    Yup .
There's your incentive to not only stay away from STO on the weekdays , but on weekends as well .

And believe it or not , it actually hurts me to say that . :(

A better way to get people into the space zone (at least the contested one) is to give it the same rewards as the ground battlezone. Capture a point in space? Give people the same rewards as capturing a point in ground. Defend a point against attack? Get that reward again. Stick it out all the way until the Citadels get destroyed? 2 v-rex kill reward. Take out the Citadels without losing a point? 3 v-rex reward.

Want the zone to never die? Give us the option to get fleet marks instead. There's a substantial portion of your playerbase that strongly dislikes ground combat, and the sphere could be a new defera (but better populated) if only we got rewards that weren't awful. But until then, the sphere space, like new romulus, like nukara prime, like any other zone you make that doesn't carry the promise of continually-useful reward, will die.

Special events don't make content worth playing. The content itself and the usefulness of the reward make it worth playing.

Funny story. Last night someone in my fleet said they knew someone who use to log into 9 accounts and farm the Defera invasion zone every morning.

Remember when the hourly events went down and didn't work for a couple weeks recently? There was someone on the forums screaming about "losing" hundreds (or thousands) of marks every day because of it.

My best guess how they do it: multiple accounts logged in at the same time with all the alt accounts auto-following the main account and all of them set to auto-fire on anything that moves in the Defera invasion zone.

That's all I can think of. I don't see how it's possible to make that many marks on a single account, or multiple accounts logged in 1 at a time, in a single hourly event.

No, i farm fm's with NWS, 242 fm's in 10 minutes, 320 in the bonus-hour, so thats 78 every 10 minutes i lost for every fleet-mate (and me)..

nice for anyone who hasn't finished their rep yet.
I cant help agreeing with above it would be nice to have double fleet marks.

When I think about everything we've been through together,

maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,

and if that journey takes a little longer,

so we can do something we all believe in,

I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.

...Need for Fleet Marks? You DO realize it's easy to pick up, like, 2-300 in an hour, right? If there's a set of marks that do need this, it's the Romulans.

By your logic, 300 an hour with a 2400 daily mark requirement running t4 to t5 main starbase track without counting holdings would be 8 hours of grinding. Even by doing nws with 500 marks / 15 minutes thats over an hour of grind IF I can find a team.

This Lifetime membership player's thoughts aren't about the Bonus Dyson Mark Weekend, but about what follows this weekend...

    * Wonder if there's a requirement to get through some of the Dyson content to qualify for (or better understand) the upcoming Season 8.5 release update (January 30, 2014).

    * Also wondering when we'll see the calendar return, or some future event which earns fleet marks. I agree with many of the comments here about smaller fleets needing some marks support.

I'm looking forward to playing in the Solanae Dyson Sphere this weekend. I have a couple of characters to bring up to speed into Season 8! This event will be helpful.

EDIT: Seeing how 8.5 will have hybrid Dyson/FedKlingonRomulan starships, it makes sense to get more players involved in the Dyson Sphere adventures.

Onwards to STO's 4th Anniversary event in two weeks!

Incentivising increased traffic in open world zones with uninstanced objectives and respawn timers makes me less likely to visit the Dyson Sphere this weekend, not more likely.

I thought of a wonderful idea for this event this weekend:

Remove the Commendation limit. Let us get as many as we wish. Trust me, THAT would get people playing Dyson.
I remain empathetic to the concerns of my community, but do me a favor and lay off the god damn name calling and petty remarks. It will get you nowhere.
I must admit, respect points to Trendy for laying down the law like that.

Technically, you can already. Just get 350 marks and a free reputation project. But Dyson marks aren't the problem as it's easy to collect them, it's still the Dilithium lacking.
For about 3 minutes of gameplay in the Battlezone, you can get 60 Dilithium and 10 marks. For about 3 minutes of gameplay in the sky, you can get 3 marks or 13 if you happen to be close to another random event.

Having completed a T5 Starbase, T3 Embassy and Dilithium mine the real problem is having too many Fleet Marks.

Yes, early on Fleet Marks are a heavy requirement. For our small fleet the solution was two-fold; group Deferra runs preferably in the Bonus Hours, and the No Win Scenario.

One Deferra run with 4 players could easily drop 800-1000 Fleet Marks.

By structuring what projects were being done and when, by coordinating the efforts of our fleet AND by setting donation requirements - we finished our projects in a reasonable amount of time.

