Zen ship to buy?

Hey guys,

Asking you guys for some help!

I've bought the Armitage quite a time ago (christmas last year) and I have been using it modified ? la akira style together with my Breen ship. I'm a tac guy so.:D

With the autumn sale, it's time for a new one!

Which ship is good for me? I mostly use cannons mixed with a dual beam bank. (reason breen and armitage)

I was thinking otherwise to buy a scimitar for my rom character but my main and important character is still Fed!

    Hey macrilen!

I would probably go for an Andorian Escort. Preferable the Kumari.

    Greetings

Well i will be honest, if you buy a ship that is part of a 3-pack, go full monty and get the Full 3-pack. Worst Buyer's Remorse is buying only part of a 3-pack and then wanting the rest, or even one of the Others. Now you have Spent 50 for 2 or 75 for 3, when you could have had all 3 for 50.

Thats the best advice i can Give you, but the Avenger is a pretty nifty ship, can Equip cannons, yadda yadda.
Inertia just means you can do Powerslides in you carrier!
I am Il Shadow and i approve these Shennanigans!

Yeah the avenger isn't included in the sales :(

I took the armitage and the breen because if i would have an engineer as a fed, i still can use those ships. (reason no galaxy or galaxy x or so..) Avenger is also one of the ships i'm thinking of.

Aside from the Avenger, I say you can't go wrong with the Vesta line (3-pack or otherwise). They're still some of the best, most versatile ships in the game and have a ton of unique features, like the Auxiliary Cannons and the Hangar Bay.

For Romulans, the Scimitar pack is certainly an experience, and skilled players have turned it into a real beast.

Just don't equate power or "OP-ness" with size, though, because if you're expecting to start becoming a winner just because you bought a fancy ship, you're in for a disappointment. Nearly every ship, the Scimitar line in particular, needs a good build to maximize its potential.

The Ar'Kif and Ar'Kala tactical warbirds are also an interesting option for players dissatisfied with the currrent Tier 5 choices available to level 50 romulans. They're hard-hitting pure escorts with additional fighter backup and look pretty good. Also the best Quad Cannons in the game.

For the KDF, your choices are more limited thanks to neglect on Cryptic's part, but the Kar'Fi carrier is a good choice for tactical carrier variants, and it looks great. The B'Rel Retrofit is a unique boat, but may disappoint if you're not into "torpedo-bombing". The Scourge Destroyer will give you access to a favorite KDF console: The Plasmonic Leech, and the Phalanx and Varanus are the closest KDF have to a pure science vessel.

The Bortasque behaves differently to most KDF standard strategies, but it's a beauty of a ship if you're willing to bend a bit to accomodate its idiosyncracies.

I did in the beginning mostly pvp. So i know a thing or two about building.

And i agree with you ;)

    Scimitar for Rommie it is.

Vesta or avenger... mmmh, but I always had the feeling that the vesta was more science orientated.

So, for a Tac Captain, which way would you go?

    Vesta 3-pack or Andorian 3-pack?

I'm thinking the Vesta and use the Recon Explorer hull.

The only downside is that the weapons are only 3f/3a, whereas the Andorian is 5f/2a.

defiant retro is a great escort and even if its a standard it has a cloak.

btw are you in a fleet? the sale is ok but as most ships on sale are 1700 zen your only going to need 300 more to get a fleet ship. even at T1 shipyard the fleet patrol escort is a beast of a ship. you also said you own a escort carrier so if your in a fleet with a high shipyard the fleet version will only cost you 500 zen.

Well, it does fall into the catergory of sci ship.. though it has a sci, tac and Eng variant making it amongst the most versatile ships in the game. You can't really go far wrong with it to be honest, and it's en-par with Fleet ships too.

I'm in a fleet, and we are high end!

Don't have lots of Fleet energy credits though :p

    Vesta or Avenger.

Avenger however on paper seems to be way better?

Avenger is more an offensive boat in my opinion, while the Vestas are multi purpose Vessels. Very versatile and adaptable to different situations.

I'm looking for a new boat for my Tac too, these days. But I'm trying to get an Fleet Advanced Escort.

The only nitpicking I have on her is:

    Hull
Three forward and aft weapon slots. Very very low..

