Welcome to the club! Please enjoy the inaudible groan amongst your PUG teammates as you enter an STF. Then enjoy the satisfaction as you more than hold your own. Imagine their surprised looks as you blast away at your helpless Gravity Welled targets. Please be sure to work on your amused cackle. We won't judge.

It's an exclusive club in STO... welcome from a former member!

Also, keep your defense value high... it makes it more fun!

Former Member? There is no such thing.
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.

I saw a couple of posts from people who liked the nova class–they really, really liked the nova. I had it when leveling and liked it quite a bit, but my fleet's shipyard is nowhere near getting the fleet nova, so I forgot about it. Until, that is, the mirror variant came out, which I picked up for cheap on the exchange a couple of days ago. I wasn't sure what to expect.

In short, this tiny little ship is amazing. I love it. It's the fastest sci ship I've ever flown. It's a ton of fun to fly around like some sort of psychotic little gremlin and blast things–right now I'm flying a plasma torp set up (omega + romulan) and a plasma DBB + proton and kinetic beam in the back (and romulan plasma beam). I cobbled this together from whatever gear I had laying around, I'm going to switch to all AP once I get the experimental proton weapon to utilize the obelisk 10% damage bonus. Despite the fact my build is pretty wonky right now, this thing MURDERS for its size. I haven't taken it on any eSTFs yet because of the incompleteness of it, but still, I can tell that once it's tuned up it should be more than capable of handling itself (it does just fine in Kerrat).

TL;DR: Novas are great. If you're looking for a change of pace, pick one up on the exchange for super cheap (~120,000 last I checked). Nothing's more fun than flying around like a madman in a tiny murder wagon, setting everything on fire in the process.

I too have joined this club!

I nabbed the MU version and MAN... I was and still am IMPRESSED with this ship.

I can shield tank and heal my team mates with no problems. I almost did a whole lane in UAE by myself.

Highly recommend for anyone to try this BEAST of a ship out.

It's a tough little ship to paraphrase a certain scene from First Contact although that comment was directed at another class. :P

The only drawback is that it cannot use DHC, but since it's nimble enough for DBB that is minor.
Tank builds, healer, burn build, Crowd Control, Bomber (transphasic, Trico, photon or mixed), stealth sniffer and so forth. There are a lot of options.

In Kerrat i noticed one of these Undine ships flying around while i was hunting using MES.
"Decloacked", immobilized him (or her) and bye bye undine ship after the torpedo barrage.

Edit: I wonder how long it'll be before reyan01 shows up. :P

i honestly came to respect this ship, well the fleet version, it still is a poor man's wells, but yes, definately among the better sci vessels out there.

I've never done a single cannon build before. I might have to give it a shot.

Single cannons are definitely fun on it! I used AP single cannons and turrets along with Disruptor cannons & turrets.

I'll admit that i have done this as well. It's fun to use, but with the Nova's high turn rate i feel it is better suited for high impact weapons such as DBB or torpedo builds.

Mwahahahaha. Thats all I got to say about the nova with photon torpedoes. I put the gravitorp along with some bio-molecular torps and speced into torp crit. HOLY! I put the multi energy relay in there for some all rounder dmg boost, and the hydrodynamic compensator for the turn rate, its sweet!
I like to GW, then Torp spread then close in and push the ships tring to get away from my GW with a photonic shockwave. At this point most stuff is dying, so when I unleash my second torp spread from the aft ALL IS LAID TO WASTE!. MWAHAHAHA.
Yes crazy nova club, once you join it you'll never be the sane!

Too late - I've, predictably, already said a fair bit in this thread :P

Not to nitpick, but i made that comment before 2-3 topics were merged. :P

Has anyone tried the nova with the undine set yet?

I'm kind of curious if these two are compatible.

I have the fleet Nova on one of my scientists with a not so up-to-date anymore plasma build. But at the time I got her I was very pleased with the lil' ship. Since then some time has passed and I plan to get all 3 Novas for my new scientist, the mirror version, the fleet and the non-fleet versions. And according to their LtC. they'll be called the Golden Nova, the Blue Nova and the Red Nova. I'll try to have their weapons and equipment appropriate to those colours, eg. a tetryon build on the blue one or a AP/Grav torp build on the red one.

I actually went nuts and put all Voth/undine anti proton on my nova for the hell of it. Nasty little bugger with beams. Though I think I will strip them off and roll to more a couple of 360 arrays(once I get borg cutting beam) and roll with mostly torps and mines.

My tac main flies the Nova retrofit, what a fun little ship.

Grav well 1 in lt cmd sci and grav well 2 in cmd sci, two copies of hazzard emitters, sci team 1 and transfer shield strength ftw. I even have photonic officer on to reduce cooldowns.

Tac is a bit limited on the retro, so I've gone with tac team 1, bfaw 2 for lt tac, with a high yield 1 for ensign tac.

Engineering is engineering team 1 and emergency power to shields.

Armament is 2 voth antiproton dbbs and the rommie torp up front with the omni ap beam, gravimetric torp and cutting beam aft.

overall, my crazy little nova makes a very good light science/frigate type ship

And I called her the USS Equinox for the lolz

      This is my build: http://skillplanner.stoacademy.com/?build=isshyperion_4557

Currently experimenting with a full science captain build as all of my prior characters are engies running cruisers and escorts. I tried a torp boat DSD and that was not fun.

I would appreciate any changes. Also I prefer to use phasers for RP reasons.

How far along are you in your Omega and Undine rep systems?

I am thinking the Adapted MACO Engines & Shields plus the 8472 Deflector on the Nova would be insanely fun.

      Plus the Plasmonic Leech...

      Undine at Tier 2
      everything else at Tier 3

I thought the Solanae set is good for science powers. I use maco for my other characters so I thought I'd change things up a bit.

Adapted MACO is great for carriers/sci ships as well: I run the tac Vesta with the 3 pcs set but I will change the Deflector when I hit T5 Undine soon.

My Fed tac & sci also run the 2 pcs Adapted MACO on the tac Vesta with currently the Solanae deflector until they have access to the Undine one.
