No T5 Constitution...

... but what about a T5 Vesper, Excalibur and first and foremost Exeter class?
Technically they're just based on the Constitution class but not constitution class ships themselves.

I mean we got a Saber, Rapier and Ushaan retrofit and Fleet versions, why not a T5 Exeter?
Heck we even got a Fleet Nova class that has superior Tactical BOFF stations and more tactical consoles than a Galaxy Class...

I can understand that for a Crusier, those ships are really tiny, but it wouldn't be the first time in Star Trek history, where a Starship got enlarged for some reason.
Again i am not talking about the TOS or refit Constitution, CBS clearly vetoed them, but Vesper, Excalibur and Exeter are clearly much more modern ships and its fans should get the chance to use them in endgame.

In the most recent priority one interview of Al he said that the request for even the Exeter was as close to a 'never going to happen' as a dev can give.

Since my english isn't that good, i don't even try to listen to that interview, was there any explaination given?
I mean the Nova Class got a T5 and Fleet version, the Saber Class also, but the Exeter doesn't?
Does anyone even remotely understand this or is it just another "not cool enough" ship for Capt. Geckos exquisite( :D) taste ?

Here's my post where I transcribed the ship questions part of that interview http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?p=13073621#post13073621 .
Tier 5 or a Fleet Exeter (1:03:14)- "Is that some sort of compromise instead of getting a Tier 5 Connie?" "Yeah, that's what I'm hearing so... no, I'll, I'll never say never. But I'll say no, that's as close to never as- I don't like to say promise or never-"

Unfortunately at that point, the Founders of the Federation pack question cut in and the answer wasn't elaborated.

The only explanation that makes sense is that CBS vetoed it. Enough people have expressed interest in buying it that Cryptic would likely make a good profit on any T5 retrofit and Fleet version of the Excalibur. That they haven't put said ship in the game in the three years plus change this game has been running suggests to me that they simply aren't allowed to.

But what is the "original Series Bundle" good for?
Just to get a low level ship and some uniforms that doesn't really fit to any endgame ship?
(The same can be said about the Enterrise bundle of course.)

You know, i just try to understand the logic behind this...

It's a vanity item. Like the DS9 bundle for that matter (I got that purely for the Belfast bridge interior, something I don't see 99% of the time).

    Uniform unlocks
The TOS Connie is a good ship for the first ten levels and not bad for the ten after.
The Phaser pistol is an infinite weapon. So you can get enough of them to equip your entire away team with them and never need to upgrade till T5.
Also the blue phasers on the connie are infinite as well so you can build a beam boat with nothing but blue phasers. Mostly it is show, but it also is EC and Dilithium cheap.

If you get your hands on the c-store Connie (Exeter-class), tweak it with fleet gear and get the right bridge officer setup, you can make it a viable endgame ship including STF's. (That's right, you will see me in Conduit: Elite in my Exeter) It's actually all I fly now. It will never be a good Pvp ship at endgame, but if you're a die-hard Connie fan, you can use the Exeter with a ton of upgrades.

Granted it's not the TOS connie, but I'll settle for a ship with the TMP skin. You will also have to learn to play all over again, because the days of flying into a storm of bad guys and soloing them are over. I highly adivse it for anyone who seeks a challenge and has grown bored with the standard PvE fights.

All nice and good, but i don't really see any usefulness without at least one suitable endgame ship for all that.

this is how i see it, i got the TOS uniforms and my crew has the according weapons equipped.

Just one question for the devs:
I even got suitable weapons for a ship, but what ship i am supposed to use in the first place?
    A tier 1 or 2 Constitution variant?
I mean the excelsior is allright (althrough i hate it) but it's not a TOS fitting ship. Starfleet didn't use TOS uniforms when the Excelsior was launched.

We don't even have a much bigger JJ Movie Enterprise, which would be my first choice for a T5 TOS ship.

I mean are we supposed to wear TOS uniforms on a Odyssey Class (or any other 24-25th century styled ship)?
(i know STOs devs have some weird ideas but thats really too much, really)

I am not criticising, i'm just curious.

Call me crazy but when i was watching Star Trek (this one) i somehow fell in love with the new ship.

In a strange way i like the new interpretation of Star Trek, but STO just has Cryptic styled ships and that's it. (althrough many other elements of STO would fit quite well, but Cryptics ship designs is just killing any fun IMO)

But i appreciate your tip and give the Exeter a try. :)

    EDIT:
Allright i bought it, equipped the best stuff i have (romulan Rep set, Fleet Beam arrays, MACO set) but still even doing traelus system daily is impossible (ok maybe i just suck, lol).

