Hey guys, I'm looking for a good DPS/Tank ship for my fed. Lockbox ships are preferred. What energy type is the best for DPS? How do I get the huge numbers other people get?
If you want tank and dps I'd go for the recluse. You get 30k+ dps, high aux for heals, massive apb stacking and gw all on one ship. Romplas for dps on sci console heavy ships fleet ap otherwise.
2 tac consoles tho.... doesn't that suck? And yeah, spire consoles with science consoles =^^^^ DPS. I was kinda thinking about the Tal Shiar adapted BC too.
I like the D'kora personally. Maybe its more of a 60/40 or 65/35 tank/dps, or maybe cause thats I fly mine with a engineer, but I find her a tough bird who can burn down enemies through, in my case, tons of plasma DOT.
The Fleet Excelsior, Sovereign, and Avenger (as well as their lockbox/Lobi store companions, the D'kora, Monbosh, and Galor) have an excellent blend of Engineering slots (for tank) and Tactical slots (for spank), and can run the flavor-of-the-month (for several months running) Aux2Batt build, which gives Engineering-heavy ships a way to basically double their high-level Tactical slots.
If that's your goal then you're going at it backwards.
Experience trumps talent. Talent trumps builds. Builds trump ships. That's why a veteran player in a bird of prey will out DPS a noobie in an Avenger.
If you want to get good, you need to team up with a veteran player who can show you the ropes, teach you about how to build any ship into a DPS monster, and keep you alive. Ask around your fleet for 'that guy.'
...Oh, baby, you know, I've really got to leave you / Oh, I can hear it callin 'me / I said don't you hear it callin' me the way it used to do?...

Err... Any noob can be in an Avenger, but a veteran won't be in a bop, lol.
In theory, a vet with a good build in a bad ship will do better than a noob with a bad build in a good ship. In practice, a vet won't be in a bad ship in the first place.
He's asking about the ship. Nothing wrong with that.
There are plenty of veteran players on the KDF side who fly BoPs, either because they like too, or just for the challenge.
But that's not the point of this thread, so I'll just answer the question. What's the best ship to give you a combination of DPS and tankiness? Honestly, it's whatever ship you like the best.
You can build up almost any ship to soak damage as well it can dish it out, either maximizing a sci ship or cruiser for damage potential or by taking an escort and building it towards survivability.
But since the OP was asking about lockbox ships, I'll just say I've had enormous fun of late in a Galor.
I'll even show you the build I'm running right now: http://skillplanner.stoacademy.com/?build=devilfishvampire_3722 This is just what it looks like: an A2B FAW drain build from hell. You could make it tankier by swapping the Sci drain abilities for PH and TSS but it already out-monsters all PvE content and more than holds it own in PvP even with my crappy piloting.

if you want DPS you need an escort or an AUX2batt cruiser...fit it with an engi captain and you got the tanking part covered.
cruisers you can consider: 1) definately recluse, though most dmg comes from the ultra rare pets that have BFAW3 and AP beta3 (i think)
2) tal shiar adapted cruiser. it is basically a sci ship disguised as a cruiser with a cloak
3) any one of the fed cruiser that have a LtdCmdr Tac boff station. Avenger ofcourse would be the popular choice.
4) though more an escort than a cruiser, i'd say the breen cruiser is a good (free) choice too.
2 tac consoles tho.... doesn't that suck? And yeah, spire consoles with science consoles =^^^^ DPS. I was kinda thinking about the Tal Shiar adapted BC too.
No need for tactical consoles, if you have enough APB. Recluse can run up to 5 copies of APB3. No other ship can do that. Damagewise that allows you to give the competitors a close run. And in terms of tanking, you're still up there with with the best.
The Recluse probably never was the absolute best damage dealer and get eclipsed in tankiness, too. But there is no other ship that ranks as high in both categories simultaneously.
Very well put. Totally agree with you.

Ok, so apparently I have pretty much all what you guys said, but from what I'm getting, if you use the spire consoles that give you crit chance and plasma, then use fleet plasma or rommie plasma, and the science cosnoles that boost your plasma damage, you have a DPS monster? But my question is, is this effective in PvP? I've heard that everyone and their brother's dog has plasma resist I currently use AP.
Threads like this always make me ask myself "what this guy wants is something that can kill everything but cant be killed, doesnt he?"
Answer is, built/flown right practically any ship can. But there is no i-win out of the box ship.
JHAS would take exception with this philosophy if it wasn't too busy blowing up your ship.

if you are not into the min-max thing, that is totally legit. No real need for fleet level ships in this game actually.
*edit: i actually like the way fleet ships are implemented in the game. With fleet ship modules from the exchange, i can get new ships without spending real cash, and use my dilithium for other stuff.

Best tank - Bulwark
There's nothing with both best dps and tank. There are plenty with both poor dps and tank, including ones mentioned by posters above.

For example;
Fleet Excelsior
Fleet Assault
Fleet Avenger
Monbosh
Though for a real blast, go Klink and use a Fleet Torkaht, and show the Mogh users how its done.
you either mean aux2batt or aux2damp...

Full beam Aux2Bat Fleet Excelsior. Can tank everything and anything, and hits like a wrecking ball.
So, is there a lockbox ship that can do that better? And I'm looking for a PvP build, not neccesarily PvE.
I don't see the difference in the fleet Ecselsior and the T4 or 5 one.

I'm guessing +10% hull and shields with an extra console slot...Boff layout may remain the same
My PvE/PvP hybrid skill tree
fleet ships have 10 consoles, 10% more hull and normaly a 1.1 shield mod...this one has 4 tac instead of 3
more info here and here
there is no T4 excelsior, only T3 (c-store, this one was actually available for 180k EC before F2P hit)...there is also a T5 c-store version

I think he means the default weapons the ship comes with are awesome...
