Enough with the Disco Balls!

I know this topic is like beating a dead horse but seriously, enough already! I has taken me almost a full year to get to this point, but I'm sick and tired of the damn disco ball spamming. I like to play the game in a semi-serious way, by that I mean I wear a canon uniform, I don't jump around on consoles, and I don't spam people with freaking disco balls.
Apparently anytime someone sees a group of people (at the security officer on DS9 for example) it is an open invitation to spam them. I'm all for people having fun in the game, but this needs to be fixed. THE DISCO BALL SHOULD ONLY BE AVAILABLE FOR USE ON RISA AND DROZANA STATION.

Maybe you should avoid MMO titles if you are so affected by the human aspect.

Pretty much this. If something as innocuous as a disco ball or people jumping about in non-canon uniforms upsets you then you should probably stick to single player games.
It's not my fault if you feel trolled by my Disco ball... Sorry'boutit.

I still want my ice grenades back.

If the disco ball isn't trolling, then neither are my ice grenades.

I'm sure I'm going to get TRIBBLE for bringing up such an old gripe and I'm sure Cryptic isn't going to give two $hit$ about it, but for my own venting I needed to say something.

semi-serious? that means the other half is casual, and at what point to do you see casual?

I don't recall ever saying that I was affected by the human aspect nor did I say I was offending by people jumping around. I said that I don't do that. If I want to play a certain way what gives someone else the right to take that away from me. I might be doing something with a friend or a fleet member and I want my toon to be standing a certain way, then someone spams a disco ball which completely overrides my ability to do anything.

How about RPing somewhere else, where no one can just drop in ? It's not like people need a discoball to troll your virtual RPG game. :o

You realize that you've now given the argument as to why the disco balls should REMAIN in the game?

There was a big difference between ice grenades and disco balls.

Disco balls simply cause inactive toons and npc's in the area to dance. If someone doesn't want to be effected they can simply walk/beam away. It also has no effect on any terminals (bank, mail, ect...) and doesn't stop you from continuing on with your business while the disco goes on around you.

The ice grenades however rooted you to the ground, stopping you from moving, and sent you into red alert which stopped you from beaming out and canceled your interactions.

So no, disco balls are not trolling and yes, ice grenades were.

    Done.

I don't think canon is the issue. i think the issue is that some people just don't like em because they lack any sense of fun. It's like some players you get in events where everything has to be inch perfect all the time. The stf run has to be perfect every mission every time. You know the players they rag on any other player in the team that is an inch out of place or takes 0.0005 seconds too long to complete a task.

ice grenades cause those effects for about 2-3 seconds. so 2-3 seconds out of your life is too long is it..

You are missing the point. Disco balls don't interrupt you if you are doing something else. (rp excepted)

a rather absurd comment. as it is no different in real life as it is in a computer game, you want to dance around in a suicide mission without help from other teammates, its your head and dime and if you wont accept the fact you may need help sometimes then you may as well crawl under your bed and stay there because you dont get far without that extra help when it matters the most.

It doesn't matter if they put you in Red Alert or not, they can be disruptive to a player's experience. That said, disco balls are pretty much an official statement from Cryptic that they encourage trolling.

So, no, I don't see it changing.

I am eagerly awaiting Starfleet Dental's remake of this classic:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RrnT7RpQ9Lg

In the remake I would like to see more in-game locations - like the new ESD/DS9/Risa/Vulcan(seeing some of those Vulcan NPC's dancing to Disco Inferno - much better than Borg:eek::D:P)

That's quite the paradox, how could you nerf nerf when the nerf is nerfed. But how would the nerf be nerfed when the nerf is nerfed? This allows the nerf not to be nerfed since the nerf is nerfed? But if the nerf isn't nerfed, it could still nerf nerfs. But as soon as the nerf is nerfed, the nerf power is lost. So paradoxally it the nerf nerf lost its nerf, while it's still nerfed, which cannot be because the nerf was unable to nerf.

I call it, the Stoutes paradox.

Easy fix if you are getting annoyed by a disco ball spammer...

    Change instances

I've always felt they could restrict them from certain areas but that then creates a slippery slope argument so even as an RPer I'm willing to live with them.

The balloon guns are far more annoying to me really than seeing a few NPCs dancing... and I'll live with them to.

I guess we should have also said that every time there was is a thread about RP in Local, ERP, goldspammers, PVPers doing the daily without shields, or queued AFKers?

I don't do public RP or care at all about disco balls*. This logic is still dumb.

*If you want my opinion though, I thought they were funny the first time. The first time. As in once. The only thing gamers abuse more than dead horses is dead jokes. I don't even know why I am putting this here, because I know you're only going to respond with hi-larious memes from five years ago or Monty Python and the Holy Grail quotes, but at least it's off my chest. :P
