The complaints clearly started around 4 1/2 hours ago going by the forum posts... My own attempts to connect started about 2 1/2 hours ago.
It's gone between unable to update launcher to unable to connect to login server and back a couple times in the period I been trying to connect but the simple fact is that parts of the STO network are either not functioning properly, are not being routed to properly, or are just flat out broken right now.
And this is clearly going for a new record on how long Cryptic and Perfect World ignore connectivity issues before they start trying to fix them, as the complaints and new threads about the issue continue to pile up and bury anything of any other subject into archival oblivion and yet there is no feedback from the officials on the matter which leads me to believe they are once again in denial that there are any problems at all.
And no, I'm not sending trace and ping data because that's not the problem... I can get to your network fine, which makes the problem within your network.
Yes, I was just going to update my post with the fact that the whole situation just changed in a way they probably won't be able to ignore, because now the servers are actually showing as DOWN.
Same here. Normally I wouldn't mind much, technical glitch and all, but I was to finish my Romulan Rep today and I reeeeeeeeeeeeeeally want my Scorpions. The wait is tearing me up T.T

Well, while I don't think Cryptic has had that much serious downtime in awhile now. I do think they need to extend the events by 1 day.
Not sure the hate is well deserved at this point. Like I said, Cryptic's been enjoying a pretty damn good streak with major server stability. Granted they've had lesser issues with lag and connectivity drops from time to time. But no major downtime in awhile that I can recall.
While I largely agree that stability of the game has been much better since I started playing again in the middle of January, they deserve all the suspicion they are getting since they were overseeing a game that was so unstable for months last year that it was not playable. In fact, even though Star Trek itself is my favorite franchise and therefore this game gets some sentimental bias from me based on that alone, I very nearly gave up on this game simply because I couldn't reliably play it.
I haven't seen them post anything on the forums, but according to twitter it seems that they think it is a hardware failure. Sadly not much to be done in short order about that.
Hope they fix the ground bases where the door doesn't open. To fix that I had to beam back to my ship then beam back down and to my surprise ta da the door was open.
I reported that this has been happening for months now, it go so bad 2 weeks ago I just couldn't play at all. I posed about it and all I got was snide remarks from US lifetime subs about them having no problems so in their eyes there wasn't a problem.
A good friend and fleetmate contacted tech support because every time he changes characters/beams down it dc's him it's only been happening since last years season 7 patch, tech support went through the usual and proved to my friend who is a system administrator himself that they possess no technical expertise whatsoever and if it's not on the checklist, then it doesn't exist.
C'mon Cryptic get someone from your staff to comment on here, people are getting really upset by the lack of communication/responses to posts, other than by moderators.
Just what is the issue here? Would be nice if they would start a thread or something with updates as to what is happening. Did somebody spill coffee on the server or something?

Well, according to the launcher it's a hardware problem. Which means they need to change stuff over. Hours, it's gonna take hours.
If a server died, that's longer then hours.
If it's electrical based within the building, that's longer then days if they need to rewire stuff. Which means getting permits, etc.
If someone nuked Cryptic Studios server area. Then why didnt someone direct them to Korea and NCSoft?
There is a 172 page thread under General Discussion about the outage with remarks about status. They did say the mirror event would be extended to compensate for the down time.
Because the answer is simple ...NEVERWINTER is overloading the servers cause both games are on it last i herd ...1 server 2 or more games on the same server ..do the math.:P
The last time we had massive server problems was due to them bringing Neverwinter online. My guess is it has something to do with the sorry servers they use and the lack of redundat servers as backups. We all know the game is making money or they would have sold it. So they need to take some of the profits and buy some new equipment. Here lately they have had a enormous amount of glitches and lag as well as connectivity problems. It really gets bad after the weekly patch.
1. Buy "NEW" Servers with Warranties and quit trying to patch up old junk.
2. Have "Professionals" install it not the Geek Squad.
3. Hire Staff that understands the equipment and how to operate it.
4.Place an ad for "Software Engineers" on Monster.com

Have they said anything?
Time will only tell!
