Ships, Are they Ruining the Game?

Ok so I remember STO before PWE and it was in the future but not really out of cannon context just a new point in time and new technology as expected. But now everytime I go to Earth and see all the ships in orbit I really feel that all them lockbox ships and romulan ships in orbit are ruining the game. It may just be me...

Could we at least limit Romulans from parking around earth? May be let them part by Jupiter?

    Those are all Fed Aligned Romulans. Why shouldn't they be parked with all the other ships?

    I think it's funny that a lot of people on the forum say feds don't need consoles from the other factions because that kills uniqueness while at the same time being ok with feds, romulans, and kdf all using breen or ferengi, or voth, or jem hadar, or cardassian, or elachi, or hirogen, or tholian ships. lock boxes pretty well killed faction uniqueness a long time ago. On the other hand what could they really do about it, you know if they were to remove all that stuff everyone that spend money getting one would riot. About all they could do would be to either stop doing lock boxes or stop putting ships like that in them.

    I kind of agree with the OP. There are a LOT of ships in the game that we never saw in the show, and some weren't even mentioned. While I like seeing new ships once in a while, I would much prefer to see some other canon ships added. There are still some ships from different series that aren't even in the game at any point, and I think it would be a good idea to get them all in first before adding more unknown, unseen, and rather ugly ships.

    So many canon trek ships go unused, while we get fictional magical ships that make no sense. They could have used the same stats on trek hulls.

    My point exactly, ships should be faction specific to me anyways so my idea is make future lock boxes have faction specific ships that are only available from lock boxes. I don't know maybe I am wrong but they should just agree its a mistake and let them slowly go extinct so we get back to the old days.

    I agree Canon ships make the game more immerse. My Jem'Hadar Dreadnought Carrier is my flagship in this game. I would like to see more canon ships because this game is called "Star Trek" and not generic Space game online.

    At the same time I understand the need to make money. But I'm sure canon ships can bring in money and be fun to pilot.
    One day Cryptic will be free from their Perfect World overlord. Until that day comes, they will continue to pamper the whales of this game, and ignore everyone that isn't a whale.

    Currently, perhaps the worst feature in the game is the cooldown on PvE queued missions. We can play battlezone ground again and again but not the space stuff.

    That ship has sailed long ago. Ever since Cryptic had its eyes opened by the very first box with the bugship in it, STO. was doomed. Better to just ignore it as best you can and try to enjoy the game in spite of it all.

    What is wrong with defeating an enemy ship and flying it as a spoil of war? Utilitizing enemy ships for a military fleet just makes too much sense. The enemy is likely to hesitate before firing on their own empire's or ally's ship.

    I understand what you're saying. You're basically looking for a more immersive experience in STO. The problem is that this game has always been more theme park than immersion. Individual missions will sometimes be immersive but overall game play will not be.

    My sense of immersion was lost the moment I saw 150 year old Connies flying next to Sovereigns on Headstart Launch day. The sense of immersion did not improve with 250 year old NXs, 125 year old Connies (T2 version), 125 year old Oberths, 125 year old Excelsiors (T3 and T5), 300 year old D'Kyrs, and so on. Let alone a dozen of different uniforms running through ESD and DS9 - and aliens 10' tall and 3' tall.

    Immersion is what you make of it. :)
    STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

    So... Starfleet ships should be parked closer to ESD, like handicapped parking spaces at the mall?

    Here I was expecting an intelligent statement from OP about the dangers of power creep and how it's probably gotten horribly out of hand with all these super-strong ships.

    Instead it's a whine post about immersion.

    lol immersion and canon. This is a video game foremost, an mmo. most mmos survive by constantly adding newer and flashier items to be traded or earned. It's the carrot on the stick method. If you want canon, then many of the ships you saw from the tv shows and such would all be horribly outdated seeing as how it s some 40-50+ years (depending on their first appearances) since some of those ships were commissioned. You could say it's odd that federation captains are piloting all sorts of alien ships, but thats nothing. How about way before all the alien ships, people had the ability to wear uniforms and uniform colors that weren't canon. This was before pwe took over, so you really can't pin the falling sky on them. I personally like star trek as well as star trek canon and lore, but as an mmo player I do like the various alien ships and the ability to fly them too. This is especially true on the FED side as I have honestly always found federation ships to be ugly as all sin. Growing up with the tv shows, I always liked seeing the alien vessels a lot more. I dunno, maybe it's the saucer thing that puts me off on most fed models/

    I have the habit of ignoring everyone around me in an MMO, except those I know, or want to know.
    Basically, I'm the Picard/Kirk of the game, and I'm the only hero there. And when I have an unsual ship, sometimes, that's because I'm the hero. And it makes it less unusual to have only 1 alien ship in starfleet, opposed as thousands.

    I don't feel superior or anything over the others players. They are just the NPC in my game :) And I think I'm a NPC for them. It's fair, and I don't mind.

    Probably the fact that with your proposal the Assault Cruiser Refit would cost effectively $200 per toon, assuming the same odds as with previous lockboxes. No thank you.

    Ah the apologist approach. When something is done wrong, they should absolutely continue, but not only continue, escalate the situation, just to be sure everything comes out as the biggest mess technically possible, only limited by hard boundaries. That's the only tune that goes around here, these days.

    Once again, you're spot on and I completely agree. You Sir with your posts, are a breath of fresh air on these forums. :)

    I'll however mention something else about ships in STO. I think we have waaaay to many ships compared to actual content that we need them for. Honestly, I think that there are just way too many ships. Yeah, diversity is good and enabling people choices is good as well, but it just seems that the entire focus of the game has switched to ships and even the content released is somehow starting to be related to selling those and not to stand by itself.

    If you are asking about power creep I agree. It takes a lot to keep canon designs competitive.
    But if you mean the diversity of ships around places like Earth? No it is better than just SF ships. And here is why.

    Go out and look at a road near you. The police cars are Star Fleet ships. But they are not the only ships on the road. You get sedans, sports cars, off roaders, pickup trucks to big delivery vehicles on the roads.
    Same with an important hub like Earth. The only thing they could do to make it more immersive would be to spread out the arrival point so ships did not collide just coming out of warp at the same spot.

    With the KDF, well, let's just say power talks and as long as an ally is useful the High Council will tolerate them.

    It is if the ships don't originate from within the large group of diverse species. Andorian escorts, Caitian carriers and Vulcan science vessels are not out of place in the Federation Starfleet, because those species are already part of the Federation. Jem'Hadar bug ships (and most other lockbox/Lobi ships) are a different story.

    But, as others have pointed out, that ship warped out of the system long ago. Three of my toons have Jem'Hadar ships and they have proven too useful for me to abandon out of such silly concerns as immersion. Especially my JHDC - it's a Dyson Sphere beast. :D

    I like your view on this maybe a solution would be to spread out where people warp in and even make it so non-federation ships cant have U.S.S. in the name, that would make it much more immersive to me at least. You wouldn't see cargo ships with U.S.S. in it. Nor would you see it on a civilian vessel. So maybe cryptic should really fix this!

    Very true dont mind the ships from species in the federation as members, but really do we need to see Jem'Hadar ships at earth! So can we maybe see fewer unrelistic ships in game? Maybe a Bajoran ship, those would actually make since as they are a member of the federation!
