Rule #1 when you develop software: NEVER EVER, under NO circumstance release updates up to, or during a weekend, when people usually have time off, and you have to pay more extra for overtime, than you already do.
Cryptic did this alot in the beginning and they payed for it, dearly.
Luckily they've learned.
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
I cannot believe how you mind appear to.. well i nearly said work but I am not sure it does, why dont they release it for the long weekend.. so you want them to release a new update to servers, when they arent going to have the staff there to cover the probles BECAUSE its a long weekend !
WHY would they pick this worthless day!?!? It's just in the middle of the week and will be doubley worse when the servers crash.
What makes tuesday more worthless than thursday?
An no... In fact it will be easier on the servers... For one, people are mostly at work, and they have 4 full days to get any server instability under control, before the weekend where the Devs MIGHT want a few days off, after several months of focused work on season 8.
It may be worthless to you, but its Win-Win for both the rest of us, and the Dev-team.

Just because of what you said: It IS in the middle of the week, the devs ARE at their normal worktime and can react almost instantly if something fails.
Would YOU be willing to work on saturdays and sundays where a big bunch of players is stressing the servers? Any possible catastrophic issues with S8 can be fixed BEFORE the weekend.
Would YOU be willing to explore a weekend WITHOUT playing S8, because the worst case happens and the devs are at home?

Oh boy another pointless whine thread. Wait until the scheduled day. I trust, no....I BELIEVE that you'll make it, unscathed. Just take my hand, close your eyes, and we'll get there together.
Well that is the somewhat... Undiplomatic way of saying it, but true nonetheless.

Weekends have EVERYONE who plays STO ready and primed for the Season update, if that day was picked. So if it released, their would be issues from the sheer amount of players, which would consume time, and get angry player complaints that the devs don't know what they're doing, despite them not really being the source of the issues in the first place...
That never bodes well. So a weekday, where fewer play during the day, will have much reduced server crashes and issues. And those that do, they can fix then and there, allowing much better playtime afterward on the weekends
Also, tuesday is an actual ST thing from the movie Generations, so why not?
"Let me guess, tuesday?"
Was named Trek17.
Been playing STO since Open Beta, and have never regarded anything as worse than 'meh', if only due to personal standards.

I was thinking somehting like that as well.
Roll it out on tuesday, see how it works on a weekday (less stress).
Throw in some patches during the scheduled maint. on thursday to get rid of the worst bugs that popped up in the first two days and then hope it holds up when the floodgates open and the stress to the system goes up during the weekend.
It's a long weekend. Why would they release on a TUESDAY?!!?!
They want to catch a few nights sleep before the great bug hunt begins.
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.
Well, it couldn't be yesterday because I had a party to go to.
It couldn't be today, because I was at the Star Trek Convention in San Francisco.
It can't be tomorrow because that's Bagel/Donut day.
So. . . Tuesday it is!

Pretty much this. Every other time they released a major update on a weekend, it usually resulted in overtime that weekend. Not good for servers or paychecks.
I don't know about the US but on this side of the pond you pay your employees a lot more if they have to work on weekends. And since without any doubt there will be numerous issues once season 8 has gone live its better to plan in some workdays to fix them.
it is a diaster to go to production or lauch a major release during a weekend. On weekdays, almost everyone is on their battlestation to take care of the problem(s) if there's any.
Besides, Tuesdays are weekends in Star Trek universe

Considered why they picked at tuesday over any other day?
Becasuse of the previous failures of launching new material during or upcoming on a weekend (like said ealier), that just doesn't work out.
Lesser people jumping on at the same time means less strain on the servers. Even the waiting line can cause trouble.
If by any chance something broke coming on to the main server, they have a chance to either fix it emediately and not creating a bad situation during prime time. Or patch it up during the thursday server downtime.
Sorry for my English skills today. Tired, headache and just doesn't care
noone is crazy to get new big updates live in weekends what if something break, dose not work, game braking bugs ,exploits come and they should wait whole weekend to fix them since ppl dose not like weekends with half day with no game on and to have servers of while weekends cost a lot more huge lose in zen sale,a lot more expansive devs,no free time for devs

I promise, I'll do what I can to limit the blood spatter.
Tuesday: It will be a good day to d..estroy the servers.

It's funny, especially the already mentioned "Let me guess, Tuesday"
Easteregg Ahoy, my friend... Intended or not but I picture Captain Harriman somewhere in the Cryptic Offices...

Cause they have to buy enough cheese to go with all that whine that's happening.
