game freezes up for the first minute after loading

When I log into STO and get to to where I normally would start to play it drops to 1fps and becomes unresponsive. It does it when I am in space and on the ground, it only happens the first time I start the game, after that If I log off or switch characters it does not occur.

    I may be having a similar problem. Not only does the game freeze but it locks up my pc. I have to hold down the power button and do a cold boot.

    This happens sporadically when I first start playing. It may crash 1-3 times before I can play with no problems.

    Not sure what I can do to troubleshoot and do a process of elimination to find the problem. I only know this did not happen to me prior to Season 8 and it happens the same way on 2 different pc's I have that have been running STO fine since Open Beta.

    Any suggestions?

    First I thought it was fixed when I started playing, then I realized it was just postponed by a minute. Will this problem ever be solved?

    I found a solution and posted it here: http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showpost.php?p=16004011&postcount=30

    I am assuming you are all using the Steam version of STO. if so, I think there is something wrong with that version. because when I followed the steps I posted, the problem went away completely. it may not be a favorable workaround, but at least I can play immediately after toon selection, instaed of waiting 3 - 5 minutes for the game to unfreeze.

    I had not Steam, but Arc, and I had this first minutes freeze problem.
    But now the freeze has disappeared, I don't know why. The sole change I made is making my internet compatible with my netbook..
    Maybe PWorld just changed their server..
