In my case, it's been almost 12 days since last time I PvP'ed. I'm currently playing the stare-at-the-desktop-while-sto-crashes-on-me game now.
Did they suggest uninstalling, installing Arc, and taking it from there?
I still launch STO from its own launcher...but I do have Arc installed for launching CO (sometimes it's just fun to go there and punch things in the face...heh).
Who ultimately suffers from this? The PvE people, who just want to have fun playing the game, but have to wonder each time they log in, just what's gonna happen when they execute their favorite abilities.
lol... These people need to reevaluate their priorities if, they're suffering from anxiety over what they might find upon logging into an MMO.
Particularly an MMO that is as easy as STO.
Just finished our intra-fleet PvP for the night. Everyone involved had a blast.
Still PvPing despite the pain. What's the point of doing end game but to prepare for PvP. I mean I can hardily get excited about grinding gear to do roflstomp easy Voth content. Or should I be excited that cubes in Ker'rat get their HP and damage boosted thus perpetuating the grind wheel ( grind => gear => buff npc => grind => gear ... )
Oh wait I forgot about Nightmare Mode STF with enhanced invisi-torpedoes that crit for 1 million damage.
"With the first link, the chain is forged. The first speech censored, the first thought forbidden, the first freedom denied, chains us all irrevocably."
Not really. Whenever I am on, TD is dead, and OPVP is almost always dead. Add that to running into premades with ineffective teammates, a connection that frequently acts up, wating forever for queues to pop, and the latest battery bug, and PvP at the moment is too frustrating for me.
I am mostly just logging in to get daily lobi and daily sphere commendations at the moment.
Gave up on PvP shortly after A2B gained massive popularity. The lack of variety in builds totally killed the environment.
As I see it you have 3 choices to be competitive in PvP.
1: JHAS, Defiant, Corvette or other 100 degree per second turn escort.
2: Scispam in an attempt to grind said escorts to a halt so they can be hit.
3: A2B+FAW+APB+DEM+Marion cruiser in hopes that 10k+ DPS can carry the day.
As a fan of all sorts of competitive games variety is the spice of life. The current PvP environment is as bland as white bread.
I don't visit the "PvP threads". I visit the "recently posted threads". Here's how PvP works. Someone finds a formula that pretty much crushes everthing else out there. The number of people who catch on to this grows exponentially, with every match, until finally most, if not, everybody is doing it. Inevitably, this rubs a certain portion of the PvP population the wrong way, as their formally, super-duper builds, aren't quite so super-duper anymore. For all that time, and marks spent on purple 12s, and to be handily defeated by someone just rhythmically firing off batteries? Unacceptable. They cry foul to Cryptic, who in turn either nerf, or remove that ability entirely from the game. The PvP thinkers come up with something new, and the cycle starts all over again. Who ultimately suffers from this? The PvE people, who just want to have fun playing the game, but have to wonder each time they log in, just what's gonna happen when they execute their favorite abilities. PvP is never gonna be balanced, because life isn't balanced. It's full of advantages, and disadvantages. Luck of the draw, quick and the dead, fortune favors the bold, adapt or go extinct, all I'm sayin'.
A lot of people don't pvp because of abilities that are overpowered being spammed on them constantly, when PVPers ask for stuff to be balanced it helps in making PVP accessible to more of the community.

*chuckles* Shame that the rest of the STO community doesn't see it that way. Instead we're just 'evil PvPers evilly trying to get every evil thing we hate to fight against nerfed into the ground because we evilly don't want to adapt'.
I remain empathetic to the concerns of my community, but do me a favor and lay off the god damn name calling and petty remarks. It will get you nowhere.
I must admit, respect points to Trendy for laying down the law like that.

Now now Mimey, don't lump all non PvPers together, some of us do want balance and dislike PvE players claiming something doesn't matter because it's a PvP problem just as much as when PvPers say certain things are balanced because it's balanced in PvP and no-one cares about PvE.
There's something about this new season that seems to, I dunno, causing a general feeling of meh. You can see it in the PvP forums about PvP being neglected and people are leaving, big names too.
Even my mostly PvE fleet has seen more people logging in but less actual playing. Before we would have games going on all the time, tons of teaming etc. Now people just seem to be logging in, getting the joint command commendation, getting the lobi and then just chatting.
Currently I spend more time chatting than playing because...meh. Big balance problems in PvP and PvE that instead of treating the cause we're treating the symptoms.

