You find all these endless build threads too complicated? You are overwhelmed by contradictory advice from other players? You don't want to have to consider tons of different aspects? You simply want a build that works?
Here is the solution:
The Hilbert Guide - A cookie cutter approach to PVP
One escort build, one cruiser build. Which ship to fly, which gear to get, which BO abilities to use, how to spec your captain and how to setup your keybinds. No "you could do A, but not unless you also want B - otherwise it would be better to go with a mix of C and D". Just a simple "build this and fly it".
As a bonus there is a PvEscort build that will get your character - no matter whether Sci, Eng or Tac - through the STFs and other PVE content as fast as possible.
(A science ship build might come at a later point - or not at all.)
Version History:- 2012-11-17: changed gear suggestions to reduce dilithium cost of the sample builds and added a new section about gear to adress some of the changes in S7
- 2012-09-21: the THG is now available at hilbertguide.com
- 2012-08-03: the "Fleet Escort" is now called "Patrol Escort"
- 2012-06-20: changed the PvEscort's weaponry to phasers (no need to change your weapons if you have the previous setup)
- 2012-05-14: added a PvEscort build for STFs, added some "Pro-Tips" for optional BO layouts that are not available from the BO trainer
- 2012-04-14: made minor adjustments to the spec (no need to respec if you have the previous version) and the cruiser console setup
- 2012-04-06: added a short Doff section and some fancy graphics
- 2012-03-03: initial version

Your Ramming Speed III deals 52098 (99235) Kinetic Damage(Critical) to Remus.
Thanks for your help.

You need to make sure that the file is saved correctly as "spacebar.txt". So if you have hidden file extensions (the Windows default setting), you don't need to add ".txt" to the filename when you save it, otherwise you will create a file that is actually called "spacebar.txt.txt" on the file system level.
Thank you and thanks for your understanding.
the hilbert guide cant help me. that rubbish.
*logs on to tac kitty carrier*
pew pew!
dude i was so just joking.
I know /10char
I'm using your cruiser build
Which do you recommend?
The MACO shield is under "special something", not "standard issue" (or whatever it is called) where you can find weapons and various regular shield arrays.
Can i join you in my Dred sci ?
Great guide thanks for all your work
One thing though, and this may just be something silly I'm missing, but in your skill build, why do you have flow capacitors maxed out? As far as I can tell nothing in your builds benefits from it.
You basically never need to respec when you move to a different escort or cruiser build. Flow Cap in particular is maxed to allow one to switch to an Omega gear Glider setup.
Ya ya, I know- NOBODY does this.
Awoken Dead
Now shaddup about the queues, it's a BUG
Check. Check. Check. Check.
Thank you! Just what I was looking for. A simple, short-and-to-the-point build guide.
Now, my question is: could the Advanced Escort (AE) be adapted for PvP? Can I fit the AE with the PE build? I'm an AE pilot and I wouldn't want to shell out another 120K Dil for the Patrol Escort unless absolutely necessary.
I chose the Star Cruiser upon making it to VA50 (I'm F2P) and I got tired of repeatedly having my butt handed to me in PvP. So I went and grinded real hard to buy and outfit an AE, only to quickly find out that this didn't change my predicament one bit. In fact, it only made it worse. At least in my Star Cruiser I could tank my way out of a jam for at least a couple of minutes before getting popped, whereas in the AE I only last a few SECONDS. I can't even begin to describe how frustrating this is.
I've tried several different builds I've found here in the forums (sans the overpowered P2W stuff, of course) and yet the situation doesn't change: I suck at PvP. And my current build is not too different from the ones you describe here, so please understand if I'm not too eager to jump into yet another ship-purchase-and-fitting endeavour.
Anyway, thanks for this guide. Great job!
One way of doing it:
Tac: Keep the BO seating from the Patrol Escort
Eng: EPtS1 / EPtS2 (put both into tray 7)
Sci: ST1 / TSS2 (just like PE) and HE1 (unlike AtSIF1 on the PE, don't put this into tray 7)
A really important ingredient of these builds are the 3 borg set elements (console, deflector, engine). If you don't have them already, get them. The healing you receive from the set bonus is incredibly useful.
Gotcha, boff skills set. Now working on the consoles and keybinds. About the keybind file: I see "FirePhasers" there. My current build is all tetryon, both weapons and tac consoles. All I did was change my aft beams for turrets as per your specs. Q: how can I modify the file for tetryon weapons?
Yeah, I got the borg set. Will have to go back to STFs (ugh...) to get the MACO shield.
Again, thanks!
For consoles: I suppose you could drop one armor console and get a second field generator.

Roger that.
Armor? Not sure I follow. You mean drop one armor and get the RCS? Wouldn't that make me even more vulnerable?
Oh, and I don't even have one field generator. This is my current console build:
Eng: Neutronium Alloy Mk XI + Monotanium Alloy Mk XII
Sci: Biofunction Monitor Mk XII + Power Insulator Mk XII + Emitter Array Mk XII (Yeah, don't ask.)
Tac: Prefire Chamber Mk XII + 2 Tetryon Pulse Generator Mk XII + Borg Universal Module
I'm thinking working on the sci consoles first, then gradually switch the rest depending on how it all works out. The field gens alone cost a small fortune, and as you can see I've already spent a lot of dough. All my cannons -and now turrets too- are purple Mk XI [Acc]xX or [CrtD]xX too. You can imagine why I'm so frustrated with PvP.
Again, thanks for your time and patience. I really do appreciate it.
The first thing you should work on is to get 4 tactical consoles that match your energy type. You can also buy field generators in the dilithium store for ~11k dil.
In the course of one evening, I went from this (old build) to this (new build).
The keybinds work like magic. It's unbelievable.
Mancom, I can't thank you enough!!
