Its not supposed to be a do or die, its supposed to be fun. Im just stateing for the vast amount of players that cannot make an appearance for any amount of time for 25 days for an event slightly longer than a month is by design excluding players that have jobs... Now as far as the having money part... To expect someone to hand it over obscenely is obsurde and takes focus off of the design of the event.

Really? I have a job, 3 kids, family, blah blah. And I fully expect to be able to score 4 of the frigates (main, KDF "main", KDF tac, Fed Engie) with no problems at all. Of course, I've practiced this event enough times last year to be relatively successful at it, so each run only takes a couple of minutes - say 5 from login to logout. (ie, I can have all 4 characters I'm getting this for complete the run in the span of the evening news)...

This is a winter event for fun and game items, not a "can I spend every day of the next month in STO or throw money at something like a fool". I think that anyone else that works will have the same problem. As I'm sure we would all like to be able to participate to that degree but to throw money at an event planned to exclude people that make the money doesnt make sense to me and causes a level of frustration.

Uh, the goal of any "log in X times over Y day" event is a blatant, overt attempt to generate a larger number of "unique" daily logins over a sustained period - which can then be used within the industry to tell everyone else "we actually have a sustainable model, look at how many people are 'playing'". Even then, they don't necessarily want you here "all day" as you claim, but long enough to get your ship pictures and whatever else you feel like hanging out for...

I think that making future events in this manner will be problematic as it by nature excludes the "paying portion" of the player base. I would encourage a method which maybe requires a commitment from the player, amounts of e-creds for example. This would require a commitment from the player as e-creds = players time. Than their level of involvement over time becomes more of an issue than can they make an appointment for 15 minutes for 25 days.

How does this "exclude" the "paying portion" of the playerbase? First off, as they want (need) daily logins right now, the "type" of player, Lifer, Sub, F2P doesn't matter, a logged in player is a player. Of course, if you can't/don't make the 25 logins over 40 days, a lifer/gold subber can spend their 500 zen stipend for the month on a couple of keys and buy missing pictures with Lobi. Anybody else can run over to their local store, buy one of those Universal Game Cards, and get an extra 15% Zen to be used on keys as well. Heck, spend those massive EC reserves you have on keys in the exchange and pop a few dozen lockboxes yourself to get the lobi to buy a ship.

I will not deny that the "buy" method of getting the ship is extremely (prohibitively?) expensive. Again, this is partially by design because the daily logins are actually "worth" a bit more to Cryptic / PWE right now than the $$$ the event would generate.

And on the daily appointment bit? It's not "log in daily right at X:XX." You can actually log in earlier every day if you have to. I tend to run the event shortly after I wake up, and am getting my kids ready for school. However, on the weekends, I sleep in some, but if I run the event before 10 AM Sunday morning, I can still login at 6 AM monday as I'm waiting for my son to wake up...
Detecting big-time "anti-old-school" bias here. NX? Lobi. TOS/TMP Connie? Super-promotion-box. (aka the two hardest ways to get ships) Excelsior & all 3 TNG "big hero" ships? C-Store. Please Equalize...

    Cryptic,

Ideas for the winter event next year.

    Events:
    1) Cross country ski trail - (could function similar to the Risa Floater event done daily) runs on the outskirts of the map.
    2) downhill sleigh/ski competition
    3) Polar bear swim

    Fleet ideas:
    1) Gather supplies, to build a log cabin. Each year, new possible additions are added to unlock.

    Other non-event things to do:
    1) Horse drawn sleigh ride that goes around the map. You can jump on, or off the sleigh at buy running up to it. When on sleigh you simply sit, and view the scenery.
    2) Large central fire, that has logs you can sit on, similar to the Risa beach chairs.
    3) Rotate, like rise, a day & night cycle. (Night cycle cold have snow angels come to life, as an event?)

    Items:
    1) Hats
    2) gloves
    3) belts

This I like, a lot. Evil snow angels...that sound more awesome than laser dinosaurs.

I like this idea but no for the fleet idea its got to the point now where people have got sick of grinding for fleet supplies and have even given up, left the game, or joined a bigger fleet. Instead of a horse drawn sleigh maybe a ski lift that can take you to the ski jump slope

This one recipe in the winter invasion seems stupid. Everyone just starts running and whoever is the luckiest and runs to the right place gets the recipe.

I agree with the recipe. Now, I get almost all the recipes but it is truly unfair/stupid design to have to compete like that.

There should be 5 gifts on the map in different spots, one for each player that only they can pick up. That way everyone (who wants to) gets a recipe and there's no need to race past everyone to get it...

Digging through snowballs to obtain rewards was better.

I like winter wonderland in general.

I don't like the race for the Spaceship. I can either stay on the tack and lose to to the faster moving competitor, or go fast and right off the track. I hate that I have no way to modify to get better traction, and there for getting better speed. As it is, this is the first content that they have presented that has so frustrated and updet me that I have stopped playing. And seriously consider not playing at all till the event is over.

I would like it better if they would just give me the reward for completing the race, not winning the race. For those that are finishing the race maybe they can get a bonus reward. Like more pics or maybe the recipe's. Or possibly a choice of some sort. That way there is an incentive to win, but at least playing for the fun of the race will be rewarded too.

Just my thoughts. I know that I just don't have the actual ability to complete the race as it stands. And I hate to lose out on something just because I only lack this one skill.

But "The Fastest Game on Ice" is easy. Whenever you hit a turn jump and stop pressing the movement controls. Jumping will momentarily stabilize you and allow you to make a sharper turn!

In my experience, the Races are more about control than speed; going for speed alone was how i fouled up my early races last year. You can 'brake' in a second or two by releasing whichever button you're using for forward movement. But if you need to stop fast, a sharp change of direction, like L/R or backwards, usually does the trick. I use the 'run fast' in strategic bursts, not all-out for the duration.

Also, i don't follow every curve of the track; i run the course as a series of point-to-point dashes, moving in straight lines. The floating markers are better references than where the snow meets the ice on the track. Another thing i've started doing this year, was longer bursts of speed, making a turn like 2-3 meters/yards early, so my momentum changes when i get to the turn instead of carrying me off the course. You might want to try that bit last though, once you've gotten a feel for the rest.

I hope this helps you and others as much as it has helped me and my friends & fleetmates!

T6 Nova/Rhode Island, T6 Oberth & T6 Constellation are needed. Also needed a T6 Science Cruiser, that can wear any Science or Cruiser skin.

What's the deal with the recipes in the Gingerbread colony? I've done this mission several times and a message has come up that I've found a recipe, but it never shows up in my inventory. Is there some secret to this that I'm missing??

It should be resolved in today's patch :) Though, you'll need to interact with the hidden present to get the recipe each run.

Where the hell is trixian bubble juice for the wonderland chef recipe???

Telling me "any chef worth their salt" doesn't help at all.

I visited my in-ship chef, looked at the menu, see nothing.

I checked the bartender there, nothing.

I looked up on the STO wiki, it talks about the DS9 tv show and how it was there, so I go to Quark's, nothing.

I check ESD club bar, nothing.

The only unhelpful and unwanted response was buy it on the exchange.

PFFffft! Why should I have to buy something for a fun winter event from a player, probably much more than I could IF it were on an NPC as it should be?!

Still struggling with winter event, trying to catch up. The aforementioned issues come and go but that they still persist is an extreem annoyance and disappointment.

That said i applaud Cryptic for cracking down on the trolls that would grief racers with snowblowers at the turns.

    Thank you.