Very quickly though and particularly after we started NWS runs, was that we had too many Fleet Marks and not enough projects to spend them on.

Why do we even have all those various Marks?
We have no "Dilithium Mine Marks" or "Spire Marks", there are Fleet Marks - nothing else. Why those Nukara, Romulus, Omega, Dyson, Ferengie, Tribble, HelloKitty and whatnot Marks + tons of Commendation Marks, Processors

Just give us Fleet Marks and Rep Marks. Less Grind, more Fun.
Then you can make a Bonus event once a week/Day and let US choose which Zone to play.
Lets face it: hunting ugly Rabbits or slauthering Dinos is simply utterly absurd

    Season 7 Launch Dilithium Changes

    Season 7 Dev Blog #17 - Fallout

Its all goes back to Season Seven.

After Cryptic adjusted the dilithium rewards, due to the fallout, they never once went back to make seasonal adjustments. Cryptic got what they wanted. 'Star Trek: Online' has become a low rewarding system, which heavily relies upon extensive grinding. Its not worth the effort. Around two to three weeks ago, I had Perfect World delete my heavily invested account ($300+ on Zen). I signed up for an entirely new account, and I realized that - I needed to come back, so I can understand why I should not come back.

Between the arrival of Season Five and now, the cost to play 'STO' has practically tripled to quadrupled. Everything from the market exchange, dilithium exchange, duty officers, reputation holdings, reputation stores, fleet stores, and fleet holdings has become way-way too expensive.

As someone who wanted to play casually, I felt that 'Star Trek: Online' has become too much of an expense and grind to continue.

I also noticed that the general mission drops (levels 1-50) stank.

Instead of trying to invest in 'Star Trek: Online', I decided to throw my money into an entirely new game. 'Star Trek: Online' is currently not worth the investment.

Cryptic has pinched the rewards system so badly that it hurts.

I am sticking around the forums in hopes of seeing some serious changes.

I do not think anything will happen.

You know ... It seems to me that we had weekends like this BEFORE the hourly calendar was put into place.

Didn't we get the hourly calendar because the weekend (or mid-day STF event) weren't having the best effect? .... not to mention fleet marks?

Honestly ... I ran Defera ground earilier this morning ourside the power hours to see if it compared. ... and although it adds up, when you are one or two players ... It doesn't = elsewhere in the game.

My thought is this ... the Deferi battle zone needs to be redone to be more similar to the Dyson's sphere one. Same for our Tholian battle ground.

Then ... Give us a choice of marks for the ground maps ... Ie .... for the sphere ... Dyson or Fleet Marks .... Deferi's map ... Omega or Fleet Marks .... Nukara (sp?) those marks or Fleet Marks.

The added bonus ... is it gives you a reason to want to go back AFTER you finish your rep system.

Cryptic does pay attention, and acts when they realize what they've introduced/changed has had an adverse or extremely unpopular reaction from the community.

It doesn't mean that everything YOU might see as bad gets changed, but they do react.

LoR rep rates, times, STF dil level changes etc.... Even UI issues were all corrected within 2 weeks of the complaints being lodged here.

I'm happy this is happening. I'm building up for the proton weapon for the Voth space weapon set.

    1 question though:

Like myself, those players who keep getting disconnected from the server may not get a chance to play for bonus Voth marks.

Any idea if this will be fixed in the next update so that everyone will get a chance to earn Voth marks?

No one seems to be answering my question. Can someone please provide me with a solution - since Monday, I keep getting disconnected at least 10 times within 10 minutes, and if that keeps happening, I will not be able to earn bonus marks (or even normal marks) at one time.

    Anyone?

I haven't returned to the Dyson Space zone since the change. There's no point at all... and this bonus event doesn't entice me to return either. I honestly would have kept doing the space daily even after I was finished with my rep just for the dilithium and dyson mark reward, but meh I honestly don't give a hoot about this at all. Also annoyed with the hourly bonus events going away. If it's just going to be some weekend events going forward I guess I will just stop playing all together during the week. :(

Quite so. I haven't returned to dyson space either. It's moronic content that I only suffered through for the dilithium and the daily token. They removed the dilithium and the token is easily earned through a single run of Breach Elite per day (where i ALSO get 60-70 dyson marks, which I can then turn into 500 dil via rep project). Now that I'm reaching T5 dyson rep on all my toons I won't even bother with Breach daily. I can get more reward elsewhere, and it won't insult my inteligence to earn said rewards. This has got to be the worst decision they ever made... I mean... voth? Really? Freakin' dinosaurs with freakin' lasers on their heads? They even JOKED about it and then made the joke real. It's just sad and pathetic. I want nothing to do with this zone, ground or space. This isn't star trek. You can say that of a lot in this game, but this is so far off into Jurassic Park left-field that it's not even STO anymore.
    sunfrancks wrote: »
Yup agreed. sometimes I think they just do knee jerk decisions without even a second thought to how it actually affects the game.

