Does the majority of new (PVP) players have a sufficiently advanced fleet? The current idea behind gear (and boff) recommendations is that everything is essentially solo-able in a moderate amount of time (and in the case of Borg/MACO gear, it's a good idea to get these rep systems up to at least T4 anyway).
I still haven't found time to update the guide, but it is my intention to provide something like a gear progression recommendation for the builds, something like "Paratrinic -> MACO -> Elite Fleet" or "PlaDis -> Fleet Advanced/Elite" or "nothing -> Leech". This could be a way to give a wider array of options without getting into a "you have to weigh the pros and cons" that I want to avoid.
Is there a way to get three blue or two purple damage control doffs from reliable singleplayer sources? I know one can get one blue and one purple from the replicator by levelling up the doff system. If there was a way to do this, I could consider suggesting 100%-uptime multi EPtX-builds as a "progression" for the boff seating.
(Space) Traits is something that I intend to do, Romulans is doubtful for the time being since I don't have a Romulan myself.
Also keep in mind: It is not the THG's intention to provide explanations why something works, it only gives simple "do this and you will perform okay" advice.
hi hilbert just a quick one: yes to dmg control doffs, and also advanced fleet gear (not elite). Most of vets didn't bother with it since we already had maco and stuff. I m fully on board with your intention behind the guide.
Let's get on TS one of these days and we can talk about some details. My gear thing is very long since i tried to cover a lot of ground on purpose. If some of the basics that hold true for all classes, ships etc. would go into THG, that would make my life easier as well.

I realize this guide is a little over a year old, but I'm interested in referring to it for my ship build. unfortunately, when I click on the > Spec at STO Academy < link in the guide it results in a blank entry at STO Academy.
Is there any way I can view the ship and skill builds from this guide?
The ship builds are on the webpage itself, only the spec is at STO academy. So you simply have to follow the link and then select the "Skill Tree" tab.

I have been having trouble with THG spacebar.txt not working since Season 8 was implemented on 12, NOV 2013. I have double checked and triple checked all my spacebar.txt scrip coding and can not get any of the spacebar.txt commands to function as they did for the last 12 months since I started using THG back in Nov 2012.
I even tried a uninstall of all Cryptic/PWE STO game client files, completed a AVAST pre-launch windows (Boot Scan) and a Windows post launch (Deep Scan), ran a multi-sweep CCleaner, and manually cleaned/cleared Internet Options Browsers, IE-10 and Google Chrome, ran a Windows Disk Clean, as well as a Defrag, on both primary and secondary hard drives. Manually updated Windows7 Ultima 64 SP1 as well as manually updated all drivers for all installed software & hardware applications.
Tried to Reinstall Cryptic STO game client but could not relocate it at the old Cryptic STO website. It seems that PWE has relocated the STO game client install download to the PWE ARC system, so after re-installing STO game client from the PWE ARC website, I am still at a NO GO STATUS on THG spacebar.txt srip code not working.
If you could reply with any advice and assistance would be a great help. Thank you in advance for your considerations in these regards.
