Hi Captains,

We will be bringing down Star Trek Online tomorrow, Monday, September 30th, at 7AM PDT (click here to view in your timezone) for maintenance and to apply a new patch that will address your feedback and concerns with our special Crystalline Entity event, as well as fix a bug with the IDIC Tribble. Patch notes can be found here, and we expect this maintenance to last for 2 hours. The test server, launcher and access to manage your account may also be unavailable during some portions of the maintenance.

Thanks for your patience and understanding,

- The Star Trek Online Team

    great to hear,

will there be an "over-time" granted for people or toons that where not able to beat it by now due to the bug issue? half my fleet is having problems with this event in its current state.

as those may have just gotten the shard one time, and wont be able to finish it. as they lost some days.

i am aware that there are many players that CAN do it. me myself can do it., still its annoying. as it takes so much time i need for.... grinding or playing the game normally.

and there are people who are not able to. some of them my friends and fleet mates. and for those it should be doable also.

Great, 2 hours downtime to nerf an already easy event... Oh well, if only important issues would take the same time to fix...

Glad to see that Cryptic is listening to player feedback and took rather quick steps considering the event only started on Thursday. Just out of curiosity will the event be extended as previously discussed and considered or is that still up in the air?

If this event is now reliably puggable again I intend to run it on 8 characters :)

While the MU bug in CC has been annoying to say the least it hasn't made the event undoable. I have done it every day on 28 toons since Thursday although it took considerably longer due to having to leave multiple instances to find a non-bugged one. While extending the event isn't needed it would be a nice a gesture on cryptics part at most they would only need to extend it the 4 days the event has been bugged.

that was the idea behind the question. not everyone IS able to do it. OR has the time. casual players might just want t log in when getting home from work and do it fastly.

i dont care i love it the way it is, even if it lags sometimes and i have to queue up very often to get it as some pugs do use aoe attacks.

still half of my fleet is not able to. they struggle. becasue of their build or having other problems. extending the event the days it was bugged would be great for those

Will this fix the issue I keep having? When I try and enter CC I warp away then it immediately crashes to desktop... I didn't have the problem yesterday though.

Or how about leaving it as it is. It is doable, as long as you don't focus on the mirror ships. Or what about an ULTRA hard version similar to the current one?

I have consistently completed the event on elite each day with pug teams, and yes I am in a cruiser not an escort. Team work is the key to defeating the event.

i am in a cruiser aswell and did elite BEFORE this and never died. thats not the point

its also not the point that we can do it now also

the point is people HAD difficulties on normal playing this new event and for those it gets changed also some still have no shard, but even tried to get it every day. SO some have troubles with it. and for those it should be a bit fairer as we are a big community and some of those are newer players OR dont have the set up for the game.

i personally run the tal shiar adapted battle cruiser mostly with both borg sets. and 2 part rom weps. and fleet consoles and elachi beams. that works well for me here. STILL i see people blowing around me into bits no matter what they use. even i blow up when all mirror ships are triggered.

and thats the thing they should also attack other npcs and not just the 10 players. also the respawn time was to high.

just because some elite players now can play the normal event , doesnt makes it that everybody can play it..

i dont mind if elite stays the way it is even after the event. but normal should be changed due to the facts its an limitied time event and players want that dil. it should be doable by every lvl 50 player not just the high end ones. on normal i mean.

See the problem with your statement?

Undoable and taking longer than normal are two different things. there is nothing wrong with my statement. the fact that since Thursday I have been able to do CC on 28 toons every day means everyone else can too. I have earned collectively 84 shards already, there is no reason no one else can not earn the 14 shards by the end of the event. There is no leaver penalty for leaving CC so if there are too many MU ships, LEAVE, requeue and do another one. easy peasy.

I agree. The elite can remain super hard, as long as the normal is fixed. After all, that is the difference between the two modes. Elite is very hard, normal is easy.