That's what's bringing the Kumari back in game.

More hull (but less shield) ... and 5 fwd weapons (+5 tac consoles)

BUT... the Kumari won't take as much damage as the Vesta because of the Boff layout.

    Pffffff

This is damn hard... Why can't Cryptic make all-round ships?? A ship that you can use if you configure it right to be a engineer ship, or science ship or tactical ship.. (that you can drag your science slots to engineering or tactical)

The thing is, The kumari is a great ship but somehow its less than my armitage.. (it has four forward and three aft and the K. has five front and two aft). The rest is identical.

The Avenger is for me too expensive..

The only ship that can get my 2500zen is the scimitar.. But its romulan :(

that would be the Vesta actually in the picture and speaking of vesta it is an awesome general purpose ship it can hammer out damage when needed, crowd control, heal in a big way, become a tank she is essentially a swiss army knife in STO you just have to figure out what you want her to do.

I would probably just upgrade to the Fleet HEC. It is a damn fine ship, and is one of my personal go to ships along side my Fleet MVAE :D

I'd agree with this. The fleet version just improves an already fine ship and is a cheaper option :)

That said I'd also have to agree with those that favor the Vesta 3 pack. I currently only fly it on a sci toon but I'm thinking about setting up an engineering version. ooohhh hours of lovely tinkering :) Its a VERY versatile ship.

    Upgrade to Fleet HEC? Meaning?

So buy the vesta and then buy it with fleet modules as a fleet ship?

The charal (sp?) Variant may fix that with an extra engineer.

I'll add another vote for the Kumari.

With cutting beam and/or turrets and if you get the platform console you can have 8f weapons.

Not including random 1 shot kills it is quite capable of survivng elite PVEs if boffs are done right.
Well excuse me for having enormous flaws that I don't work on.

No the Heavy Escort Carrier has a fleet version. You already own the c-store version so you don't need as many fleet modules to get the fleet version :)

As far as I know theres no fleet version of the Vesta....yet.

As an owner of kumari pack, vesta pack and the avenger, lets just say you won't regret any of them. Just make sure u can dish out 500zen/5-6mil EC more if u do buy avenger because u would want to make it into a fleet avenger asap.

They all do come with their own perks and situational roles though, and you should be aware of what role u want and go for the corresponding ship.

I'd suggest the Regent, it's part of the sale, although it can't mount dual heavies, it's a fine beam boat and also a beast of a tank.

You also get the wide angle quantum as standard and the Riker maneuver as a console

3-pack ships don't get Fleet variants.

Question: What is the difference between a regular t5 ship and a fleet ship?
Answer: A t5 ship that has 10 console slots in total instead of traditional 9.

      Vesta

Has 10 console slots? Check ✔

+1 to suggest the Charal, or 3 pack if you can stretch to it.

Shes a fine ship, hits like a truck whilst also being more agile than the avenger. She can take a hit too thanks to 4 eng consoles and a second ensign Eng.

Also, if you fancy a change on your tac fed, have you considered an excelsior? The fleet version had 4 Tac consoles and Lt.Cmdr slot. I imagine itd be a nice change of pace from a DHCscort whilst still being well suited to a Tac. The excelsior is also relatively inexpensive, 1700 zen on sale.

The Defiant is also 1700 zen and has the cloak console, which can also be used on the Avenger.

Also, unlike the Avenger, they're both pretty ships. Just my two cents.

On a related note, have you considered picking up some lower tier ships for the special unlocks, like costumes/weapons/consoles? Particularly KDF side, now is the time to pick up the Dacoit (for Orion Interceptors) and Vandal (for Plasmonic Leech).

Fed side there arent any lower tier hangar pets and the consoles arguably arent as worthwhile as their KDF counterparts but there are still some possible options. The Oberth in particular is dirt cheap and has a nice console, as does the Thunderchild. Graviton Pulse on the Gladius and AMS on the Galaxy refit are also nice.

The beauty of this is that the toys from these can be used on properly aligned Roms as well. Worth it if you've got zen left over after the T5 purchase IMO.

Really it all depends on your zen reserves and how many characters you want to use the unlocks on.

Not that I can get in to take advantage because of S8 crashing for 16 days now. ARRGGHHH.
