STO becoming deserted-End game needs improving?

crusader2007crusader2007 Member Posts: 1,882 Arc User
Just my opinion but looks like the title says...this is becoming a deserted place. I know could be seasonal and hope so as well. With LoR and Risa long gone now it seems like there aren't that many online as it used to be a few weeks ago. PvE's taking a while to queue in...PvPs even worse (except for weekends). Is this becoming a weekend or SOLO experience STO?

What can Cryptic do to entice the masses and retain people to come back to the same old boring grinding fest?
There will be another featured episode in a couple of months and a new S8 version by the end of the year but its funny how this area is becoming full of "browsers" rather than committed players. Just speaking from my own experience but a pain in the neck (for instance) to survive specially for fleets to keep on searching for new players while the former ones just get bored and moved on to other MMOs or other games....I know this is
F2P but would be nice if the end game (STFs, Kerrat, PvPs or so) could be strengthened to keep players motivated from being BORED or moving on......Other suggestions welcome :D

You do realize school is back in session for much of the country/world now, right? All those people who were on all day are now in classes learning things. It's fairly common around this time of year in all MMOs - and you can find the same threads on other gaming forums.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

I'd love more content, that's a given...more stuff is always better.

but I will disagree with it being deserted.

There are players all over the place, it never seems deserted to me. There are players and ships in every zone....so many at times that I turn off player names to clear the screen clutter when it happens.

I guess only they will know if there's a real and significant decrease in activity and if their numbers ($) are going down enough to be worried, or are they only following an expected seasonal pattern. We can only presume so I wouldn't waste effort on this.

Really the whole game only has a year or two left. Once the third "New" Trek movie comes out you can bet we'll see a new Star Trek Online based in the new universe. Which, IMO, would be really nice. The story for that universe is just beginning, whereas the story for the TNG universe we have now has already been played out.

so in two years a new movie will come out....and then STO will die because they made another MMO in 3 months????

First, the new movie won't be out before 2016, and probably 2017 if it follows the same 4 years as the first two. Second, CBS doesn't need permission to give another game company a Star Trek MMO license. They gave Keen/Gameforge a license to do ST: Infinite Space is 2011 - at the same time STO was running. Finally, while JJ-Trek made Paramount a lot of money, the 5 Trek series make CBS a TON of money from syndication fees and DVD/Blue Ray sales.

[QUOTE=crusader2007;12172281 With LoR and Risa long gone now...[/QUOTE]

I'm just going to suggest that your attention span may be a little too short here.

Most online games in North America take a noticeable dip in players starting the last week of August, and ending the last week of September.

As for players in the queue's, many of us have moved on to more reliable groups. I don't pugg with the exception being CE during a marks event. I prefer private groups and fleet groups.

PvP on the other hand is not something I enjoy. It appears I am not alone in that view.

I guess he didn't get the memo. School started. Not like kids will skip school to play STO. Maybe for WOW. Now the adults get to play. :)

After the games they launched with the last two movies flopped I really, REALLY don't see them investing in an MMO to go with the third. It'll be lucky to get another mediocre shooter like Into Darkness did. At least DAC had the decency to be a zero-budget flop.

    Extremely unlikely.
Honestly, an MMO based on the "New Trek" would be doomed to failure.
    Why?
Because it does not have the rich and diverse universe that classic Star Trek has that people would want to experience.

And no, the story of the TNG universe has not been played out.
Time moves on and its just logical to continue on into the 25th century, where most of the gamma and delta quadrants remain largely unexplored and uncharted.

Exactly. STO has barely touched the surface of the ST universe. There are hundreds (ok might be an exageration) of species not yet covered. Quadrants not yet featured. Quadrants to expand on ie Gamma, fludic space. There are also all the books which STO now has the rights to use from. There is also legendary ST characters which to build story arcs on. The possibilities are infinate as it stands.

Agreed. In fact I'm quite appeased at the idea of exploring the delta quadrant. It's truly just as if not more so immense with opportunity that it should bode for numerous layers of opportunity alone. Gamma is just as vast and maybe we'll finally be able to use that fluttering wormhole for more than some thin-skinned knockoff attempt at the inside of the wormhole mission or whatever.

Delta quadrant was a really rad place in voyager. I'm just shocked that everybody picked one of the lamest possible races to showcase in the Delta quadrant.
May good management be with you.

yeah not sure where you got it was being deserted I play mostly in the evening in the eastern time zone and there's never not anyone online there's tons of people all over the place. How can you miss this many people it's one big shard!

well i'm just going to add here that i stopped playing completely by now.

it is not the amount of content (LoR) it is the delivery method.

Featured Episode Series with a weekly mission keep me entertained for 5 weeks. (not to mention that there was much more talk going on about the single missions than when the new Faction came along)

A new Faction... keeps me entertained as long as i need to hit endgame, then i grind a bit Rep and get bored again.

and the BUGS LoR introduced to Endgame are even worse than it was before, Endgame just isn't fun if every single map is broken in multiple ways on top of being old content and pure grind maps for marks with little to no challenge.

DOff System and Foundry, which are the actual highlights of STO, have been as far as i am concerned completely ignored for the new faction (i am still waiting for those Romulan DOffs dStahl told me about in his pre-LoR interviews... i don't see them, and playing Fed + KDF foundry missions with a Romulan Captain / Ship / Crew... is NOT what i wanted.)

And looking at the patchnotes from the last few weeks, there is no one working anymore on the live build but the Janitor, they already moved on to the next big Season Update... so i really don't see a reason to play STO anymore until the Season Update.

And i totally expect the next farming dysons sphere zone to get old after 3 days again, just like that Summer Event.

To the people saying the game is very lively because they see so many ships, you guys realize this game is extremely heavily instanced, right? The ESD looks the same regardless if 200 or 20000 people are playing. There#ll just be 5 instances instead of 150.

That said, the game is far from deserted. The most reliable indicator IMO is the activity in various chat channels, and they seem fine to me. Considering we are right in the middle between seasons, it's actually quite surprising the game is still this active.

I have been able to recruit RomulanDoffs since the start of LoR. There is a Doff mission on New Romulus Command that is the same as Starfleet Academy Recruiting. As a bonus Romulans can do both.

if i wanted WHITE and a few green sprinkled in there... then that would be a viable way to get DOffs.

And where are the Asylums for my Rom Refugees that i get from those?

There is no viable way of progression for Romulan DOffs unless you say that the obvious monetized convenient way for noobs to the system (the upgrinder) is all that is needed.

I have better chances getting my Galor Class filled up with purple Cardassians than i have a path for upgrading Romulan DOffs through GAMEPLAY ...instead of monetization.

Cryptic should take a page from Guild Wars 2 - Far superior game, with far superior events.

Heck its soo good that Final Fantasy 14 had to copy its formula.

    If it works, imitate.

They have managed to introduce content that is very challenging like the no-win and I enjoy it very much. However, keep in mind that it's largely abandoned because it boils down to people being unprepared, trying it and then hating it as "too hard" or something similar to that effect.

I'm with you on more challenge, more brain usage, more problem solving, intrinsic game play but you got to realize that a vast majority of STO players don't use their brains or like problem solving.
May good management be with you.
