the OP could be either stupid, trolling or is a kid.Since I don't know if he is stupid or trolling I can assume the OP is a kid who can't deal with people outside his "safe circle" .I know you kids want to ban everyone who you dont like but bad luck kids ...now go back play call of duty.
I don't think little raging kids like you who can't use the ignore function should be allowed to get in online games.

No, I'm not trolling. If you've seen me around here, I have never "trolled" either on the forums or in the game. Sure, I argue passionately (Snoggy knows this, as well as the people in the Galaxy threadnought), but that is fundamentally different than trolling. In fact, it could be supposed that you yourself are trolling here; but I'm not looking to start a back and forth about that. Instead, I'm just here to send a message to CaptainSmirk and the rest of the STO gang.

A lot of people have said "just use the ignore button, you [insert your favourite expletive here]". Yes, I could do that. But I run the risk of encountering that person in teamed events, such as STFs or PvP. If I run into them in, say, 5v5 teamed PvP, I won't be able to see critical information like who to target, that he's the target caller, that he needs heals to survive, he calls a target for subnuc'ing, etc etc etc. The whole team mechanic breaks down when you have one person on your team blocking another. I use extreme restraint when using the ignore feature - it's great, but it has some serious drawbacks.

I can deal with people, tyvm. Ideally though, I'd like to play with people who don't break the ToS by throwing insults, threats, harassment, and more. It degrades the gaming experience for not only myself, but everyone else who has to watch the conversation in the lower-left hand side of the screen. And although I do expect it to happen occasionally, I don't expect it to happen as often as it does... which makes me question whether the GMs are really doing their job, or sipping coffee and checking into zone chat only once every 8-hour shift.

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but isn't there a mechanic in place that prevents players from being teamed with people they've put on their ignore list?

I don't have much problem with trollers in chat because I only talk with fleet members or other players in my selected chat channels.

I turn zone chat off for the most part and when I do turn it on I don't let myself be baited in to wasting time arguing over something pointless.

I know we've been telling them to add that feature (as an alternative to a vote kick system for AFKers), but I don't think they ever have.

Ah, hate to break it to you, but Trendy is in my pocket, metaphorically speaking.

I gave her Ferenginar as her private pleasure planet and gave her and Mrs. Trendy a 15,000-room, 30,000,000 square-foot pleasure palace with two pools, six hot tubs, and a holodeck.

If there is, either it was implemented recently, or it isn't working. I know for a fact I was assigned someone who was on my ignore list, and me on his. It was a headache.

This is exactly why people never have their chat boxes open, and thus aren't able to listen to instructions depending on the location (in battlezones, people often tell others to shoot medics, for example, because it prevents failure of one of the zones - but most people don't, probably in part to their chat boxes closed or not on Zone).

Turning off zone is NOT the solution, it's avoiding the problem.
It also has nothing to do with "being a baby" when someone is breaking the Terms of Service and gets away scot-free.

    Yeah, you NEED chat open.

I had an IGE run one time, with a guy in an EV suit who kept Leeroying everything and didn't respond to anything. Annoying as hell, we all ended up beaming out.

Does STO even have GM's anymore?

Many GMs died so Tuvok could live. Their sacrifice will not be forgotten.

Now, what were we talking about?

Yes in fact it is a solution. And very effective.

There's nothing stopping you from organizing an event and using a privately created chat channel to communicate in. Anyone starts trolling the channel you boot him out on his butt.

If people aren't willing to join the channel then they wouldn't listen to instructions anyway.
That works for teamed events where the team can be picked beforehand. Other areas, such as battlezones, invasion zones and such, I suppose a private channel would alleviate most of the chat related issues. However, and this is only based on second hand info found on these Forums, players could potentially invite themselves back into chat channels after being booted. Of course, I don't know this for fact, but it's a haunting possibility. It also wouldn't solve issues of trolling and other aggravation in areas outside of the chat box. (ie, blocking doors, intentionally failing areas, the list goes on).

It's a good idea, but it doesn't cover everything, nor does it address the whole "players breaking the ToS and not paying the penalty" aspect either. I, for one, would be eager to help start a channel for areas, like the Voth and Undine battlezones, where players can find teams and work together to farm the area for Dyson marks and Dil.
It's up to the GM's to decide what's breaking the TOS, more often than not in every game not just here the GM's disagree with the person making the complaint and they squash the petition.
In certain cases that would be true, it would be either-or. In other cases, offenders clearly violate the ToS. In both however, the GMs aren't around to either stop the conversation or apply penalties.

For some people, their only ambition each day is to TRIBBLE someone off. If you let them bother you, then you make their day enjoyable. Personally, I ignore people like them. I play STO for fun, not to please players like them.

For that reason, I don't use local, or zone chat anymore, unless I need to for some reason. I have the "tell", team, and my fleet's chat as well as other non-public chats open. This eliminates the people that try to ruin my day from doing so. They cannot be enjoyable to speak with, therefore they are of no interest to me.

So while the ethos of the national socialists was deplorable. I'd have to agree with that random dude. They did dress pretty snazily.

    ...perhaps.

The point, though, is that the guy said that he admired the TRIBBLE. And then added the qualifiers and caveats in another comment that nobody actually saw because they were so horrified.

It's a little beside the point, though.
