Months ago, I deleted my old Klingon, K'Reegor. I renamed one of my other Klingon characters using a Z-Store rename token from Corvin to K'Reegor. I noticed after I got the Shard of Possibilities that the shadow copies of my character are named Corvin. I have also seen in the heal window that my character is listed as Corvin. When I looked at Edit Record, there was no First, Middle, or Last name set. Whenever I attempt to set the First, Middle, or Last name as K'Reegor, it says that I already have a character by that name. I changed the Record to be First Name of Lord and Last Name of K'Reegor, just to see if that would remove any remnants of the entry for Corvin. However, the Shard shadows are still named Corvin, as does the heal window. Despite having paid for a name change and deleting a character, I seem to be unable to truly rename my existing character. Please help me resolve this. I believe I have a similar issue on a couple other KDF characters as I did some shuffling of names and costumes back when I deleted the original K'Reegor character. The token did allow me to rename the character, but not completely. The remnants of a long gone character are preventing me from making any further changes myself, and I'm not sure how the Shard and heal window are seeing a name that I no longer have anywhere on my account.
I submitted a ticket here and in game, but both seem to have been closed referencing that I should use the other system. Can someone please help me out with this? Isn't there some way your support team could force a rename or something? For example, what if someone names their character a copyrighted name, say Spiderman. If that gets reported, don't you force a rename? If they then rename the character to something appropriate, is that suppose to also change the Shard clones, the heal window, and the name in the Record? Otherwise, the person could still be running around with Shards clones named Spiderman just as both of mine are named Corvin.
Please, any help would be great. I believe I have at least one other character that has a similar issue, but this is my main KDF character, so I'm more concerned with fixing this one first.
Thanks!

I have this same issue on a Romulan toon that I used my vet token to rename. I submitted a ticket and the response was basically, huh, well that's a bug, why don't you file a bug report and we'll let you know, okay. I asked if I could get my rename token refunded or if they could actually rename my character, and all I got was acknowledgement that it was a bug, and that they didn't care. Sorry, good luck on getting your name fixed.
I'd never noticed before, but I used the shard, and like you said in your post, my clones are still called eleven, my toons old name. Also with the shard, I feel it's weird that my Rommy clones run around firing phaser rifles. Any devs care to comment on how the name tokens we buy aren't completely changing our names? It's a service that we pay for, so kinda sucks when it doesn't actually work.
You NEVER get an answer to bug reports and that's "normal" (as in, that's how Cryptic works). If you want (aka, hope) for an answer, use the "request GM help" instead.
Just looking today post patch, none of this has been addressed yet. Also Saur, when I was talking about a ticket and getting an answer, I was referring to the PWE support site where I filed a ticket out of game. The response I got was pretty much oh, well, file a bug report in game and standby to standby.

Yeah that's what I meant, I didn't "just" file bug reports, I should have been more specific, I filed many bug reports, and asked for GM assistance when the bugs went unfixed for months. Didn't get a response.
Can confirm this. I renamed my Alien Fed eng from Almar Omek to Cade (was revamping him to be more than just a bank), but enemies targeting him still read Almar Omek occasionally. It's quite odd.
Thank goodness it's not just me or just a KDF issue. Between the tokens not truly cleaning up the name and deleted characters blocking me from re-using names, it seems as though there is some data repository that is not being updated properly.
I wasn't expecting them to have this resolved anytime soon, there are bugs that have existed for a very long time (looking at you Marauder reward, KHG costume pieces, costumes locked out/unusable, First Contact missions not being given after hitting tier 4, BOFFs not loading on your bridge, BOFFs stuck in floors and chairs on your bridge, FAW...). However, I'm hoping someone could at least acknowledge that they see this issue, that it is a thing, and that it will be added to the list of things they fix soon*. The ticket system(s) seem to do little more than acknowledge that I successfully submitted a ticket. I would think that since these tokens are something people spend money on, they would want to fix it. It may not be a regular purchase, but it's still a broken revenue stream if people actually see this thread before they buy one. Otherwise, they may find themselves here after the fact with buyer's remorse.

Just to clarify, they've said multiple times that the GMs cannot help you with bugs. Filing GM tickets in lieu of bug reports is probably not going to help do anything other than annoy the GMs, GMs have nothing to do with QA.

I get that. I know that a GM can't fix what is likely a coding issue. It would just be nice to see something that says that the "top men" who could fix it are at least aware. The auto response almost comes off as it being filed away in a database that never actually gets viewed.

Nitpicking is a time-honored tradition of science fiction. Asking your readers not to worry about the "little things" is like asking a dog not to sniff at people's crotches. If there's something that appears to violate natural laws, then you can expect someone's going to point it out. That's just the way things are.
Ever notice that the Personal tab of Doff assignments shows the character's old name?
It seems that the rename token changes the data in one column in one table, but there must be multiple columns storing character name data.
I was out for a couple weeks on vacation, so I hope this doesn't count as a necro, but I saw this after you posted it. So there are multiple places that clearly are not corrected by the name change token that was paid for. Given the new EPs statements on the P1 podcast about squashing bugs, I hope something happens with this soon. Granted, I'd like to see my costume slots working more than the naming bug fix if I had to chose, but I really hope someone has this at least on a whiteboard or list somewhere.

Thats funny. It must be some entry in the database for your account where the new name isnt applied and reflected back to some values/items. Simply forgotten to link them i guess.
Crypticfrost, you're awesome, I've seen you respond to quite a few bugs that I've been bringing up for awhile now and gotten no feedback. Please pass this along and keep up the good work.
Thanks for the reports. I'll investigate and make sure the appropriate people are informed.
Crypticfrost, thank you so much for your response! Since CoH beta, I've played CoH, CoV, SWG, CO, DCUO, and STO, and this is I believe the first time I've ever gotten an official response to a post! I know it will probably take a few patch cycles to resolve, but I'm glad someone is aware it's a problem. You rock!
While the "appropriate ppl are informed" i thank the op for the info that spares me from making the same mistake as in buying rename tokens
That was one of my main reasons for posting. I reported it as best I could, but I wasn't sure if anyone actually got it. It's not exactly game breaking, but I wanted others to be aware as well. I think I bought 4 or 5 of the things shuffling characters around. It's an odd issue, because not only are names held over on existing renamed characters, but the names of characters I did completely delete are being saved somewhere, preventing me from naming a different captain or boff that old name.

It wouldn't surprise me if the character name is actually stored in multiple tables. In fact, it wouldn't surprise me if the character name is used as a unique key in one table and referenced as a foreign key in other tables. That would make it a pain to change the character name, because you'd have to update all the references.

As best I understand things, this is highly likely and as such will take time to get fixed.
Can we get an update on this? I'd like to buy a rename token, but if it's not going to work, I don't really want to bother.
Well it works for the most part. It does indeed change your character's name, there are just some places here and there where your old name will show up. But no one else sees that, only you. IMO It's not really a huge deal, and certainly not game-breaking, but something that would be nice to see fixed nonetheless.
It shouldn't at all stop you from buying a rename token.

If is used a foreign key can be update by cascade. Anyway using strings as table key has always been a bad practice, even more if that string is subject to changes. I think they really need a db expert, those kind of errors are unacceptable for a game of this size.

Thanks for keeping us up to date Cryptic Frost. It looks like you guys were able to finally resolve the KDF uniform issues in the coming patch. Is there any chance that since the KDF uniform bullet point will fall off the weekly known issues list that this could be added in its place? I know it's not game breaking, but it would probably be a good idea to get it out there for people who don't necessarily check this part of the forums.

Pretty disturbing state of affairs going on in the quality assurance area of this game.

Simple solution it seems.
