What is the Arc Client?
Install Arc

Arc sucks

I am surprised i dont see a thread like this already. Anyways, i had to redo my system. Initially i did not have to have another garbage program at my computers startup, but now i must install arc to play! I actually refused to do it for several weeks now. Well whatever, I am installing it now, so I can install sto, then i am going to immediately uninstall or disable arc! wtf is it for anyways! please comment loudly and nastily. lol.

so i am replying to my own post, but i actually just installed arc, it wanted me to agree to allow it to start at startup, and it wants to send my computer information, AND it wants to download an addition 30 to 40 megs. . .then what! i just want to play sto, i dont give a frak about arc, or about any of the other games provided by perfect world. If i WAS interested, i would not need arc to consolidate or advertise. GARBAGE.

I don't know how, but after that i uninstalled that idiot program named Arc, it deleted my whole game folder as well, and this folder had lot of other games and programs. I didn't deleted the folder, i clicked on the uninstall program button. I can understand you! This program sucks! -.-

okay, I am posting on my post again, play by play. soooo. i installed arc, then the 40 mg download, and then 110 mgs, and finally i get what i am familiar with, the sto sign in launcher. Sooo, after wasting all this time, now i get to sign in and wait for another download for sto to actually install, which is now the 3rd thing to install thus far. . . . btw, with this arc bs, Isn't arc liable and able to be sued for being exactly as crappy and nasty and terrible as steam? I mean, it looks EXACTLY like it, and is just a big a pain in the butt. . .

AND, after all this, I get to wait for 8 gigs download! now, why did I have to do all this other bs and downloads? couldn't i just began with this expected inconvenience? rather than deal with all this extra stuff? I mean really? when i first started this game, it was login, download play. now that i had to reinstall, i have to download, install, download, install, download. . .arg! AND i get to see advertisements! Happy dance! Or not. . .

Search your computer for 'Pando Media Booster' and unistall it if you find it. If you downloaded the game from here http://sto.perfectworld.com/download it most likely has it. It's been stated by Cryptic that Arc doesn't have it, but the game installer itself did before. Don't know if they removed it when they added this Arc TRIBBLE.

Oh and, I reinstalled the game months ago. Back then the 'Direct Download' (before Arc) on that download page had it. First thing it tells you when trying to install it was that it had to install Pando first. No way out of it. Also back then the download page had a bit torrent option to download all the installation files for the game and it didn't have Pando in it at all. I saved the files to an external hard drive just in case I ever need to reinstall the game again, unless they do eventually force everybody to use this Arc system instead of people downloading a fresh copy of the game.

I did a clean wipe of windows 8 just to "freshen up" the system and was greeted with the joy of Arc being rammed down my throat.

Has anyone simply tried install Arc, Installing STO, uninstalling Arc and then going into the STO folder inside program files and making a shortcut for the desktop?

Seems to be working for me atm. Patching now.

If there ever comes a time where I cannot play STO without ARC, i'll move over to Steam.

Long story short, I'm not installing a bunch of gaming browsers from all kinds of different companies on my system just to play 1 game. The end.

I am in the minority when it comes to Arc. I have been using Arc since it's initial launch in May of this year. There are alot of features included in it, and being one of the initial users, when all the features included in it are fully up and running I will get priority on items, that others will have to wait to get :P.

I did initially find, that when I first started using Arc with STO already on my system. STO took a bit longer to load up for me.

I did clean up of my system recently, so I had to reinstall STO. this time using Arc to download and install. The download and install time was drastically reduced, and getting into game now is way way faster than before.

The other good things about it (just my opinion) is that I have full access to the support website and forum while still in game.

I won't say it is totally awesome as there is still a need for improvement, being able to customise the look would be a good one. PWE is going in the right direction with it though.

Saying Arc sucks is somewhat of an over reaction (maybe because being one of the founding users I have had more time to explore it more) It's new, and something new is always going to cause debate, because it is within our nature to challenge some new, that we have to adjust to.

I have never had and pop ups reminding me about Neverwinter. If you can tell me what is happening I can then look at my settings that may help you turn it off.

There will always be people who don't mind having a bunch of useless TRIBBLE sucking up resources on their computer. If PWE had a hundred games or were using this as a streamlined gateway for games from any manufacturer it would make sense but for the one or two games that might actually interest people Arc is overkill. Take away all the bells and whistles of so called convenience in Arc and what you have is a peer sharing program like Pando media booster or utorrent, I have a broadband cable connection which is very good, but my bandwidth is not infinite and I have no intention of sharing that bandwidth torrenting game files for other users that I will never play myself. In my opinion making Arc the only means of installing STO was a stupidly bad idea and as long as I can circumvent using Arc to play STO, I will continue to do so. The minute I can't access STO without using Arc will be the end of my STO gaming or the use of any PWE product.
If something is not broken, don't fix it, if it is broken, don't leave it broken.
    Oh Hell NO to ARC

    1. I don't think is TRIBBLE (but that is individual personal opinion)

    2. It is not sucking up resources on my system in any shape or form if it was I too would not use it. (I think it comes down to indivual system setup)

It isn't totally brilliant I accept anything new will always have it's flaws. There is alot of scope for improvement, and I am sure that will comes in due course.

The marketing of it to the players was somewhat aggresive for use of a better word, by stating the words "mandatory to download" is always going to put players on the defensive.