I think he is telling the truth because he has no life (Sorry :D Rex). Also because I see him online 24/7 and I resist the urge to call him a Peta'Q in Spectre Chat XD. On a serious note the nerf is a good thing. I just went into a normal with my Alt (BOP it Jem Mk XI) and died within a minutes because of the number of hits i was taking. THERE WERE SO MANY FRICKING MU SHIPS NEAR THE SPAWN POINT (CAPS WINS) making it very difficult for my team of non-battle cloaking Peta'Qs to make it to the Entity. Also, my team were a bunch of mindless STOVOKOR who wanted lots of agro by OMG FAWING ON EVERY MU SHIP...eventually I just left. This event was the reason for me coming back. Now I regret it and have stopped playing...Maybe I will after the patch XD

well i have a life, a wife and just 4 toons. AND A JOB.. where i spend 12 hours a day. so i cant do it.. sry.

and i dont want to spend my gaming time that i have left daily with endless re-queing to finally get a good group. i do it with one toon. and i beat i, also on elite, even with the nice and shiny shattered accolade... STILL i wont be a bugger about it and tell other people that just becasue i can they can also.. what sense in that?

some people have serious matters at hand without spending 24/7 in STO.

Db, im not even on today lol. you did prove my point though, leave and requeue, simple. If you want to play the hero and try to kill the MU ships that's your own fault.

I find myself surprised. No really, I do. It's not often that Cryptic actually fixes things quickly.

I went in CCN with one of my Sci toons with her shield tanking Wells class. It has the Reman shield, and is specced for shield tanking, and the appropriate consoles. That ship never goes boom in any of the ESTF, except Hive, but here with over 100+ Mirror ships, even that ship went boom fast.

So, glad that you guys hot fixed this.

Hey don't get me more wrong, I have a life and don't spend 24 hours a day on this game. I just enjoy a good challenge and as soon as one comes along it gets nerfed.

What bugs me is that people want to be able to do the Elite straight in with no work. I'm talking about teamwork here not ship builds.

So by all means make the normal version easy but leave a challenge for when you have mastered the first step. Just cause you can't fly solo into a team event and win, doesn't mean it is too hard, it just needs a different approach.

I mean we all started out as rookies, and frankly I enjoy a challenge rather than an easy mission. And yes I still get blow up from time to time. :)

Nerf? The mirror ships were broken. Yes the event was easy if people actually focused on the entity, but they didn't.

I couldn't. Even without shooting, I gather agro simply because I am on the map, and (literally) 20 Mirror ships shooting at me is more than even my tank Negh'Var can take. I had no choice but to disengage the Entity, and clear away the Mirror ships.
I completed a 2-man CSE, ISE, and KASE, Optionals included. And I soloed Winter Invasion.

I do have an idea that would also be nice so that we dont have to try to figure out the 20hr cd to get the shards. How about a timer that lets us know.

I know that its going to be difficult because shard or no shard it is repeatable.

For now you can check your logs and do the math.

I gotta throw in my two cents: The MU snafu is more about the whinyness of zerg-rushing noobs than it is about broken mechanics. The ONLY thing that was not working as intended is that the terran ships weren't attacking tholians and the entity the way they were supposed to. Bravo to Cryptic for jumping on this as quickly as they did, but...

    A) It's not their fault a good deal of their player base doesn't want to work with a group to take down a common enemy, listen to specific instruction(Can't tell you how many times I've begged in zone, local, and team chat to just focus on the entity and nothing else), or own their own fail. "I'm not good at this, what's wrong with the game?" seems to be the motto of the common player.

    B) This would all have been sorted out if the devs would just release stuff like this to tribble or redshirt a week before launch. They seem to have a mean-on for surprising the player base with their content. They didn't even say what the rewards for the event were going to be until the day of launch(or to me the night before because I said something about it). Guys, this isn't a tv show, and testing content isn't considered spoilers. Put this stuff out there ahead of time so we can all have a smooth launch, with little griefing. Measure twice, cut once.