This is what happens when they only concentrate on metrics.

Was not the first time and wont be the last sadly..

I see you've actually noticed their business model. So have I. Many don't bother paying attention, but this is exactly how they work. They don't play the game. They barely even do any coding anymore. They ship it out from what I recall, and have some place overseas adjust the code for them. Their only purpose now is to figure out how to milk the player base for more money. The current planning involved increasing all dil costs exponentially and reducing all sources of dil income, thus forcing people to buy zen (real world money) to convert to dil for things they otherwise should be able to earn normally. It only shows signs of getting worse, too.

I am not crying foul on this just yet. I for one am hoping this works (that is it is actually playable and not nerfed to hell). Sadly those of the community (myself included) who were screwed out of Sphere due to it being unplayable 99% of the time, need this to try to get some the rewards other players (the non-nerfed majority) are taking for granted. We missed out on Sphere and want a fair shake at it.

Those who don't want/need/care for Sphere don't have to particpate, but don't try to deprive the 'have-nots' from getting their best chance to catch up. One of the few things worse than sore losers are sore winners.

So for now i will thank Cryptic for this second chance, and hope that it works as intended. Those of us that were burned the first time do not care for a repeat of that performance.

Oh man the battlezone with boosted marks drops is ridiculous. Got enough for another 10-15 commendations in two runs. That's a pretty sizable chunk of the rep farming right there in next to no time at all.

Played both "Storming the Spire" and "Breach" yesterday. "Spire" was the most badly broken i've ever seen it! 60% like driving a broken bus through a lake of molasses, 50% rubberbanding/spire-hugging and 0.0001% being able to maeuver normally and/or hit anything.

"Breach" actually worked okay (pleasant surprise) and i did pretty damn good for my 1st time in.

I was disappointed the Advanced Swarmer Hangars were no longer available in "Sphere of Influence". Please bring trhem back! Its not fair i had less than a week of playability before "Sphere" gave way to Winter! As i've stated in other posts i tried playing "Sphere" from day 1 but was trapped by Lag Freeze and could not do a damned thing until that last week! And then only half of the time! I wanted to play thru it on far more than the 3 or 4 chars that i did but it was only on the last one or 2 i found/unlocked the Advanced Swarmers. I would have been very happy with the 'free' versions of the Obelisk Carrier. But now that only the 'Advanced' model is the only one available it'll take forever to get enough Lobi for just 1 char to get! And there are other Lobi Ships higher on the list! Meaning some chars will never get it! I'd really like a FAIR SHOT at getting the 'free' Obelisks, as i DID NOT get a month-plus of ACCESS to the content. I will NOT be happy with your server TRIBBLE me, which is what happened.

Thanks for the Bonus marks weekend Cryptic. Since I loathe the Dyson sphere and knew the bonus weekend would affect the other PvE events, I decided I would give this weekend a miss. This is the first weekend in 4 years that I choose not to play STO. Thanks to you I finally upgraded my sisters graphic and hard drive, as well as reinstalling Windows on her computer. I also got to play a great new PC game. You have also cured me of my STO addicted. To show you how addicted to STO I was I had created a paper hourly event calendar for the whole week, so I knew when I need to play STO. But thanks to the removal of this in Season 8.5 I don't have to worry about when I need to play STO any more. Hope the next Bonus weekends are Romulan or Nukara as I have no interest in them either.

Thanks to this brilliant idea of Bonus weekends and getting rid of the Hourly event calendar I have even less reason to play STO now and more reason to play other PC games. :P

    So, question for the devs...

Once we've reached T5 reputation, why would we bother with Dyson Marks anymore when the Dyson space sets are subpar?

I am not a dev, but...
Also add to the removal of dilithium, and... ... Yours truly hasn't been around the sphere for ages.
I got to T5, I got my (buggy) suit, and are now lacking willpower to do anything than doffing to get some dil, some fleetmarks, and, well, thats that.

Oh, should i also mention that the fleet holding tiers suck blow?
T2 mine holding project... 16000 marks?!?? Fah that.