I just try to comprehend what Cryptic is thinking what we are supposed to do with all that TOS stuff but without a according ship...

Are you talking about the blue phasers? They are designed to let you level without buying new weapons on the way up. Once you get to max, you get MK XII VR's (like Fleet stuff) to play the endgame.

People who fly anything under T4 are gimping the rest of their team in group PVE. If you want to **** around during missions enjoy, but don't TRIBBLE with other people's time because you can't get over your obsession with trailer trash.

Yreodred, I just flew the Traelus mission with no real probs. Be sure your difficulty setting is on "normal" otherwise, yeah you probably will be smoked. If your setting is on normal and you're still having trouble, I'm betting it will come down to the setup. I'm a tactical captain so I get the damage boosts. Typically in the tactical slot I have either Beam overload or torpedo spread (once in a while high yield torp, but I recommend it the least). In the two engineering slots I have emergency power to shields and weapons for the two ensign positions and Engineering team 2 and Aux to Structural in the higher slots. In the science station, when flying Conduit: Elite, I usually have jam sensors, in case the Borg start to wail on me and I begin to take too much damage.

As for Projectfrontier and his comments: The only times any team I've been on in Conduit: Elite has lost has been due to one of two things: 1.) The team itself did not coordinate their attacks properly like you have to do in order to win (blowing up Nanite gens and targeting nanite spheres) -or- 2.) Some pompus elitist decided to rage quit because they didn't like the ship I was flying, thus TRIBBLE over everyone. But if a team gives it an honest go, not only will you win easily, but you will also get the optionals as well.

Yreodred, the key to survival in a connie is shields. Whatever gives you the most hitpoints in shields, is what you want. Once you get the fleet gear that boosts your hull hitpoints, then you can take a little more abuse, but first and foremost start with shields. I'll be more than happy to give you a run down on what my ship has.

Rule #1: It's just a game. It's all about fun. If you're having fun, you're doing it right.

But, with that said, I'd be upset if I entered a PuG STF and saw someone in a Tier 2 ship. ICE (ISE) isn't a good example to use, either. I was part of a four-man team that beat it and got the optional just last night.

I'm glad that you're having fun with your Tier 2 ship. But, please be considerate of your fellow players fun too. Single Player PvE is great, maybe even Normal STFs if you're doing a pre-made group. But, please be considerate of your fellow players and stay out of Elite STFs if you're doing PuGs.

Just to clearify, i would never use a Tier 2 ship in a STF (or other team based mission) where other people are relying on me.

I have come to the conclusion to fly the Ambassador, at least it is the most Constitution-like endgame vessel in STO, i just hate the excelsior, sorry excel fans.
On the other hand if we would get that ship i would use it instantly .

But regarding the exeter and constitution, i find it almost impossible to use it regulary and since i do much team based stuff i better keep my hands off it.

But if Cryptic would give change their minds and give the ambassador the Vesper, Exeter and Excalibur ship parts i would be the happiest STO player ever. :)

Personally, I have absolutely 0 problems seeing someone come in in an "underpowered" ship, such as a T1-3. What I have a problem with, is
1> New people come in, but decide to do whatever it is they want, and don't listen to what people are telling them/having the chat window closed,

    2> Leecher/"AFK'ers"

3> Ragequitters, especially if they were part of the problem to begin with. So not only did you TRIBBLE the team with your mistake, now you're further TRIBBLE them by leaving the team short-handed.

3> Elitests that seem to like belittling people, yet their performance is at best, a hair above the person they're insulting, usually it's actually far worse.

4> Active griefers that purposely TRIBBLE up the FA/STF just to mess with people, and waste their time.

Overall, my fun isn't going to be ruined by someone that doesn't do as much damage as me, such as flying a lower tier ship. If THAT's the case that someone else IS bothered by it, then I guess you'd complain about anyone using a "less capable" ship and setup than you are period.

It's a game, you can use whatever uniform you want on whatever bridge you want, with whatever ship you want. It's not like cryptic is losing money because they don't have a ship to go with the Ent or TOS uniforms at T5.

