Launcher auto-updater

So we have another launcher update... and of course the auto-updater doesn't conform to the patching options as set in the launcher so I can't patch it, which annoyingly means no STO.

I've done a series of network tests and guess where the problem seems to be (I should imagine those in Europe have seen this as well), none other than Cogentco who have made playing STO difficult since before Christmas last year, and a flick through the PWE support forums shows they've been making STO difficult to play since 2012, maybe earlier...

Could somebody please look into why they are causing a 100% packet loss (and thus making patching impossible) and nag them until they fix it?

    Got the same problem. Was playing all night long and then when i tried to log in today the Launcher won't update. just keeps trying to connect.

    Is there a work around or something. Not my internet as all the other games i play online work e.g. GW2


    Never mind. Mine just fixed itself. Dont ask me how though

    So I come back at midnight (as mentioned previously as the one time it works) and it works.

    Still not happy though, very good way to stop playing.

    My launcher has been sitting there trying to autoupdate and failing since yesterday as well. Annoying as I was able to get on the first day season 9 went live, but not since.

    Try patching at midnight (BST) or just leave it overnight, it should get through it.

    Ugh, not the thing where it works at midnight on the dot. That was irksome last time, I was hoping it wouldn't come back. Hopefully it'll fix itself quicker than the month it took last time.

    tried it just after midnight. It's updated and now I'm waiting for the game to patch. Looks like only gonna be a short gaming session tonight.

    Omg, so happy to hear I'm not the only one. I'm sorry it's happening to others too but at least I know it's not me or my computer now.

    Mines been downloading the same 21MB over and over for the past 24 hours now. Musta DLed a Gigs worth of data just for this stupid launcher update. I could understand if it was the game patch but it's not, it's just the sodding launcher. All i need is the damn ENGAGE button. Couldn't give a flying **** about new adverts they want to show me for stuff I can quite easily look for if I want it.

    Anyway, just had a vent a little of my frustration :P I'll try that update (Thankyou) and cross my fingers. Good luck to all :D

    Son of a *****! 2 bloody hours for yesterday and todays patch, only to then get a Error 36 on continuous loop.

    Ahh, that's easy enough to fix (if a little tedious) find your installation folder and open the properties for each and every file and just make sure the "Read only" box isn't ticked, that should fix it.

    Ok had this problem myself today, found a way around it. Instead of using arc go into your perfectworld folder and boot up startrek.exe manually, enable force verify and disable patch on-demand. Once the verify is done it should start patching properly. Afterwords just close the launcher, and restart arc. As far as I can tell its the on-demand patch option that's causing the launcher issues.


    Also, not sure if you will need to or not but I had to reboot my rig afterwards before the Client would fully load.

    Did you find a way through it? I've tried adamkafei's suggestion but for some reason my Win 8 system simply refuses to keep the files\folders as not "read only", even doing it as administrator. :confused:

    EDIT:

    Just found this on the oficial ARC support center (see for yourself and beleive it!):

    "Why am I getting the message "Error 36"?
    You will receive the error message, "Error 36", when you need to patch the game. This will update your game to the version currently running on the servers and allow you to log in.

    Please open the game through the game launcher to begin the patching process.    "

    Don't know what to think, the launcher loop under Error 36 doesn't make sense for me.

    I uninstalled sto, reinstalled it with arc, sat through the full patch update again, and on the launcher options, selected US proxy for both servers, disabled patching on demand and enabled quick launch. Suffered a major crash on the client, tried to boot it up and performed a force verify on the game files. Been in game for quite a few hours now with no problems.


    and yes, even before midnight. I don't know what part of all that fixed it, but that's what I did. I did not try changing any read only selections in the game files themselves.

    After unistalling ARC and STO, rebooting, reinstalling, rebooting again, I'm back to the game, finally!:D
