Drawing contest - master key and other prizes

If I had to name one thing most valuable about the STO experience, that's most probably the feeling of being inside the Star Trek universe and beside the great characters who live there. I deeply appreciate such a possibility and love the thoughts and feelings this brings.

So, I'd like to start a contest of New Year/Christmas/Winter Celebration/whatever presents to the wonderful Star Trek chracters, and since a material present is hardly an option (particularly for Q, who can create anything anyway), I mean a drawing.

Whatever you feel might be fitting, be it a portrait of the character him(her/it)self, of someone dear to him/her/it, a depiction of a special place or something important and dear to that character - something you could imagine that character hanging on a wall to look at with enjoyment. For instance, perhaps for D'Tan it could be a landscape of New Romulus, the new home - or perhaps Spock's portrait :D Maybe Worf could enjoy a depiction of some Klingon weapons or of an honorable battle, or something else of that kind. Or for Q - what else, a portrait of his own grand self ;)

The minimal prizes are:
3rd place - a winter outfit (or its equivalent in commodities)
2nd place - two winter outfits (or their equivalent in commodities)
1st place - a master key and 100 of each winter commodity, including bells and beads

However, I have more items saved up that I will likely use for the contest if there are many decent entries. Including loads of small encouragement prizes, like scarves, mysterious cookie boxes, equipment packs, mirror ships, blue and purple tribbles, etc. Also there might be more master keys and heaps of winter commodities and perhaps other serious prizes if there are multiple really good entries, it's also not impossible to win multiple keys, more than one contest entry is well allowed and welcomed with open arms.

The deadline is 10.01.2014, a bit before the end of the Winter event just in case. Before Q runs away with all that magic ^_^ Edit: the devs confirmed the Store stays after that and the deadline is extended to 18.01.2014. You might wish to unlock it before that though, got to just go to the Winter Wonderland, the one commodity needed for the store unlock is given there freely.

You can dedicate the drawings to any Star Trek character, not necessarily directly featured or mentioned in STO. You can also explain why you care fr that particular character so much, might get bonus points for that

My in-game handle is my forum name - with a '@', of course.

Glohhaasi' mnekha :)

That's it, I'm going to draw a TRIBBLE for Q to look at. "His own grand self" as it were :P

Good luck to the genuine entries :D

    EDIT

Btw, will you be accounting for differing skill levels between entrants? Many people can draw, but some better than others!
    I need a beer.

I wonder how you're going to get Q to show you...

And if you just guess and it doesn't look to him as good as his own, well, you know Q can do various things :D
Good luck to the genuine entries :D

    Thanks.

This is meant to be an effort of love and care (sounds good after the discussion above) - for the Star Trek characters who are dear to you or important in some way. Trying well, atempting to show that will be at least not less valuable than the actual drawing skill. Explanations about that specific character and why that one feels so worthy or about the drawing topic choice can also add to the whole impression.

Well, my artistic skills and tools alike are too weak to make a difference, but I think most Klingons would appreciate a painting of the player's fight against Fek'Ihr. :P

Infinite possibilities have implications that could not be completely understood if you turned this entire universe into a giant supercomputer.p3OEBPD6HU3QI.jpg

    Aren't the winter commodities bound?
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
Let me put the rumors to rest: it's definitely still the C-Store (Cryptic Store) It just takes ZEN.

They weren't last year. I haven't checked this year, though - but as far as I know, only the Q images and epohh tags are bound. Just like the pearls and eggs in the summer event.

I tried moving them into my account shared bank when the event started... I could'n...

That said... just checked... At least the new ones arent bound.

Don't worry about the skills, as mentioned above, there are other things that matter - like the idea, the effort, the way you care about a Star Trek character :) And there's hardly much harm in trying, and I have many things for potential prizes.

    Certainly it does.

Glad to hear this was figured out. dalolorn, thanks for answering.

So, anazonda, are there any hopes you might enter the contest then, or perhaps can I encourage you in some way? :)

May I ask, who is this meant as a present for? And why, if possible to explain.

As mentioned a few times already, it's about caring for Star Trek characters, not that much about being artistic. And there's hardly harm in trying :)

Any Trek character? Um... I'd say Janeway, cuz it's a science ship.

    Yeah I got nothing else.

(Also I don't recall Janeway having any paintings in her ready room, or at least none as bright as the one I made)

I suck at drawing, so I'll have to abstain from this contest. But it's a cool idea, hopefully, there will be a way to showcase those people that are really good at computer art.

Right, perhaps she won't hang it in her ready room, but she might keep it and appreciate such a present from a fellow Starfleet officer :) Decoration with paintings is one thing, attention and respect are something quite different

It is for the crew of the R.R.W. Aquila, as a stern reminder that their commanding officer is always watching. :D

Same good old question: who is this one for? :)

And please both contact me with the game mail system as well or otherwise let me know your handles. voporak, if I may remind, this includes you as well, asked about this earlier in the thread. I think I better send out some encouragement prizes before the end of the contest for the people to get them sooner and hopefully to get more interest in the contest.

This was a gift for Captain t'Kazanak from Franklin Drake as a reminder that he's always watching her :D

I actually can't play the game, due to lack of a PC... I just entered the comp for the fun, and the excuse to draw Ael's tattoos :o

Lol, about the only things I can draw, are original style colonial vipers, and one-point perspective covered bridges. (And not on a computer either, I can only do them by hand)

Heh, that Frankie is surely a creepy stalker... :D

Feel free to contact me later (if I'm still active in-game then, of course, but likely I will be).

And perhaps can I do something else for you? Maybe draw something on your request in return.

Well, maybe you can do something with that, vipers could be met on many wild planets, bridges are also not uncommon, for instance, like the one on New Romulus - where ruins and the sword were found.

And computer or paper+scanner is not even a question, surely do use whatever suits you.

Soory for not replying in case that was expected, not really sure what to say. Possibly, but I don't know Battlestar Galactica. And generally the thought was that nearly anything can be made into a Star Trek picture, not too easy to name anything that won't fit into Star Trek anywhere :)