Also, we've been told that the JJPrise is an even bigger NO then the T5 connie. The game's license is from CBS, the new movies are Paramount, so they aren't included in the license. Before you ask, the few JJ references in the game are from the countdown comic, which was specially included in the license as part of a tie in deal, that doesn't mean there is a loophole big enough for the JJ connie to fit through.

Surely you have to at least understand the poster's viewpoint. I mean this game is a haven for trek fans. And just thinking on any Trek fans you yourself may know or have seen or met at a Trek convention, you should at least be able to relate to the viewpoint that there may be a slightly obsessive compulsion driving some players to want to be able to wear the right uniform with the right phaser on the right bridge of an end-game ship?

    Not everyone.

    But some?

    You do get that right?

Because I see it a lot in the game already. Just with Deep Space 9, TNG and Wrath of Khan era uniforms on those types of ships.

It's the same tendency/habit that drives people to complain that they can't customize the uniform of all the people that show up on their ship interiors, and to continually post threads asking Cryptic to allow for that.

So it's not a concept that should be alien to people.

I would like to see it in writing from CBS to Cryptic/PWE that there is to be no T5 Connie. Without factual proof, I am inclined to believe it's just another dev not wanting it and why we don't have it. It took Cryptic/PWE 3 years to get the Ambassador in STO all because I dev didn't like the ship.

Yreodred, I'm sorry to hear that the Exeter isn't going to work out. I did the same thing you did for the longest time, flew the Ambassador in lieu of a Connie, but after a while I just got tired of it and found a way to make the Exeter work for me.

As for the initial question of "Why no T5 connie"? They pretty well summed it up: "Cryptic says no, citing Paramount wishing to maintain Cannon." The JJ-prise is absolutely not going to happen, as I don't think PWE even has the rights to it.

I feel your pain and share your desire for either an upgraded Connie or enough spare parts that I can bastardize my Ambassador into a Connie that was designed by committee.

Meanwhile, for all of you wishing to maintain series cannon and hold to the belief that the Connie (or even a modernized cruiser that resembles one) has no part in the Star Trek universe in which we play, enjoy flying the new Voth ships. Because we all know a starfleet captain has a FAR more reasonable chance of commanding one of those, unlike a cruiser designed by Starfleet.

    BREAKING NEWS!

There was outrage within the Federation today as Starfleet announced the immediate shutdown of all starship production. This was followed by an announcement that all future starship construction will be carried out by the Risians, Vulcans, Andorians, Cardassians, Tholians, Romulans, Elachi, Terran Empire, Starfleet of the future and the Voth. In a statement Starfleet officials said that these suppliers were simply the initial batch and that further suppliers would be added to the list as time goes on.

Stay tuned as we get in depth analysis from our panel of experts on today's announcements.

My understanding of why there is no Fleet Cruiser Retrofit is due to the Constitution refit or TMP Constitution being part of the Tier 2 Cruiser. The devs can't put in the Tier 5 Constitution so that would include the TMP Constitution due to CBS. Easiest method would be to introduce the Fleet Cruiser Retrofit and not have the Constitution refit available at Tier 5. The devs would just have to create a new Fleet ship costume for the Fleet version to compensate for the loss of the Constitution Refit and whoever uses the Cruiser Retrofit would just be stuck with 2 ship costumes assuming they didn't buy the Exeter.

No there should be tiers. However, they need to make a tier 6 and fleet tier for sure. Not all tier 5s are created equal. Tier 5 should be the 2000 zen ships and the free tier 5 you get at hitting RA. VA ships should be tier 6 and then ofcourse fleet level ships should be tier 6 as well.

Though there is zero reason why there is a fleet version of tier 2 escort and science but no tier 2 cruiser. It's asinine.

That would be the best sollution IMO.
Cryptic should remove all connections between the Constituition +refit with the Vesper, Exeter and Excalibur Class and make them independent ships that only share some basic elements with the constitution.
It would be like the D'Kyr Science Vessel we have in STO (that thing is from the mid 22 century AT LEAST).

That's what i really don't get. In STO it seems that everythings possible, canon got thrown overboard long ago. Excelsior Classes outgun 100 year younger Starfleet Cruisers (just because of one dev), a Galor Class blongs to the best Cruisers in the game, while only Starfleet ship that count are little escorts.

Cryptic even released a TOS pack including a shuttle and a (very good made Bridge) but NO SHIP to use all that stuff on!

Seriously, i do not understand this.

And for some reason CBS and Paramount won't comment on the subject even in emails.
