Yeah, so I had 4500zen saved up, the sale came about, I spent near 4000zen on 40 master keys, opened 40 Tal Shiar Lock Boxes (I'm actually after the Adapted Battle Cruiser though figured I'd swap one out for the other). I was rewarded with about x25 Doff Packs, x2 Dilithium Claims, x1 Trait, x7 Tal Shiar Command Codes and a bunch of Nanite Weaponry.
No Ship.
I swear I do this every time. Somebody slap some sense into me please.

Well, thank you for funding my future enjoyment of STO ! :P
Actually, I think you just did this yourself.

Been opening boxes for a Temporal Science ship for ages. Never seen one since...uh...the last one I had.
I bought an LTS when it went on sale and I'm very happy with it.
I'm also happy that i can feel like I've financially supported the game.
I came to the game as an FTP, and I still think the FTP model is one of the best out there.
However, this only works for cryptic if some of us who come for the FTP stay for the pay-them-cash.
So, I'm happy to do my bit. If my sub supports ten free players, I see that as a bargain, not someone sponging off me.
All that said, if i want Cryptic to spend time creating content I like and fixing bugs that annoy me, they need cash. Probably more than my $200 for an on sale LTS.
So, i open boxes very happily and as often as I can.
I can rarely afford to buy zen with cash, but I do when I can.
The rest of the time I'll happily grind dil for zen to buy keys, or grind EC to buys keys from the exchange.
On rare occasions I'll buy a ship directly from the exchange.
Because, by participating in this economy i create a market for someone with more cash than me to buy zen.
My work gets turned into zen, which someone paid cryptic cash for.
And, as a previous poster said, think of lock boxes as lobi boxes and everything else apart from that is a bonus.
Basically, opening lock boxes is how I thank cryptic, on an ongoing basis, for this game.
By your command.

...you're welcome?
I've been waiting for the price to drop for ages now, it hasn't. I figured I might be lucky enough to get the ship out of 10 boxes. 10 turned to 20, 20 turned to 30. Before I knew it, I'd exhausted my zen.
Much appreciated.
Seriously? People send you hatemail for that?
Yes because he refused to give them the ship for free.
Not cool. No one deserves this...
Well sucks to be them... Thats no reason to be a douche... But I guess this brings up the old argument of "This should not be shown in the System/Flyins".
He does... He asked for a b*tchslapping, and that's what he gets.
Next time sell the keys and buy the ship on the exchange, jello-brains!
It was not you who told them, it was the stupid system that keeps advertising every time you open a box and get a nice ship. You get harassed by the messages.
A fool, and his money, are soon parted.
(Provides a "Back hand" slap.)
However, if you open up lock boxes for the sole purpose to aquire lobi for stuff like consoles and outfits, then you may, just may get a ship in the process. Remember, when Gambling, it is the mindset that often influences Karma and then maybe then she may bless you with a winning streak lol.
if that is the case its not so bad, if like me you have most of the stuff you really want from the c-store you can do like me afford to look on this as crazy money so it doesn't matter so much if you splurge a bit here and there, I have done the same myself on occasion but not quite to that degree.
I felt a little bad myself at first as I never got a ship either but then I looked at the prices of some of the stuff I did get like doff packs, xp boosts and such, though some of the values I had to take a rough guess at, and worked out that I was actually well ahead on the deal.
you will most likely find the same yourself if you do a similar thing yourself, ok so the stuff you got you most likely would not have bought but if you look at the lockboxes like a lucky dip with a few prizes a little lower then the cost of the key, some around about or slightly over the cost of the key and the all important grand prize its not so bad.
the only thing I would say is if or when you do buy more keys try and limit yourself on how many you get or think to yourself if there is something that you would rather use the zen on or how bad you will feel if you open all the boxes and don't get the star prize.
the only other thing was I shared the keys out between my characters as most of the stuff you get is bound to the character and I figured that the ship if I won it would most likely be boxed and unbound so I could transfer it to the character I wanted to use it on.
if however you paid for these keys then I will say no ship is worth that kind of money.
When I think about everything we've been through together,
maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,
and if that journey takes a little longer,
so we can do something we all believe in,
I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.
Fixed that for you. Had some extraneous text at the end, there.

You just broke your limp noodle. Might want to take it to the repair shop to get it fixed. Then it won't be able to reproduce. Wouldn't want limp noodles to reproduce like tribbles, would we?
"The spaghetti is attacking, the spaghetti is attacking!"
"Pasta or rice?"
"How the bloody **** should I know? I'm British, not Italian or Chinese."
My first thought was to correct you to say "The House Always Wins."
Then I was wondering when they would make Leeta a contact to buy old lockboxes in game?
