if anyone cares here's the colors the Romulans use(ed) on their uniforms to denote their departments in the early 24th century:
Royal purple - High level command and flag officers
Jade/pale green - Tactical officers
Grey - Sciences and technical specialists
Dark blue - Engineering

A Trill, a Gorn, a Jem'Hadar, Bejoran and a Voth walk into a bar, and the Bartender asks "What is this a Joke?"
"Nope, just my away team" the trill replies before ordering a round for the bar.
I actually wondered about that during the beta. I had a fed allied Rom and used starfleet division colors, but it looked funny.
Yeah, that's why I went looking. Red just doesn't suit my Reman Tactical Captain.

That's handy, I was trying to use some form of divisional colour scheme on the Tal Shiar uniform, but with only the Federation colours to go by, it didn't look right. Thanks for the info!

This character is why I don't play my Romulan any more. Tovan Khev is NOT my BFF! Get him off my bridge!

Now if the programers would only implement those colors in-game much as they have for the Federation.....
Huh...may have to try and implement these colors into my Romulan captain/Boff's uniforms. Might look better than the mostly green outfits I currently have them wearing.
Cool I'll try these out on my characters. It's not canon, so I understand Cryptic taking it in their own direction. I wonder how these will look on the Klingon-Romulan uniforms. Right now I'm using Green for Sci, Red-Tac, and Yellow-Eng.
Additional Observation:
The Romulan Republic belts' device glows come in three-ish colors. Green, teal & blue, and Yellow. If we use the OP's department-color combos that could be Green for Tactical and Teal/Blue for Engineering, leaving Yellow for Science.

The one and only Mark Lenard as a Romulan Commander with Blue Centurion
I found my personal "excuse" to use green on my TOS stuff, given that if you search long and hard enough, the answers will always be there. That's early Tal Shiar. You know. From when it was still an honor to be one.
( Info far down to the left side. Under "Romulan Ranks". )

Except Tal'Shiar have, according to all available info about them, never been military, but always civilian (so calling them a "security division" and giving them military sashes seems a bit disingenuous at best).
What I'm currently using in my fleet uniforms (bear in mind that my fleet is a Military Intelligence fleet, and black is the basic color, although dark grey may be substituted for black where the tailor does not allow black):
Solid Black - Erein
Black with Green - Tactical (Enarrain and up)
Black with Blue - Security (Enarrain and up)
Black with Grey - Science & Medical (Enarrain and up)
Black with Yellowish - Engineering & Operations (Enarrain and up)
Black with Red - Command (khre'Riov and up)
Black and Violet with Red - High Command (khre'Enriov and galae'Enriov)
Black and Violet with Grey-Violet - galae'Enriov

You would be amazed, beyond doubt. The Tal Shiar used to be called such things as "the special intelligence branch of the Romulan military", in the good old days. When you could use them to have good old fashioned fun. Since that's not allowed anymore, then such fun must be secretly had nonetheless.
( The Starfleet Command series, the reference here, *heavily* influenced the space combat in this game. And it is indeed still the best part of it. IMHO.)
Thanks for the information on Rihannsu branch colors. Means my Rommie toons no longer have to look like Firefly escapees, lol. Although, if they were allowed to bring some Reivers with them, I think the Elachi might go hunting elsewhere for new troops. Unless they have the misfortune to run into Whisper. In that case, God help them.
A six year old boy and his starship. Living the dream.
Command Purple H2 | Tactical & Security Green E1 | Engineering Blue F4 | Science Grey I18 | Medical Yellow D4
Excuse the bugged BOff uniform.
this color scheme looks nice. I'll probably do this, except using White for my primary top color rather than grey. probably keep grey for my primary pants color though.

would that be out of place for a Romulan?
The original "Balance of Terror" script called for the Commander to be in white to distinguish him from the others on his ship. However, before the episode was filmed, the script was changed (this wasn't the only change).
So the answer to your question is "maybe, maybe not."
I say "Go for it." We're New Romulans, which means that a past custom may or may not be preserved.
You know, the only the other day I noticed that they changed shirt colours for department,..swore they were all in some sorta pale green before, but in Sphere of Influence, Kererek is clearly in green(not pale green), Maiek in pale yellow, Adranna in dark blue. Was this always so and I didn't notice, or was it just for this FE?

You think that's confusing, go walk around your lower decks on the Romulan ship interior, and you notice crew members wearing red walking around. What department do they belong to?

considering kerererereek is in the same tacky yellowish color as everyone else when you report to him in Command, I think the sphere mission was their first attempt.

Those are the guys who die when your ship gets hit by a torpedo xD
EDIT: oddboyout, great pic, and might I add the KDF uniform is much better looking than the Fed one, more professional and Romulan looking to me
Okay I'm beginning to flesh out the idea for my Romulan Department colors.
The Federation color scheme is similar to the artist's subtractive primary color palette: Red, Yellow, and Blue.
A Romulan Republic department color scheme could be based on the modern Subtractive Primary Color palette: Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Key (Black). We could use Magenta for Command, Cyan for Technical, White/Grey/Silver for Sciences, Yellow for Medical. Tactical & Security would be the odd-one out in this scheme, using Romulan-blood Green.
I imagine most scientists of the Republic are likely focused on the settlement of New Romulus. I don't think they would be a very large presence in the Republic Navy yet.

I suspect some of the boys would view magenta as "too girly," but nothing says each command can't have its own department colors for crew of the commanding officer's various vessels.

When your blood is green, accordingly will the colorwheel be seen.

Edit: Going to Color Name & Hue site: http://www.color-blindness.com/color-name-hue/ , (I have color issues personally), here is what I have down for the departments thus far.
Command: Magenta
Sciences: Silver/White/Gray
Medical: Yellow/Teal
I'll have STO local soon.
