With our beloved BranFlakes leaving, I have a question for CaptainSmirk. Will we be seeing a new Foundry Challenge anytime soon? Will you continue the tradition of promoting Foundry missions through these types of contests? Can we expect to see more Foundry activities in the future?
Yes, I had heard that. I'm simply wondering where we are as far as that bug fix goes and also if our new Community Manager will be continuing the Foundry Challenges. I assume he will, but just wanted to check.
I like exploration (in the mirror universe if you like! Actually that might be fun, much wider possibilities for meeting unexpected people, like maybe some of those wacky Mirror Borg who nobody can agree on so we have to assume they're all different). Colonies are another possibility, much of the same fun in it.
What about low-tech missions? (Possibly at the same time.) Survival in the wilds of some planet or other, with nothing but the stuff you beamed down with and what you can scrounge. Or in a city, or in the remote past. Or holding the fort at some improvised field hospital somewhere... better stop this, I'm getting carried away.
Ignoring all the above, Romulans, because I've got one with Romulans in the works myself. Might not get that finished in time, mind.
I vote Mirror Dominion. Let's see some people whom we've never seen in the MU before.

I heard they are peaceful changelings in the MU. Changing into animals and forms for the kids, during weddings and anniversary. Even into Unicorns and pony (always work).
Yeah I just looked at some of mine and.... it's better... but not great. A few of the props are properly visible, but not all, the funny part is the generic crates since in those the small crates are colored properly, but not the big ones.
So the fix for the whiteness is indeed active on Tribble (according to trustworthy sources).
While I love the idea of "wide open" challenges, I think I prefer at least a word or a sentence to help the authors focus on a specific theme at the very least. Just my opinion.
Oh yeah, and

(okay, fine a mirror universe challenge would be cool to.)
Honestly though, I'd love to see a challenge that is all the participants crafting a 1st Contact sort of scenario or something.
So based on a thread up in the general forums, here's an idea for a challenge:
"Bottle Episode"
In the Star Trek TV shows, to save money for the big two-parters and such, they would sometimes do a show with no guest stars and only using existing sets. Most often it would take place entirely on the ship (or the station, in the case of DS9).
The challenge would be to make the best mission you can that is set completely within the player's ship and with only characters from the player's crew, i.e. whatever BOFFs the player has with them and author-created "junior officers."
Obviously there are a limited amount of interiors available, but many of us have built custom ones (sky castles) to represent parts of the player's ship before. Personally I've built astrometrics, battle bridge, holodecks, etc.
I think it could be interesting, and would really rely a lot on the strength of the story.

A neat idea, but... way to many ship variants out there.. we'd be walking into "but im flying X ship, my interior isnt this."

I would love that. I imagine people would use the holodeck a lot.
Me personally I would create a story similar to the voyager episode where they had to traverse the void. Especially the parts where they had too much free time. As boring as this may sound I would make a mission with mini missions that focuses on what your crew does when the ship isn't fighting aliens and saving the galaxy.

As vague as it is, I really like this. I hope Smirk has been thinking about Foundry Challenges.

I've done this a lot, set part of a mission in the interior of what is supposed to be the player's ship. I've never had any complaints.
I think as long as you don't use a bridge you'd be fine.