Though in seriousness, I do agree. I do have that same feeling of 'meh' more. I mean, I'm still logging in every day pretty much, but the desire to play isn't as strong.
You are right, honestly, the balance issues, I've started to come to feel, are actually WORSE in PvE. Cryptic has their PvE as their bread-and-butter. So that is what they focus on. They also try and focus this game on being 'casual'. The problem is that they are also making it easier and easier the more you grind. The grind is longer and more boring, but the game doesn't get harder.
I guess Cryptic thinks that 'casual = easy'. When it couldn't be further from the truth. Yes, some casual games ARE easy, but not all easy games are casual games. Like I consider Minecraft to be an easy, and a casual game since I can play it whenever, do some stuff, set it aside, and play it again later on. But I consider Super Mario Bros 3 to be easy as well, but it isn't any kind of 'casual' game.
So all this power creep I'm guessing is really put in just so folks can enjoy beating the game without needing to worry about being 'good' so to say. I guess in some way they are trying to make it so that gear is the deciding factor in PvE, and not as much skill, or in other words, they want to keep it 'fun' for as many folks as possible without those folks needing to worry about the game being overly hard.
I mean seriously, think about how many people would flip out if they added even a basic TT and EPTS cycle to every enemy ship. People already say some enemies like the Borg Queen are hard due to that alone.
Ironically enough though, my fleet is booming. About to start hitting tier 5 on both Fed and KDF before the end of the year, have plenty of folks on all the time, etc.
I remain empathetic to the concerns of my community, but do me a favor and lay off the god damn name calling and petty remarks. It will get you nowhere.

At the moment... not very much, i am just discovering what season 8 is offering. Ground PVP was already something i did very infrequently. Two reasons: i prefer flying my ships and the cheques are deserted in any case. Usually you won't find me in PVP matches but in warzones.
To rekindle interest in ground PVP i think it needs to have more impact on gameplay. It needs better rewards. Ground PVE missions gives rather high rewards actually. If you would offer a substantial substantial Dilitium reward (lets say something in the 1600-1800 region), that should take care of interest.
Wich brings me to the next point...
A structurized (including space) PVP environment:
PVP means (for me) in the most cases warzones. And warzones are pretty good frequented. Why is that? Because of the rewards. You can farm there and it pays of big time. Yes, its risky and thats why people team up - i can't blame them, its the sensitive thing to do.
So you go two types of players there. People who are out for a brawl and people who are out for profit. And i love it. Especially because its not a clearly defined line: people may look for a brawl to dominate the warzone for farming in all tranquility and people may be dragged into brawling instead of farming wich was the original plan. No, it isn't always fair but that is life.
Its dynamic. Its intense. It works.
But you know what? Its also always the same map. Ten maps cycling after mission completion would do so much good here. But even better would be introducing a strategic element to warzones. Like a faction wide reward for controlling a warzone.
Kinda like the Dyson groundzone, just PVP.
Nimbus was nice but in the end there is simply not that much to do there. Encourage the conflict and make it worthwhile and then improve on it.
Even better would be a complete strategic campaign players could participate in against each other with diverse locations and diverse mission profiles. Yes, i would like that.
But don't split up the players. Always bring them together. Very important. Don't do isolated instances. Always create piles of activity.
And you know what? You could even throw in events as special locations/mission profiles in there.
And things could be further spiced up by introducing missions with more than the usual two factions setup. Based on how much players are currently playing you could let factions team up and fight each other. To much players on one side? Throw them in a pirate faction against wich others have to fight or even unite.
A practical example: 5 Klingons vs 11 Federation
Federation has to escort a transport (5 Feds)
Klingons have to destroy the transport (4 Klinks)
Pirates have to capture it (1 Klink and four Feds)
Whoever makes it gets 400 Dilitium. Or a rare weapon or whatever.
etc, etc
That being said what i also would like to see is not doubleslotting of abilities but MORE abilities for space combat. Have you ever built a cannon-only ship and pondered about what barely useful ability you can slot in the first two levels. Especially in the tactical department, when NOT using torps and you got multiple tactical stations? Engineering?
We need more space abilities, especially in the lower tier region. Yes consoles are fine but thats a fairly limited selection here.
More maps, more divesified abilities to choose from and a game mechanic that is actually encouraging, thats what would breathe new life in PVP. Not a few changes on some consoles. Give us some room to breathe. Give us purpose.
There is a reason why Ker'rat is so frequented. Build on that and don't abandon it.
But...but Bpharma...We're 'evil PvPers'! We evilly want things our way!

