I'm not sure if this has come up before (there are thousands of threads, people, so give me a break, okay?), but with the upcoming update to the character movement animation would it be at all possible to add few non-humanoid body parts or features?
Examples include things like the three-armed and three-legged navigator from the Animated Series...
Multiple sets of arms...
Canine- or avian-like legs...
Extra joints (as in extra elbows or knees)...
Some dramatic head options such as: extra eyes, extra-large facial features, large compound eyes, horns, fins, Worf-like single braid, extra-long hair/pontytails/braids.
This list is far from exhaustive, but it may be more doable than introducing, say, Horta as player characters or bridge officers.
Can others please add to this list? Thanks.
The reputation system got nerfed to prevent "power creep"; it's called an investment in time and money, and I think I should get a little something for my time and money like being able to stomp the TRIBBLE out of a new guy since I've been playing for three years now!
Yes, this has been brought up before, but I do agree.. I'd like to see more parts for "Alien" creations.. Including the digitgrade legs, Gorn features/skin etc., as honestly, I'd like to make something Akin to a Gorn, but have him on Fed side. Avian parts too come to think of it would be nice as well as I seem to remember a few avian species in TNG.

Captain Geko was interviewed on a podcast, and he mentioned that some hypothetical animations (like holding a shoulder-mounted weapon) would require upgrading to the animation system Neverwinter uses. Not much detail though on what this would allow, just that some things aren't workable now, and the upgrade would take some effort, so no promises on an exact timetable or anything.
There wasn't really any implication that this would make novel animation rigs easier to create, but we know that's something they've done occasionally in the past, so it's always nice to hope for more rigs.
Take a look at my Foundry missions! Conjoined, Re-emergence, and . . .

I concur. The character customization should be expanded massively, I'll jump on the bandwagon for digitigrade legs and I'll add cloven hooves on the wishlist. Anthropomorphed Targ or space cattle for the win!
Honestly, this is where customization should take place, not in outlandish coloured uniforms. Vastly different people working for a common goal, that's the Star Trek spirit.

that it? geko makes a theoretical answer, but a theory is an unproven opinion that has some circumstantial evidence to back it up and yet everyone thinks it is coming without any direct answer from the horse mouth on the issue.
if the animation system is to be updated, gravity also needs to effect the persons of all genders. falling down cliffs needs to bad choice instead of being invulnerable on landing. heavy armour suits should impact the way characters move and act. smaller characters with large weapons should have issues using the weapons and recoil. alien gen characters with massive heads with a tiny neck should have significant restraints in place to keep all that weight in one place without snapping the neck. each planet that is visited needs it's own gravity. a camouflage system should be added and hiding behind crates or in between overgrowth should make an enemy more or less invisible until they make noises. there is a whole bunch of things that need to be added.
T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW. Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.

And that is, I think, one of the reasons we see less Devs on the Forums actually saying something.
Someone makes a hypothetical remark and some of us jump up and start demand stuff for it, posting it as definitive Truth and in this case even as an "Upcoming Update"...
It would certainly make the Alien toon choice look more 'alien' - an interesting coincidence is that in terms of canon, most aliens appear to be offshoots of normal humaniods anyway.
I'd personally love to make an alien with no legs at all. Perhaps hovering on wings, or using a single snake-like tail Madusa style and so on. With such customisation we'd see some pretty cool aliens (and one or two abominations).
Trek's explanation for 'Human Aliens' comes from the Preservers. They were the first species to evolve in the Milky Way Galaxy - and found little to no other life, so they seeded every habitable planet they could find with the building blocks to their DNA so they would have company. Then something happened and they died out, but left everyone else behind.
So most 'aliens' are just Preservers with planetary evolution differences. Qo'Nos is hotter with higher gravity so Klingons are stronger with multiple organs. Vulcans - same basic story. High strength, high durability, low stamina. Humans, Bajorans, Betazoids all evolved in similar circumstances so they're remarkably similar beings. Not sure how the Saurinoids fit into the mess (Cardassians, Gorn, etc) - but for the most part, all Trek species are just distant cousins for the most part. Why interbreeding and hybrids work as well.
I'm sure there are some species who evolved without Preserver interference - but beyond the Horta, you'd be very hard pressed to make an argument.
Though more alien parts and animations would be welcome. I do agree.
I recall a lot of talk from the devs about adding andorian antenna animatons? like 3 years ago...
Not surprising, I'm not sure how marketable/profitable it would be vis a vis dev/rescources/time outlays. When compared to the return on investment on pumping out rubberstamp lockbox stuff, I see no incentive for them to "do wonders" with alien customization.

They need to do a big update just for customization.
One can wish. :P
i thought i was well informed from following the different dev blogs and the forums but i've not heard anything on this. could you elaborate?
