USS Enterprise, a Defiant-class Escort. Lolwut? Yeah, that's what STO asks us to accept and do.

Imagine if in VOY, if you followed the adventures of the crew of the USS Voyager, a Defiant-class Escort. Lolwut? Yeah, are you getting the picture?

Imagine if DS9 had a Galaxy-class and Intrepid-class hanging around, where the ships were sent off to do little missions like were run in a Defiant-class, eh? Are you ready for some Excedrin from the /facepalm yet?

Imagine just how vastly different the game could have been...oh well...the game is what it is.

Well, the thread asks what we would remove. We are giving our opinions. If one can't deal with other people's opinions, don't go to internet message boards.

Get rid of f2p, kill the game, period. Wish some of you could just get that through your thick skulls.

I know, right? Amazing how many people want the entire game removed because it can't be all their way, all the time.

It went F2P to keep from dying- where were they with their money when the game was going broke and had to go F2P to even continue existing?

If they'd all volunteered to pay $150 a month rather than $15, all 250 of them could be in their little perfect, private, bug-free Trek Nirvana right now.

I guess there's a reason for the saying "talk is cheap," eh?

It went F2P to keep from dying...

That's often an odd assumption that doesn't always lend itself to the reality in all scenarios. Not necessarily saying that's case either way here, but many companies have simply seen they can make more money with a F2P model than a P2P model. It's not a case of being worried about the game dying...it's just about the profit margin and how much money can be made. F2P isn't just a measure taken when a game is dying - it's often how games are also born...

The voice over marine in Viscous Circle. 'Beeeeeeeeeeeaam over eeeeeeeeeeemmmforcements' Nails down a chalkboard sounds better.
Commander Koal's voice in charge of sphere ops. He sounds like a pervert.

    1. Remove ALL alien ships especially Undine.
    2. Remove in the easy Borg, Voth, and Undine villians. Add them back to their full power. Seriously! Full power Borg.
    3. Remove subpar Intrepid, Galaxy, Defiant, and Scimitar/Narenda class. Give them full 100% power.
    4. Remove all abilities that suppose to go to a ship. Then make it go to a ship.
    5. Limit the disco balls to social zones for example Club 47 and Fleet bases.
    6. Remove Lockboxes entirely

    Oh Yeah.
    1. Shon, Kurland, and Quinn needs to be removed permanently.
Quinn needs to resign like ASAP.
    2. Tovan too!

Yeah add Kurland to the list for that mission. Tovan never bothered me, (now I'm lvl 50 hes resigned to head cleaning duty unless I need cannon fodder in a ground mission.)

I think the reality could be scarier, though. The "give them full 100% power" bit suggests to me that what's really being requested is that the Scimitar get its loadout as listed onscreen. You know, the whole over-the-top "52 pulse disruptor cannons and 27 photon torpedo launchers" bit.

I think I would remove the STFs and all other forced-teaming content at end-game. The game cannot make up its mind if it is an MMO or SPG, so we might as well go with SPG and make it all soloable. :)
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

Lobi Crystal (Consortium) ... because even Harry Kim knows it's worthless ...

PS : If Garret Wang is doing VO he should totally do something on Drozana like "When I was Ensgin, this *** was worthless" :P

Lobi are essential to endgame ship builds. If you don't know this, you need to learn.
