HAHA! I love it, now scientist have the answer to what many of us know already. Who is really behind the female avatar in each MMO out there. Love it love it. :D:D:D

BTW where is the study on how many ladies play as male avatars in MMORPGs? lol

Mhm. I have make and female characters in sto as well as other games.
And playing my female characters I do not behave one but differently then while playing my male character.
Outside of rp obviously, but in rp every one if my characters behaves differently....

I mostly make male characters but I also make female ones from time to time just for a change.

i still play each characters exactly the same but i never roleplay. if i did all my female characters would still act like my male ones. i would not go to any great lengths to get mine to act any differently.

I have mostly male characters but a few females. When not in RP, I act like my normal self regardless of what character I am on. Of course, when RPing, I act out the personality I created for that character in my story.

I wonder why girls don't bunny-hop, according to the article? Maybe they are less likely to play FPS? I have read most FPS players learn to bunny hop to make it harder for the enemy team to score a headshot on you. After a while they just start doing it out of habit in every game they play.

I find it offensive that the article is readily willing to call men out for being sexist for wanting women a certain way when a lot of women want men to be a certain way as well. It seems like the entire article was dedicated to just that one point. Double standards ftl. <.<

what is this silly argument about, both men and women have what the other want, if strongly attracted to each other it results in new humans to continue the same cycle. men cant help but look and want and neither can women, natural sexual attraction. semantics or not, its the way it is and has been like this since we humans have been hitting each other on the heads with spiked large bits or wood, later swords, then arrows then guns and then rifles. we humans are also a mass of hypocrisy, so nothing new there.

maybe poor ursus is mistaking anatomical differences and results in the word "breasticles"?.

Yes, they do have what the other wants... for the most part. But they don't usually have what the other considers "ideal". What each person considers ideal comes out in artistic expression, such as character creation.

That article is pretty sexist towards men, and the author seems more interested in being humorous than in reporting what the journal article says. Here is a link to the actual journal article.

You can read the abstract for free, but you have to pay in order to read the full text.

paying to read some text? get real! and the worst bit, its just an opinion of someone and your paying them money for their bile on a website? that exactly like feeding a troll exactly what it wants.

havent you figured it out yet? 'real women' push back against social expectations while 'real men' strive to conform to them.

what is "real" exactly. i mean humans are not pure, as genetic testing shows that ancient humanoids of various species propagated and ended up with homo-sapiens. and a "real" woman is what exactly? the most arrogant, cold, dismissive person you will find who does nothing but report you all the time and really get on your nerves because she consistently quotes rules, on top of the fact she doesnt look nice to the eye in any area? or your stereotypical blonde haired girl, big chest no brains?

and what is a "real" man? some meat chunk lifting weights with good looks and well endowed, but yet has no real personality and just puts you to sleep in bed? i mean, its like trying to describe a taste like juicy, how can you describe juicy tasting and in what context?

you havent had it beaten into you enough times?

'real women' are independent and take pride in running against the expectation of society at large. they celebrate being real by doing and being exactly what they want to be.
real women 'have curves'. real women 'dont need a man'. real women arent glamorous.

the 'real man' on the other hand, is compliant. he celebrates 'being real' by doing his best to ensure that he is meeting all the expectations of those around him, rather than doing and being what he wants.
real men cry. real men pay child support. real men will never hit a woman. real men etc etc.

just think about the context in which 'real women' and in particular 'real men' are used in everyday conversations.

a real woman can admit to playing video games in her down-time.
a real man would work overtime because he loves his family.

    see how it works?

Yeah... It's like the "No TRUE Scotsman" fallacy.... the phrase "real woman" or "real man" means whatever the person using it wants it to mean.

"...the 23% of men playing as female characters": that number sounds low. I take it the article only studied men who were trying to fool others online? I ask because I've known a number of gamers, myself included, who will create a female character, but make no attempt to hide who they are. Sometimes, in the character backstory or description text they'll actually put "Gamer is a guy" or something like that.

I don't see the harm really; no-one is hurt by a bloke playing a woman RPG character.

However, if said bloke tried squeezing into a white Seven of Nine catsuit in real life......

Uggh... thanks, now I need brain bleach again..
