Have not seen any local chat for around a year

Like the subject says. I can't see anyone else chatting in public channels. And yes, I've double and triple and quadruple checked to make sure that I have the appropriate channels active in the relevant tabs.

Even in ESD, I see nothing but dead silence. Honestly, it's been nice for a long time - no trade spam, no arguments about politics, no puns about "Gorn." But as more informal-grouping adventure zones come online, I expect it will become more and more of a hindrance.

At one point, I joined the Red Alert channel. I could see some people posting, but not others - I'd see responses to posts by others that I couldn't see. But eventually that channel fell completely silent as well.

I've no idea why. The only possible thing that's occurred to me is the length of my "ignore" list, which got quite long during a brief stint in Neverwinter (trade spam in the early months was awful). I've tried removing some just to cover all bases, but I've seen no effect from doing so.

well....YOU could be on lots of ignore lists...but that isn't all that likely...is it?

I suppose I can't discount it altogether. :) But I barely ever said anything, so I'd guess no.

Also you said local. Which is only the chat for people on the same map as you. Is it the same for zone?

Doh! I'm sorry, I used the wrong word.

By "local" I meant "zone chat," not people in my area/instance. I don't see any conversation at all, anywhere in the game.

hmmm I have never heard of or seen anything similar, but then i usually have zone and local turned off.

I'd submit a bug report. And consider joining one of the many public channels for teaming.

Had the same problem some time ago. This is what fixed it:

In the privacy settings ("Social" window, first tab, bottom right), just switched everything to on and then off again. Also switched to the "Anonymous" setting and then back to "Visible to All".

I tried fiddling with the privacy settings for a while on DS9. No dice. :(

Wrong... your system gets modify after a while after not seeing "Zone" chat.... when this happens, the Zone chat turns only to show Fleet and Friends... you can easily fix this problem by typing the following command in your chat:

    /Whitelist_Chat 0

    This is also true for the following;

    Mail:
    /Whitelist_Emails 0

    Tell:
    /Whitelist_Tells 0

    0 ~ Off, 1 ~ On

Here is quick description of what this commands do:

~ Toggles the whitelist for all chat. If enabled (1), you will only receive messages from friends, SG members, and Team members

I never see any local chat either, but I don't think is a glitch as much as its just people being anti-social.. lol

This worked for me! For the first time in ages, I see people talking. :)

    Thank you, generalmoco!

Of course, the first thing I saw was someone arguing that the speed of light could be broken because he broke the speed limit while driving "all the time." But hey, ESD, right?

But the real question is why do you want to see local. Just like Zone chat on ESD or DS9, you are better to simply leave Local and Zone permanently disabled. Trust me. You are not missing anything.

the above definitely lends credence to that first statement

Indeed. Do yourself a favour, and leave Local and Zone disabled.

Because it's an MMO. If I wanted to play all by myself I would play an Offline game. The MMO is designed for meeting people, Networking, and playing together... lol

I am more than glad I was able to help... :)
