New shuttle bay

So I would like to start by saying the shuttle bay is a thing of Beauty ! Now down to the discussion I'd like to start.
I hear that the floor and shuttle access will be closed off and limited to the balcony overlooking the bay. Personally I think this to put it Bluntly SUCKS and is a bad Idea ! Why not allow us a different way to leave the Star base with the ability to take a shuttle to a new destination such as our ship or the academy. I think it would be great to have a cut scene with us getting into the shuttle and seeing it take us to either destination. I am no programmer nor do I pretend to know what it takes to do what you do but from a player stand point ( one that has been here from the start) I am tired of the transporter being the only way off of E.S.D. .
Can it be that much to at least put in such a thing even if the scene starts at the balcony ?

    Several issues with this:

    1) The Shuttlebay was designed from the start be a vista, aka an area to make ESD seem larger than it is.

    2) It was designed as such and as someone who has walked around in it, it would be very immersion breaking to see my head clipped into by a Runabout.

    3) A cutscene like you describe would (a) get old very fast and you know it, and (b) the shuttles dont have opening doors so how would your character get into one?

    4) It would be an enormous waste of their time to expand further. The environment team isn't building all of ESD, and if he makes one vista accessable, he has to build another to keep the effect up and then people will want access to that one too. See the problem?

    5) If they do add functionality it will probably an invisible volume that says "take shuttle to Academy." Its quick, easy and doesn't waste the developers time.

    6) I know people want to explore areas, its part of our instincts both as humans and trek fans. But games aren't like the real world: someone has to build all this for us to explore. And asking "I want more, sir" when they've got other projects to work on isn't fair to them. I'm positive the team hasn't slept much in days based on how much work has been done. Please give the team some respect by not calling their plans "stupid."

    Your points are well taken, I never meant to say what they are and have done so far is stupid in any way shape or form. I just think that even if it was just a pop-up that said take shuttle would be better than nothing and as far as walking the floor, well they already have it in and yes it is huge that does not mean they need to cut the entire floor off to us they could add a shield right before the first runway so that we do not walk in front of or under the shuttles going by. I am just saying The area is in already give it some use other than visual. To your point that it will get old fast sure just like when docking into E.S.D. from Sol system got old but they still have that in game and why because I am sure there are people that still like to dock in that way. So whether you or I think it would get old fast does not really matter , The game is meant to appeal to everyone not just you or I, so again what would it hurt?
    To your point of cutting the Devs a break for they have not slept working hard on all the new stuff ...well that's there jobs, and I don't mean to sound rude but it is and I am sure they get paid damn well for doing it. For the most part They do a Great job and I am not saying they don't this is a simple request and if it happens great and if not oh well, never hurts to ask.

    the shuttles are way to small it would have to be scaled up quite a bit to actually work wile it's cool to walk around there now i do not think it would be a great idea when it comes to holo


    this will jut be something us old timers can talk about like when we jumped into our singularity cores during the LoR testing

    my toon is set to my real world hight of 5'6" and i am larger then what would comfortably fit in a danube. remember they where walking around in side of them with enough room to have 2 people sit side by side

    the current danube ground model is how large the type 8 model should be then up size the danube based on that

    Very nice new shuttle bay, i hope they will put something useful in there as well.
    And i really hope they will seal those walls, i mean it is fun to jump to open space just once :P

    Haha, first thing I did after jumping down there was getting out my TNG manual and looking up the shuttle sizes :)

    If the Type 8's are the same size as the Type 6's they look so much like, they're only 6 meters long, and this fits with the game model. Maybe we think they're bigger because the interior sets used in the show weren't necessarily scaled right.

    Shuttles are small. People likewise forget that runabouts are pretty big.

    But can I just say that while I love the new ESD shuttlebay... I'd also love a shuttle bay on my ship.

    IMO, limiting player's to the balcony serves only to tease player's in a Star Trek setting. Which serves no purpose.

    What I prefer is that we can visit the first section. Where the first group of shuttles are parked. A border on just our side of the flying shuttles passing in and out is perfectly sensible. Stepping on any active runway is foolish in any circumstance. We really don't need to visit beyond as it is almost duplicated (save for a Danube parked here and there) from one bay to the next.

    I could easily see Foundry author's making use of that section. By attaching something to any of the crates for search and find step. Or for need to start a mission on one of the Type 8 or Yellowstone Runabouts. Click the ship to start a mission which places characters aboard a shuttle interior.

    I tried to get a new (2409) shuttle for this update, but the Ship team had their hands full already. :/

    Well if they ever get around to it, remind them the Type-8 had a safety rating equal to a Redshirt standing next to the senior staff on an away mission.

