You are my very favorite right now
Just announced this on our live recording of The Foundry Roundtable as BREAKING NEWS !!!!
THANK YOU Smirk !
Thank You
Thank You
Thank YOu
My suggestion remains some sort of back to the basics exploration theme.
"To seek out new life, and new civilizations. To boldy go where no one has gone before."
Looking forward to the challenge.
The countdown begins, eh ?
7 days.

A TIME TO SEARCH: ENTER MY FOUNDRY MISSION at the RISA SYSTEM Parallels: my second mission for Fed aligned Romulans.
Now that we have this whiteout bug fixed, we will be bringing back the new Foundry Challenge next Wednesday, and it will definitely be a player suggested topic.
So start adding your entry ideas here, and I will pick one out before next week. Countdown begins..... now!
Thanks for your patience everyone, and good luck with your submissions!

How about a mission with no easy way out?
Like, no matter what you do, everything's not going to turn out all happy and dandy.

Make a challenge about cat mission, nah JK.
Why not do exploration? A lot have asked for that lately.
Well, I never would have expected the turn this thread has taken. A simple question about when the next foundry challenge would happen has turned into a suggestion thread for the next Foundry Challenge. I'm glad to have facilitated such a lively discussion with so many great ideas for the next challenge so far. Hopefully we'll get some more cool ones.
Here are some more ideas:
- Delta Quadrant explo challenge which would tie in well with our new Dyson Sphere content. It could also be a cool way to explore/pick up some Voyager storylines.
- Something with the Undine, especially since those assets were upgrade and we have now seen the Undine have a gateway to the Dyson Sphere and thus the Alpha Quadrant. (oh man, what about mirror Undine)
- An earth centered mission with the Undine (infiltration, Dyson sphere invasion?)
- A diplomatic mission trying to bridge the gap between the major powers; the new featured episode suggested that there might be some rifts in the uneasy alliance that the KDF, Feds, and Roms have entered into, so it might be nice to see some missions about how these warring factions/uneasy allies are getting along
- Stranded on a planet mission. Some of the classic Trek missions involved away teams getting left to fend for themselves on the ground when the transporters were taken out of commission or the ship was called away. It could be interesting to have a story set on just one planet (maybe you have a shuttlecraft or some small non-interplanetary transport).
Or maybe theme it around O'Brien/Bashir. Foundry Challenge: Bromance Edition. (Not limited to guys or same gender but a Foundry mission that centers on platonic buddies.)
A couple challenge topic suggestions that I've made before (one in this thread, one a long time ago).
1. A "Bottle Episode"
Make a mission that is set entirely inside the player's ship.
2. Duty Officer Stories
You meet a duty officer in the hall one day and get to talking. This conversation leads you on a wild adventure you never expected.
I have a variation on both of those:
1.a: The Disaster Bottle Show: During a battle, your ship's dueterium tanks are exposed to space, leaving your crew forced to survive with limited supplies and life support until rescue. The needs of the many...
2.a Duty Officer Story: Telepaths: Starfleet command suspects an Undine has infiltrated the ship and has sent a powerful telepath to root them out. You and a non-telepathic Betazoid have to get the crew to accept the telepath probing their mind.
And then one of my own: The Strange New World At Home: What is Earth like in the 25th Century? Do a mission set entirely on Earth. What is the strange new world of Humanity? What are some of the cultural changes that have occurred?

Love the bottle episode idea. Unfortunately I think its brilliance faces a vast chasm of the variety of player ships we posess and as we all know I think we'd get more people complaining the episode was entirely outside the realm of "their ship" or how "their characters" would interact.
BUT it would be more than possible to try a bottle episode inside a third party ship. Even that runs into asset challenges. But make no mistake of the brilliance of that suggestion though.
Just wanted to give you my two thumbs up on that.
Back in January, on my BDay I wanted an exploration challenge because we really don't see the spirit of Star Trek much these days so let's bring that back. I kinda miss the feeling of what is the crew going to find next? What civilization shall we stumble upon that shows us our merits of character by discovering their likeness in our own humanities or their differences which set us apart?
So two thumbs up to everybody in all the other threads who have wanted this as well but haven't managed to make it into this thread quite yet (quite possibly oblivious to Smirk's posting). Allow me the ambassadorial moment there if you will
At first, I didn't like the bottle episode idea because of the aforementioned problems with people having a lot of different ship layouts, etc. I do like the idea of a bottle episode on a third party ship. Personally, I jump to Jellico taking over the Enterprise when I think of that. What if your captain was ordered to take over another captain's ship while they went on a covert assignment?
Well it is supposed to be a "challenge" right? I'd look forward to seeing the creative ways you all would find to overcome the various issues with the Bottle Show idea.
I like all of:
Exploration
Bottle show (allow it to be somebody else's ship if preferred, just cuts out too many options otherwise, I think)
Alien first contact - like Klintobean just said
Romulans - because having introduced the Romulan faction, people are saying we didn't do enough with it. Also, because the one I'm already writing is about Romulans
A low-tech challenge - where the player characters are deprived of some/all of their fancy technology in some way, and have to improvise. Would tie in very well with the "Stranded on a planet" idea.
Only reason I'm adamant about exploration is based on the premise that it gives us a chance to use more of the assets in range. Even though I'm tempted by Drogyn's suggestion, I think given the current state of overtly over-used props and even less pairing groups of objects we'd see a lot of platform-based up-hill battles there with a bottle challenge. I hope that it would circulate in consideration for a future challenge(make no mistake) but I hope theres at least some sprinkling of new assets to support it first. I just want as many authors involved in Smirk's first issuance of a challenge as possible.
So if I move the magnifier back to exploration, we'll get a wide range of inate challenges like the comparable measure of characters, building the glimpse into alien realities(if applicable) and a wide slew of other factors as well. *Continues rapping on his exploration-drum*
hoping you could add value to farming missions during foundry weekend or add a nice shooter (not story or puzzle) mission to spotlight. maybe royal rumble kdf and fed side (highest rated mission over the years) also requires a decent build to complete (its a challenge to all but the most op of players)

it's a challenge to sit and watch npc ships kill each other?

Not sure if serious or trolling. No grinder deserves a spotlight.
I'd support an exploration challenge one too, bring us away from STO pew pew fest and back into Trek
Thats my 2 cents. i support exploration as a theme or make it a Romulan mission challenge. That is all the missions would be for Romulan players (We need more of those).

I love the idea of more romulan stuff. But unfortunately they don't have a single Tau Dewa door at all. In my first mission I was forced to recreate Gamma Eridon because it wouldn't make any sense to use any of the old outdated romulan stuff. ..unless it's one of those romulan time warp missions or something.

It must happen, perhaps we will discover the secret to obtaining manes.

Or
Exploration, but I think that's too broad of a theme.
A mission that features two Cryptic characters you would never expect to see together....
(Ie. Franklin Drake and D'vek.)
Or people from two factions you've never seen interact before.
(Ie. Hirogen/Ferengi, Cardassian/Fek'Ihiri, Android/Klingon, etc.)
Or maybe theme it around O'Brien/Bashir. Foundry Challenge: Bromance Edition. (Not limited to guys or same gender but a Foundry mission that centers on platonic buddies.)

How does the author decide to meet the challenge of incorporating an interesting new society/alien race into the storyline?
What kind of conflicts come up?
Is there a battle that ensues?
The possibilities are endless and very Star Trek to the core.
Hopefully missions like these would help encourage players to want to try more Foundry missions.

P.S. Thanks for continuing these Foundry Challenges!
