    Hi Captains,

It is with great sadness that I let you know that one of our colleagues and friends, Mark "H20rat" Valentine, passed away this past weekend after one year of battling cancer. Mark was an incredible artist who led our video team here at PWE/ Cryptic for many years, and produced some of our most amazing videos and trailers, including the famous STO Free-to-Play Launch Trailer and dozens more. Mark was also a very dedicated member of the STO community and played daily -- he loved to run STFs and hangout with the community in-game and during podcast tapings. He also has a featured spotlight mission in-game, "The Rising Phoenix - Part One", which was put up earlier this year.

Mark will be missed, but his legacy will live on forever. We'll see you among the stars, Mark.

    Rest in peace,

    Brandon =/\=

Oh, wow. Very sad news. His friends and family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

My sincere condolences to his family and friends. Cancer just plain sucks, and it's so sad it took someone way before their time.

Condolences to friends and family. I hope the future holds a cure for such a vicious disease that has taken too many before their time. A far better rest that you go to than you have ever known Mark...........peace and long life everyone

There is another thread just started up about naming either a new ship class or some NPC ships in Mark's honour.

    What about it, Cryptic?

And another silly idea from me to honor him... a system in the same sector as DS9 is located in named after him, complete with mounuments to a legendary builder and maybe a few related missions within as well. :)
*sings* "I like Gammera! He's so neat!!! He is full of turtle meat!!!"

"Hah! You are doomed! You're only armed with that pathetic excuse for a musical instrument!!!" *the Savage Beast moments before Lonnehart the Bard used music to soothe him... then beat him to death with his Fat Lute*

At least some kind of mention would do... maybe an NPC that shares the same costume as one of his characters, for example.

    My condolences. Qapla'.

I second this idea. Would be a fitting tribute for Mr. Valentine. My condolences to his family and his friends at Cryptic. Romulus has a legacy, and Mark's valuable contributions to STO is his enduring legacy too.

I still watch that F2P trailer every now and then. I can't help but log on and play after I do. Thank you Cryptic for putting a face to that amazing piece of work.

And thank you h2orat for everything.

Condolences and regards to his friends and family.

It was mentioned he had a foundry mission spotlighted. Perhaps Cryptic can look at bringing his mission to the game as a lasting piece of him.

    *readies the bagpipers and torpedo*

Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see.

T'was Grace that taught my heart to fear.
    And Grace, my fears relieved.

Although its sad to see one of our family pass on, I take comfort in the thought that somewhere...out there...he's in good company with all the other Star Trek family that passed before. The big bird of the Galaxy will look after him.

    Rest in peace Mark :(

Never met H2orat in-game, but we talked once or twice regarding the trailers he made. I really did love the F2P Trailer, even today it's so good and really reflects STO at it's core. I just wish I could find a way to save it on my computer.

It's sad he lost the battle against cancer. I lost my father at the time of LoR's launch, due to a disease that attacked him while he had no immunity from his cancer treatments. So in a way it hits home for me. My heart goes out to his friends and family.

And out of respect, I played Rising Phoenix again and it really showed how much he loved Star Trek. But when I went to give him 5-stars again, I saw those infamous 1-star raiders, it tore me up. I PMed a few of them and what I got was nothing but disrespect, its just like, how can there be so much heartless people in STO?

Branflakes, whatever you do to Rising Phoenix, please, hide or delete those insensitive people. To me, it feels like people spitting on his grave. :(

We do not know what becomes of us after leaving this mortal coil, but after reading the many replies in this post it is noticeable the touch this soul has left with our community and beyond.

So to this I say many heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and those who were fortunate to know him and may his travels beyond this existence be filled with the blessings and peace to which he has earned and deserves.

R.I.P. h2orat you will be missed.
