So basically - to hell with the IP. Nothing personal and not adressed at you, I'm just dismayed with Cryptic's cheap way of handling things.
But the point is, if carriers didn't fit the vision of the IP as you say, why are we playing a game that still carries the name of the IP but contradicts almost everyting that IP portrayed in the past 50 years?
Welcome to ANY licensed MMO. I cannot argue that point with you, because you are correct. However, all things being the way they are, there is no reason to exclude something because it wasn't seen on-screen, or fit the original definition of Star Trek (such as the Avenger, Roddenberry would have croaked if he saw that, if he weren't already dead).
Well, to be honest, you have to take into consideration that by the time the Breen joined the Dominion in the war, the Federation forces were streched so very thin that such an attack does not seem completely impossible. I mean at the point the Breen joined the war the Fed/KDF alliance was loosing badly that even Sisko deemed neccessary to trick the RSE into joining the alliance in order for them to survive. And even then, that alliance with the RSE included would have still lost the war if it wasn't for Legate Damar and the Cardassians switching sides.
So in my view, the success of the Breen attack on Earth - which was not that succesfull IMHO given the low number of casualities, does not mean that Earth and the Federation had no defenses due to their peaceloving ideals, but rather they were losing a war dearly and their defence resources were stretched way too thin to provide sufficient protection at theat stage of the conflict.
I WILL however concede that point to you. I tcould be suggested that because of the war, the Federation was stretched thin. But you have to admit, a few more "warships" or defensive systems, MIGHT have made a difference.
Spock's quote "Starfleet's mission has always been one of peace" IS accurate, however once peace is achieved, how do you maintain it?

Maybe this year will have "Ice Age" puns and be Voth centered.
The winter event will probably start the week after S8, I'd be interested in seeing what the ultimate reward is, as they already gave us a free ship with the FE, and there will likely be another FE for the anniversary.

We never saw a toilet on screen either....What they did not want to show you
Makes kinda sense though :P
I mean a Enterprise comes to mind, when Tucker and Reed were stuck on the Romulan drone ships for several days, part of it in parts with no atmosphere! Where are they gonna go.....where are they gonna go?
Can't have a honest conversation because of a white knight with power

My view was that I have nothing against seeing more new stuff that hasn't been seen on air, but that new stuff should at least follow the premises set by the IP. You know, put in new fresh stuff, but be coherent with the IP and the history behind it.
In STO, we have some things that are radically different from ST.

My point was that the warships were probably stationed on the defense perimeters and the lack of them in Sol (although this was never said or explained in DS9) is a direct result of the huge losses we know the Federation suffered during the Dominion war.
Regardless of the shows being Human centric, the fact remains that there are hundreds of other member worlds in the UFP. Continuously sacrificing everyone else's worlds in order for Earth to remain intact, even if it's the capital of the UFP, probably wouldn't go down well with other member species. They did sacrifice Betazed in the Dominion war because they were streched thin, but you can't expect them to barricade Earth and risking the other worlds - that's why the warships were on the defense perimeters and the Breen.....well the Breen somehow managed to sneak in, but that was never thoroughly explained in the show.
Also I haven't seen any issues with Starfleet keeping the peace with the current fleet setup. The fact is - even if the majority of the fleet was not designated as 'warships' they were more than capable of defending the Federation.

Be careful what you do with statements like these, you know that the posters here will jump in and tell you that they didn't have toilets due to budget restrictions. lol :P
So now that STO has taken that "vision" in a different direction ther eis no reason to NOT have Fed warships.
Just to be clear, Star Trek had warships well before STO (and STID). They were used against the Dominion and Borg. (Where warship means primary functions are military ops.)

Yes, however they weren't dedicated "combat" platforms, they were retooled Galaxies, Nebulas and Excelsiors, with the exception of the Defiant which WAS designed as a combat support vessel.

You guys have no real idea how Cryptic works if you think they are putting out a new lockbox, lobi ship, and make it CHEAPER for you to open / purchase these things.

Well, they already did so... point moot.

You don't seem to understand business. sale = more money
Seems technology is getting careless. Even during the Domnion war the Federation only managed to get hold of One Jem'hadar Fighter.
Actually....
Two (at least), one downed, which was later used to nuke a Kectracel White storage facility, and another one stolen by Kira Nerys, carrying the Breen Energy Dampening Weapon.
[Edit] Any news about the Voth Lockbox? (if any)
Beta, LTA, CE, Multiple preorder Versions, all Addon Packs except AoY, nearly all KDF/Rom and ~50% of all Fedships, over 25 LockboxShips, Endurer of Atari's "Year of Hell", but...

No, but the Technical Manual shows where the toilets were located, including the one on the bridge;)
