pings are perfectly normal for a saturday afternoon - Problem is at PWE end.
Getting exactly the same, pulling games down at decent speed on steam; other games fine etc. (have a fibre connection and its seeming generally ok today), its possible its a peering issues of some sort i guess (IE not really my fault, not really PW's) but right now STO is the only thing thats the problem.
for what its worth, looks like my problems start a few hops outside the PW/Cryptic network, only a few traces so by no means conclusive (and frankly, icmp is a guide rather than a decent troubleshooting tool).

this lag is unbearable i am getting disconnected every 2 minutes i have 120 down 12 up and 0 packet loss but STO is just so unstable today. I have had some small lag on it since the CE patch but now even the character selection screen takes 5 minutes to respond when i try to re launch the game,as it will just keep counting the seconds of sever not responding. please fix this un-perfect world.

Are you sure your Internet is not a problem??? Since you are having connection problems, you are no doubt suffering from severe packet drop somewhere along the path to the STO Servers. Your Trace Route results are hinting that the network congestion and associated packet drop is occurring on the gateway between bt.net and tinet.net backbones...
This seems to be the 2nd Trans-Atlantic cable provider that is having capacity problems today. Earlier postings today seems to indicate that above.net is also having issues dealing with its traffic...
And its unlikely the problem is at PWE ends. I just got through running a character 5 time through the CE event befor finally getting a success, and no connection issues during the STF whatsoever...
I am also getting constant disconnects. At best, I can stay connected for about 2 mins.
Is this just affecting the EU servers?
There are no EU servers. all STO traffic goes to the centralized shards located in Boston, off of the Cogent Communications backbone...
I just got through making 5 runs in the CE Event before getting a success, with no issues, so it doesn't look like a Cryptic/PWE server issue.
But with multiple Trans-Atlantic carries having trouble with network traffic this morning, its easy to see why large number of European connections are being effected...
If this was an EU issue, I wouldn't be able to play COD4 or any other game that are using US hosts as the lag would be unbearable.
Ping times over 350ms would indicate a route issue but this isn't the case as you can see all ping times are under this and the trans-atlantic connection is always 50-200ms.
Can't be bothered with this game at the mo & zero response from PWE says it all!!

Again, all times well within acceptable parameters
If this was actually the case, then you should have no problems connecting to STO. The fact that you are having problems, but other players (such as my self) aren't indicates that something else is happening...
This statement would be correct assuming that all packets were being processed along the route... But what happens when the packets are ignored and silently dropped due to excessive network congestion??? Packet that are processed would look close to normal in latency, while dropped packets would have no effect on the results.
Unfortunately, both 'Trace Route' and 'Net Test' are poor tools for diagnosing dropped packets. 'Net Test' by showing low sustained throughput can provide hints that packet drop is occurring, though a limited bandwidth connection, or ISP throttling could produce the same symptoms. 'Trace Route' doesn't indicate where dropped packets are happening, but a sudden increase in latency can indicate where the network congestion is occurring.
Now as far as COD4 is concerned, it would be interesting to see a 'Trace Route' to their servers, and see if they avoid the congested Trans-Atlantic cable links of tinet.net and above.net...
Exactly the same symptoms where showing up a few months ago, when Verizon admitted that they were refusing to expand their gateway bandwidth to Cogent Communications, so we've seen this kind of network issue before...
Hello, I decided to get back into the game (took a break after the risa event).
And i'm having the exact same problems as these folks.
Every other game I play (league of legends, guild wars 2, steam games) all play perfectly fine.
But I go into star trek online and it's quite literally unplayable right now with the lag/disconnect issues.
Takes a full minute for the zone loading screen to appear after character selection, which even that is taking a while now.
And when I do get into the zone, I cannot move at all, the lag is so horrible I press Q or E, it takes a full 10 seconds to respond, A FULL TEN SECONDS, NOT AN EXAGGERATION!
But wait, thats only during the tiny amount of time when the screen isn't giving me "server not responding" and I am constantly getting kicked out.