Yeah I agree and certainly the bit about PvE being even more unbalanced. Which DPS channels have you been running with now? I mean I tend to run with 11k and things are just done so fast there's no challenge. Thing is there's no place for tanking stuff, no place for debuffs outside of the horrendous tactical debuff APB3.
No place for a science ship and control, just nothing needed at all but dps which really shows up the differences in captain classes and even ships in killing power.
I guess Cryptic thinks that 'casual = easy'. When it couldn't be further from the truth. Yes, some casual games ARE easy, but not all easy games are casual games. Yeah sadly a lot of people do flip out about it, seen it happen. I still call BS on the Voth Bulwark keeping up the invulnerability shield when I have drained all their power to 0 (stops firing, shields offline and not moving) but I guess it's one rule for the ruled, one rule for the rulers. Though they pose as little threat as the borg tbh, same super hard hits hurt but play it smart or DPS through it and yeah, same thing as borg really just DPS through it.
Funny you mention Queenie, she's not so hard if you know what to look for, she's got some stupidly hard hitting attacks I will give people that but nothing that can't be avoided or solved by a bit of cross healing, but then folks aren't taught that. I mean we've all been in a pug at some point dishing out heals where needed but when we need it do we get it?
The bright ones even know what their team is using in heals and knows full well that they have it off CD and could use it. It's why I don't really call it a team game, it doesn't promote teamwork, we got more chances of the pope promoting contraception than STO promoting teamwork.
Ironically enough though, my fleet is booming. About to start hitting tier 5 on both Fed and KDF before the end of the year, have plenty of folks on all the time, etc.
Yeah my fleet still is going strong, just less people logging in and running together and more people doing their own thing, ya know?
We've been T5 for a while in shipyard and we're about 40-50 days from getting T5 Science and Engineering on our Fed...KDF is gonna take a lot longer lol. I beleive you have @sonulinu on your friends list, if we beat you to T5 on anything don't hesitate to ask for an invite

I'm still only with 5k DPS, haven't managed to join any of the others yet. Been busy, and haven't managed to get about 7.7k DPS or so. Maybe it's partially laziness, maybe I still have too many of a 'PvP mindset' and only use stuff like APA when I need it, not anytime it is up.
Indeed, it's APB 3 or go home it feels like. Even just sticking with 5k DPS channel folks, it's a quick slam through everything. Heck, just running through with fleet mates, who are getting more into much of what the DPS folks are doing, it's just SO much easier. I wonder how it will even be in a few weeks when we start seeing fleet tac consoles and the extra DOFF slot.
Quite. The Voth do cheat a bit, and can be resilient against a group who don't know what they are doing, but that's about it. Heck, even if you don't care, you can just power creep it up if you want and spam em with bleedthrough stuff and even cheese em with GPG, Isos, etc. NPCs don't care, which in a way, is worse than doing it in PvP, because it really doesn't matter, nobody is gonna fuss.
I figured the Queen would be a good example since I've seen so many people say that she is difficult. Maybe at first, but eventually it isn't that bad if you just know what to look for. She still has the same predictable AI the rest of the game does.
Though interestingly enough, I find more challenge out of ground PvE than I do PvP. Yes yes, people can tear through the ground STFs and such effortlessly, but while I don't have the skills on the ground as I do in space (beaten everything ground-related at least once except Hive Ground elite), I find ground more challenging. It also has a lot less TRIBBLE to spam and such compared to space. I mean, at most on the ground you have 2 weapons, 1 shield, 1 armor, 4 devices, and a kit (without swapping anything). Compared to ships with up to 8 weapons, a shield, a deflector, a warp/singularity core, engines, up to 4 device slots, and up to 10 consoles, PLUS stuff that doesn't even need to be equipped on a ship to be used.
Yeah, I got him on my friend list still. My fleet is about 2 weeks roughly from finishing tier 5 engineering on the Fed side, and possibly have the upgrade done before the new year. Tier 5 military on the KDF side will probably happen before the year's end, and the upgrade finish sometime in January. So we will probably beat you to those.

This is the last thing I will post.
I don't believe in your silly Emperor. THIS is my Emperor: http://asset-6.soup.io/asset/1988/1019_60fa.jpeg :P
