I do not do this but it is tempting. The shell game lasts forever, bugs at peak times (I have had presents on top of each other at the end, and other TRIBBLE ups when it is laggy), is not solvable during lag times (instead of running and being seen, Q does a lag-jump from a to b unseen), an is generally not fun. Even when it works, it takes too long to be fun, cut the time in half.

The shell game lasts about 60 seconds.... a far cry from "forever".

The lack of a response from the devs and GM's to stop such behavior says otherwise.
    No it does not.

I have had this a multitude of times, I either had to move a little in front or after the Q to activate the trigger.

Someone suggested this to me the very first day, but It only works something like 1 of 10 times... And it's truly annoying... To be blunt: I can't be bothered to wait for it.

Granted, the whole "activate more Q's" is not something you should do in a crowded zone, but until the point where this works again, I will continue to seek out several Q's at the same time...

If it helps, I rarely get more than 2 Q's going at a time (First one is always boxes, while the second one is a runner... always takes just enough time to capture the Q, until I can return to the boxes and Open them).
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
Let me put the rumors to rest: it's definitely still the C-Store (Cryptic Store) It just takes ZEN.

    Impossible....Thanks for making my point.

Efficiency? No. It's exploiting......... It's a grind for a reason. Perhaps you'd rather just wish it into your hand.

Go to a less populated instance to avoid the greedy? The world's new "Fix All". No wonder entire empires fall.......why not STO as well.

people will always find ways of exploiting the system but others have more subtly put it down to "efficiency" which is the same thing.

call it what you will, im not concerned, i will hunt for q in a chase rather than waiting for a few minutes on the presents.
    T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW.
Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.

IF and when Cryptic announces that they consider it a exploit, I WILL refer to it as such, and work within the terms of the EULA and stop...

However, this is the second year the Gifts have been active... one has to assume that they are aware of the scenario, and dosen't consider it as such.

Again, feel free to make Cryptic aware of it, and give some kind of official statement on the matter... I WILL refer to whatever they tell us.

I spent 5 minutes this morning running to Q's and being angry that none of them would trigger for me. Then I realized I forgot to choose the mission. :)
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

The problem is, there is a finite number of active mini-q in any instance, and by doing this, there is one less active mini-q for other players to interact with...
That's not usually a problem I've ever really seen, even before I started doing this (it was no more annoying than having runners all over the place). The first time I did it, I did just wait, but as things went on I started doing it differently because I don't want to stare at boxes for a few minutes. Last time I did it I got 5 boxes. 3 running at once, and then I got two more. I did stand around to wait for the last one to finish.

Though it may help that I always have switched to the lowest population instance. Always did the same with the winter event as well.

This looks like another attempt by the box boys to get the runners to stop participating in the event more efficiently than they do.

Calling the runners griefers didn't work, now they're attempting mockery.

"They're having fun wrong" is "they're having fun wrong" no matter what you try to wrap it in before setting it afire, throwing it on the neighbor's porch, ringing the doorbell, and running.

...and I'm still knocking out 5 characters in less time than some of these people spend crying about me rip-roaring through my daily chores. :P

Until they put in the option of which game I want to do, I will continue bypassing the shell game.

You actually have that option. The Party Crashers with hit point bars run, the ones without hit point bars spawn the shell game.
Hey devs, how about adding a line in that makes all miniQ's a shell game after the first one is abandoned. Lol, the tears would flow.

Not my tears. The only effect this would have on me is I'd go spawn 5 shell games, then do all 5 in order and still be gone in less time than it takes most of the haters to make their "waaah, they're doing it wrong even though the devs aren't doing anything about the way they're doing it wrong" posts. :P

Bwaaaahahahahaha! I did the same thing a couple of days ago. I was getting highly annoyed, then looked at my mission log, facepalmed, and hailed Q.

Do I consider it bad gamesmanship to walk away from the bloody 3 present monty to get a runner, yes. Mainly because out of 15 Q-turds I get on average 2 runners and that is after trying to activate about 40 of them to get the game going in the first place .

    Read and learn:

Some Party Crashers ("Mini-Qs," "Q-turds") have hit point bars, some do not.

The Party Crashers with hit point bars will run. Every time. Bar none.

The Party Crashers without hit point bars spawn the shell game. Every time. Bar none.

Pick the ones you want- it only takes a tiny little bit of paying attention and thinking.

Its just amazing that no matter what the devs do someone always has to complain that someone is doing it wrong. There were no instructions saying you couldn't walk away from a Q. The fact that nothing has changed says to me it's an affirmation that things are status quo. Most people will be done with it this week. Just change instances to a less populated one. I'm doing 8 toons a day on this and get done in about 20 minutes hardly worth complaining about.

There is a very simple solution to all this: Make the MiniQs instanced. The MiniQs you see and interact with are yours and yours alone. We've seen them instance stuff before, why can't they do it for this?

Oh god yes, let's add another "Loading..............." screen, that's sure to stop all the QQing.

...about people leaving Lord Q's presence, anyway- it'll be drowned out by the complaints about the new "Loading................" screen.

Additionally, I pick a color and always guess it, if I arrive back to the boxes after sorting has finished. For me its green. For some weird reason, Green gives me a bout a 66% positive result. YMMV.

Thus far, I have 100% blue boxes (including previous year)... It's ALWAYS the blue box.
I simply rely on the shooter crosshairs, and while I have not found that it is always Blue for me, I believe I get Blue or Green 90% of the time.

    Nerf is OP, plz nerf
That's quite the paradox, how could you nerf nerf when the nerf is nerfed. But how would the nerf be nerfed when the nerf is nerfed? This allows the nerf not to be nerfed since the nerf is nerfed? But if the nerf isn't nerfed, it could still nerf nerfs. But as soon as the nerf is nerfed, the nerf power is lost. So paradoxally it the nerf nerf lost its nerf, while it's still nerfed, which cannot be because the nerf was unable to nerf.

I call it, the Stoutes paradox.

Can only claim credit for relaying, I never noticed myself until someone else said it in a thread here.

Been posting the hell out of it since, and until I facepalmed and thought about color I was apparently wasting my time until that last post. :D

Your arrogance is astounding. A few years ago, a grind for an anniversary ship was non existent. It was a one off and viola, your new ship. Perhaps the entire problem can be solved if they removed the grind completely?

I don't mean as a separate map. You'd still go to the normal academy social map, but the MiniQs you see and interact with are just yours. We've seen them do this before. Interact example: Captains Table. Both visual and interact example: The old vet dil NPC. (Yes, the vet dil NPC was somewhat bugged with interacting with other NPCs, but it mostly worked.)

And besides, if it was a completely separate map, how is that really any different than it is now?

    Now:
    Beam to ESD/First City
    Get quest from Q
    Beam to academy
    Do quest
    Beam back to ESD/First City

    Instanced way:
    Beam to ESD/First City
    Get quest from Q
    Beam to instanced academy
    Do quest
    Beam back to ESD/First City

Or hey, maybe do like they do for the Roms and add a portal right next to the ESD/First City Qs that takes you to the instance.
