The recall mode for fighters used to just bring them back to fly behind your ship. A recent update (not sure how recent, as it was a surprise to me when I came back to the game and I havent been on since before LOR launched) changed that so recall mode docks and repairs your fighters.
One of the flight deck duty officer types has the following bonus:
"Increases carrier defense by X% while fighters are in recall mode."
After doing some testing, I've found that the bonus defense is only applied if you click recall mode and your fighters -do not- dock with your ship. As soon as your squadrons dock, you lose the defense bonus.
Presumably, this bug is caused because the flight deck officer coding was designed for the old recall system, and when the system was changed the officer was not.
This, essentially, makes a very expensive flight deck officer (half a million credits, in my case) useless, because you're not getting the bonus you're supposed to from the active trait.
... because it's still true. Since Recall is now functionally Dock, the Recall variant Flight Deck Officer defense bonus is only active during the brief period when they are returning to the carrier.
It makes sense logically since a docked fighter can't help protect the carrier but it would be nice if the DO were changed to something useful for those of us who invested in acquiring them. Something like a short fighter speed/defense bonus upon launch would be interesting (catapult launcher variant).
