Lobi Item Suggestion:Ship part visual unlock.

dahminusdahminus Member Posts: 0 Arc User
EDIT: Could I get a mod to change the title to "Suggestion:Ship part visual unlock." The thread would get more attention if people new what the lobi request actually is without coming into the thread.

I would like to propose the idea of buying a "set visual device" that allows you to "wear" a ship set in place of the currently equipped set.

For example, I have the full assimilated set equipped, I buy and equip the an "aegis visual device" and now it appears I have the aegis looks. But I have the assimilated stats and bonuses .

Simple rules could be...

Only one of these devices may be equipped at a time.

The items effects will overwrite current visuals

You would need to acquire the set, in order to buy the device (people spending more dil, so perhaps more zen as well)

So, community? What do you think...enough support could get this implemented. :D

It would be a cool idea.

I use different sets on each toon, but do like the look of other sets.

Plus it would TRIBBLE with the PvP people lol. :D

Technically, you can wear different ship "costumes" if you pay the requisite amount of GPL rather than lobi. But those are actual ships rather than costume variants.

My big question to you would be: where/how would you equip these items on your ship? If not, then that's some inventory space you'd have to set aside, and we all know there's a large potential for inventory-upkeep problems right now.

The idea was for a device slot

Don't some other MMOs do this as a matter of course, no special purchase required?

I don't want this to be a Lobi store purchase, but...

Obtaining any set (Breen, MACO, Jem'Hadar, etc, etc) should allow you to unlock the shield's visual as a material in the tailor. As a purchase, or a rep unlock, whatever.

I suggested this idea about a month ago. Community didn't seem to interested. Of course is would live to see them add this as a feature, instead of bought item.

I feel that this capability would be something the lobi consortium would be able to sell. Plus it has potential to produce revenue for cryptic thus, getting their attention. Perhaps.

Hopefully more people show support. I hardly see aegis visuals anymore and as more sets come in. More sets will be forgotten.

I am far mor interested in getting a set, and then being able to use it as a "Skin" in the ship tailor.

I really like the visual effects of certain sets, but i don't want to use gear fro a ship that isnt optimal for my builds.

I would like options for changing Deflector, Nacelles, and Shields using sets i have without having to actually use the set. Rocking out say, M.A.C.O. shields and deflector with Breen engine visuals.

And i believe i commented on the last months post, but i miss a few here and there.

As for it being a Lobi device i have to say no, A zen unlock yes. Pay [blank] amount of Zen to unlock set visuals in the tailor. Simply add to the advanced tab, under that tab it lists all the sets piece by piece and you can mix and match. As you obtain a set it unlocks in the tailor.

good idea but why not improve the ship costumization with a greater variety of colors for the ships parts for starters and then unlock the visuals from the sets when you gain them and customize your ships look at will.
i would like to fly my ship with the reman shield visual and the borg deflector and engine visual or some other combination, it would add much variety to the ships looks, because as it is now starfleet should be renamed to grey fleet.

Vaild the Imperials in Star Wars would look at these ships and say well now thats what i call drab and boring looking. At least we can paint our whole ship....

Yup. As long as the item that creates the look is equipped at least once the costume option is unlocked and available.

I agree with this, it gets tiring when you HAVE to use this set or that set and you're stuck with 1. No visuals at all or 2. Visuals you may like, but you want X visuals more.

While the op's idea sounds good, I'd like to build on it by saying that ship hull and shield visuals should be completely customizable. Personally I'd like a crimson shield with the maco effect on a chrome hull.

Space sets unlocking new parts in ship tailor would be the best idea. Like having shield bound to your character unlocks its texture overlay in tailor.

I like Breen set visuals, but it's motballed in my bank since this set now is too weak for use. I'd love to be able to use it's visuals with different equipment.

A realistic thought about this, however...

How back end difficult would it be to make it work. It might require a total revamp of the entire ship customization system and the equippable system.

Knowing what I know about how games are written generally, that could be a nightmare in the programming department. Changing a few things in a database is one thing, this could require literally rewriting half of the functions related to ship appearance. Where they call from, what asset they use, where they use it, how it scales, etc and so on.

Doesnt sound like fun from a developmental perspective O_o

We have the option to turn on visuals, why couldn't it be an act of turning on a device?

The GPL holo emitters change the appearance of any ship...ground work may all ready be in place

I quite like the idea myself however, if this were to be implemented, would the character need to own the gear (for example Aegis set) or would it just need to be on the account? (giving way to Fed/scorts running honour guard visuals and vice versa)

    My $.2;

I would love to have this option, though changed slightly. We already have the costume rep projects for ground gear. (Omega, MACO, Adapted MACO/Honor Guard) So, following that line of thinking.. do exactly the same thing as that for ships and reputation sets. The same system could then be tweaked so non rep sets like Jem'Hedar and Aegis (Aegis being my go-to set, even with T5 Omega atm) can be used in a similar manner.

For Aegis and such, the Costume project would be under the Special/Events reputation system; requiring the pieces of each set, some Dilithium, and some EXP for their project. Said pieces would be returned upon completion of the project.

Granted, the use of Dilithium there is subject to debate. I say that simply to put them in line cost wise with the standing ground rep costumes.

Once acquired, the costumes would be able to be applied to the owners vessel via a "part option" EG; Aegis Saucer, Jem'Hedar Hull ect. For engine visuals, it would be a "simple" matter of adding in an option as such into the standing ship-parts customisation. EG; Standard Engine, Aegis Engine.

Paint and Materials would remain unaffected this way, and it could (or not) give the ability to mix and match the various set visuals on one vessel.

How about a ridiculous factor of the Rep projects requiring the actual set pieces to fill...therefore you need to buy them for the custome and again for the stats

Sounds good but wouldn't spend real world money on it, make it like Tera online where you can use an item as a template for the visuals on another item.

If your talking about my post, read again. :) Set pieces would be returned after the project is done. Or, returned after they are "contributed."

before thinking about what to spend lobi on that is usually quite hard to get hold of but that already has some great gear how about some half decent stuff to spend gold pressed latinum on I have over 350k of that on one character and almost 1000000 on all 3 characters together.
theres hardly any good stuff you can buy with latinum only some half baked stuff that costs loads and burns out as you use it, that's unless you want a million copies of the ferengi rules of acquisition.

When I think about everything we've been through together,

maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,

and if that journey takes a little longer,

so we can do something we all believe in,

I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.

Would be cool. I love the visuals of the Jem Hadar set for example but I'm certainly not going to run that on my ship when I've unlocked MkXII Borg gear.

I would love to be able to turn off the visual look of added equipment. Changing it would also be a nice idea but you should have that equipment in order to change it.

You mean like being able to right-click an equipped Mark XI Jem'Hadar shield and disable its visual effects? (Because we can already do that.)

That actually, would be kind of nice. Especially for the rep sets, have it as a costume unlock, similar to the MACO & Omega armour visuals for your character, that's already in place.
For the other "story" sets, probably would end up as a purchase, unless they wanted to shohorn it in as a "special" rep project.