    I think it would have been nice to at least access the first area of shuttles past the observation area. This is before the runway and it would still leave the "vista" in place on the distant areas solving that problem. Even if at this point the shuttles don't go anywhere, I would like to see them hooked up like the Vulcan mission to click and interact dialog and enter the shuttle and fly to Utopia Planetia or other Sol system destinations. I also think it would be nice to have a fleet unlock project so you can take it to the fleet starbase. I don't think we should be able to roam the whole shuttle bay aimlessly in the path of landing shuttlecraft and their runways. If not now at least be on the drawing board for the near future.

    Aside from all this... Taco you and your fellow artists have done a fabulous job on everything I've scene this far. You have really pushed the bar on the quality and craftsmanship on the new maps this time. It's been great to watch the game evolve over the years and see the content really mature into a thing of beauty.

    I thought the same thing running around it last night... just far enough in to get to a shuttlecraft, but not far enough in to get hit in the head. Too bad the game doesn't have a way to make the brig-like shield spark when you bump into it.

    I understand this (because of people always wanting more), but what about just letting people go up to the first runway, you have the excuse to not let them go further because it's dangerous, and in return we get to get a closer look at the lovely shuttle bay, with a small bit of RP potential if people want.

    That cargo lift thing could be made to work or the first set of turbolifts hooked up to return you to the main level.

    I think it would be nice if they added at least one little area where we could get up close and personal with the shuttles. Generally it makes places seem more real if you can interact with them rather than observe them from a distance.

    Thanks for trying. Hope their current projects go well enough that they could have some extra time available to do this. But I understand if this wouldn't happen for a long time.

    This is generally what happens with a military (or semi-military) organization; they phase new models in as things become outdated. If they didn't update from time to time, they'd be risking unnecessary casualties as things wear down and enemy tech improves.

    I do like that the new shuttle bay helps ESD feel bigger, and I hope there are other things in the works to do the same.

    Instead of being able to go onto the first pad, I'd rather see a turbo lift link to one of the middke repair bays, just as a spot to go out amongst the parked shuttles, but keep the runways blocked off for obvious reasons.

    No if they are going to block it off then they should stay to their current plan.
    That said, I do think that given that they were planning to close this off as a viewable area only from the start, the viewing platform being open and so close to the shuttle deck level was probably not a good idea. I'll add to this the fact that the entire ESD concourse is relying solely on the shuttle containment fields to maintain atmospheric integrity. A multiple power failure, invasion by an omnipotent waterheater looking to talk to humpback whales, what have you and the entire area's air will vent right out through that archway and those bay openings into space.
    A glass enclosed platform with possibly a sealed airlock into the space would reenforce visually the impression that the space is not meant for pedestrian traffic, it would also restore a redundant system of atmospheric containment.

    Lore wise, Shuttle craft are not automobiles, they may use antigravity for lift but they also use high energy plasma for thrust and maneuvering, people would get cooked being anywhere near those things when they are in operation, a space getting as much traffic as the shuttle bay does, with shuttles of various sizes flitting through there regularly, is not somewhere you would want anyone wandering around, unless you enjoy watching people running around on fire screaming.

    This is feedback, but it's not critique.

    I was delighted to find, after patching Tribble, that the shuttlebay was accessible. After wandering in it, it imeediately felt like it was meant to be cut off sometime in the future...

    But I enjoyed being able to explore it.

    At some point, my goal became to figure out a way to actually stand on the Vesta-class starship. Past the shuttle egress with forcefields, there are others shuttlebays without them, and diagonal superstructure pylons that go up and up and up. I tried getting to pylons that might allow to jump down to the Vesta, but the ones accessible come short. There's one that seems to get closer, but it's blocked off midway. I've been trying to actually access the pylon under it with fancy jumping/footwork, but so far my best jumps have come a couple of meters short.

    I must have kept at it for at least 2 hours. Even if it was just Earth Space Dock, it was someplace new and I was going boldly where I had never explored before. It was fun. I kind of wish I could've actually pulled it off, though I've been suspecting that even if I did, the game might not actually consider the Vesta a solid object, and I would've just fallen through it even on a successful jump.

    would love to see one or two airtrams in the shuttle bay with diplomats of all kinds near them . this would be perfect since the ESD is the main hub of starfleet

    I could be mistaken, but I thought those Air Trams only traveled between Air Tram stations on the Earth itself. I don't think they were spacecraft at all.

    I like the new shuttle bay...but how come no delta flyer or Peregrine Attack Fighters in the bay?