To those who want more from Cryptic after this fix, like to extend the event(which they already said they would) or to gift you some trinket to apologize for your ordeal, I say: Let it go, you're being unreasonable. The event goes on until October 17th. It is September 29th right now. You need 14 shards to complete the event. There is still plenty of time for everyone to get their shards, even if, for some inexplicable reason, you were unable to get yours in the last four days. I say that because I have 18 characters, and it takes me a little under 4 hours to get my shards for ALL OF MY CHARACTERS. I spend more time browsing funny cat pictures than grinding this event.

I'll leave you with this. One last time, to everyone who plays Crystalline Catastrophe in the queue system: FOCUS ALL OF YOUR FIRE ON THE ENTITY, DO NOT SHOOT ANYTHING ELSE! That's been the one issue that people have had with this event more than any other, since it was retooled back in May. Nothing is more frustrating than watching that rassum frassum snowflake go from 20% to 40% because half the fleet has ADHD, and has broken off the offensive to chase a shiny.

How about just managing your time better? I log in the same time every day to do my CC. I never have to do math to figure it out. Or, alternatively, you can make a mental note of the time you did the event in your head and say "Okay, yesterday I ran CC at 2pm. That means I can do it again any time after 10am."

I wish all NPCs would target leeches (including those that run from gun mount to gun mount in the Defera Invasion Zone, remodulating but not bothering to fight any nearby Borg; I just watch the Borg following them, like a comet's tail, sometimes a dozen Borg or more at a time; if a player doesn't want to fight in an invasion zone and does a remod to a gun mount just as the person that fought the Borg deserved to, I think they've gotten what they deserve, which includes zero sympathy from me). Then the leeches might change their tune ... or not.

Sorry for the rant. But it's something that's been bugging me for months and a dev can't fix it. It's human-oriented, not software/hardware-oriented.

I love the fact that Cryptic continues to tweek a product after it is released to keep it fresh, thank you. I love that an X factor (Mirror ships) was introduced into CE that could help or hurt you. Please, more of this.

If a match like this is changed I'd suggest including a small note in match note or in a blog alluding to a potential change in situation or tactics.

If there are massive Mirror spawns, people being forced out of matches when warping in (as what happened to me when the CE was reintroduced the first time), or people not getting shards then this really should be fixed.

I actually feel badly for Cryptic who might want to provide a challenge to some players but run up against other players on a tight schedule or those who want to jump into a match and blast everything in sight. But (and I am guilty of this myself in this case) Cryptic should not be held responsible if they provide in game direction and it is ignored by the players.

As for my experience playing CE this time around; I've been lucky and run only Elite matches by organizing groups on certain channels, including a public elite channel. I've always been in groups that competed the match. I hop in or organize one, share tips I've read on the forums and then proceed. Sometimes I've died a bit and other times not at all. All in all I have not had major problems, and the runs have been smooth, but this is not the case with others from what I read.

This said, I shy away from pugs for the CE event because I find that many times people do what they want in pugs and tune others out, often leading to failed optionals or missions, e.g. many, but not all, CSE pugs I've been in. I'll still pug, I just moderate my expectations.
After I posted this I ran with a CCE group that warped into a match with Mirror ships present from the beginning-meaning that we were greeted with Mirror ships as we left the warp out point. During all my other matches they spawned later during the match after the initial Tholian wave was dealt with. I died twice flying through the swarms to the CE but after 1.5 minutes only three players remained so we had to give up.

Got to the officer that gives the path to 2409 mission, queue and do the CCE event, then once you are out do the path to 2409 mission. The next day when you can do it again you will be able to get a shard in CCE. Another way is find a 20 hour doff assignment, once CCE is over start that assignment theres atleast 4 20 hour doff assignments in each sector.

OT: Looking forward to the fixes, finding a good no bug instance on 7 characters is not fun. Dying 10+ times does not always equal a good challenge, but it does make for bad design.

The MU ships attacking players even when none of the players have attacked or damaged any MU ships is a bug as well--it's not reasonable to avoid getting aggro if they aggro to your mere presence within their detection radius. I am fine with them ganging up on the players when a player is stupid enough to shoot at them, but getting shot just for being there is not working.
