So, those of you at Cryptic have successfully made the Romulan faction. Now its time to get down to brass tax, correctly scaling all ships and facilities. The D'Deridex is a perfect example of Cryptic making a sound decision, "lets get players to play as romulan." but wait!!! Cryptic's D'deridex model way waaaaayyyy too small....WHAT TO DO?
Make an accurate model.
Deep Space 9....in game.....is ruffly 10 times the size it should be.
It shouldn't matter whether the place is "supposed" to be big. IT IS! In comparison to a galaxy class starship it still is. Even without the Wayne Zalinsky overall.
You could still have spawns for players near it, just make it the way it should be. The way we last saw it, Ciroc Lofton and Nana Visitor on the promenade.
If you saw any of the last 42 episodes of DS9, you know what I mean.
I do believe that Im the minority, and that Cryptic cant affprd a person to be able to correctly portray the vehicles and stations the way the model builder inteded them to be seen as.
I am a model builder, with Star Trek being my only subject. It is very difficult for me to see these beautiful ships be downgraded so much, they dont even look correct.
ALLOW ME TO GUESS....THE PEOPLE YOU HIRED DONT KNOW WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT.
The D'Deridex is to scale, the thing is supposed to be 1.3 km long.
DS9 is larger than it supposed to be, because when they had it to scale during Beta, people complained it was too small. (Not to mention the player traffic factor).
We don't want what the Feds have. We want the equivalent. We want fairer treatment. Concern, desire, greed to some extent, and passionate belief that the enough people would buy KDF items to make it worth Cryptic's while.

If they scaled it down to the 3km or whatever diameter that it's supposed to have, with standard DS9 traffic you probably couldn't see the station through the ships.

THEN YOU NEED TO HIRE ME.
...If you're that confident in your skills, go ahead and apply for a job. At STLV they stated that they were looking for a few 3D ship guys...
They know what the size it is meant to be. things are often out of scale for gaming and reasons. DS9 would look silly when surrounded by 50 ships. So they make it bigger to make it 'look right' for the game.
whether you agree with that or not, its not being done because they are lazy or cant be bothered to check the size. its a design choice.
even the show changed its sizing from time to time. not every ship looked its true size every single time. things changed sizes to look right for the moment.
ALLOW ME TO GUESS....THE PEOPLE YOU HIRED DONT KNOW WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT.

they know exactly what you are talking about, but shouting at them is not going to want to make them hire you. Even if they did, you would be forced to make the ships the size the team in general agree on.
DS9 looks OK to me in the game. Specially there is so many ships you can't see much of it anyways. I rarely get to see much of the outside due to the amount of ships there.

Fleet Admiral Stowe - Dominion War Vet.
Scimitar size is correct I think. It has a 1350 meter wingspan.. But yeah, just visited DS9 with my scimmie and it is indeed larger than in series.. Wiki says its diameter is 1450 meters but current ingame diameter seems more like ~8 kilometers. And when you run around in promenade you can circle it in a minute - while current promenade circumference seems to be like 2.5 kilometers in space.
I think that DS9 was too small even on TV, compared to Earth Space Dock it's tiny and if you consider that only the inner core is being inhabited, and the outer rings are just cargo holds, the station is tiny.
Even if the series cast states how much of a monstrosity this station is supposed to be.
I think DS9 is another example of Sci-Fi Writers Have No Sense of Scale.
This counts for the guy who designed DS9 for the according TV series in the first place.
In my opinion the original Stations should have been something between 3-10 times of the original size to be being considered as huge or monstrosity.

I find those lists scary as I never know if it's Cryptic expanding or if they just fired a bunch of people.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

You lost my vote in the first sentence op, the term is Brass Tacks, not Brass Tax.
And the models in game are fine, get over your trek ocd.
"If everyone used Macs, we'd be working on how to get to Alpha Centauri rather than how to get to Mars."
Scale always has to be managed carefully with STO and the developers need to strike a balance between the specs and what's practical in-game.
If you think you can do better or know better than the developers, great! Prove your skills by applying for one of their vacancies. It's what I've done!
I vaguely remember a dev around here (possibly even Taco, I can't remember though) commenting on people who say that they would do things "right" and that they should be hired. Something about how once those people are hired and get handed their first assignment list and the timetables on which to do them makes that illusion of "doing it right" disappear. Not to say that the quality of work goes down due to that, just that what those people have in mind about "doing it right" doesn't necessarily match the actual development process for various reasons.
But yeah if people think they can "do it right" then by all means, hit up that link Taco man posted. We'll see what happens.

I can't recall any characters on the series referring to DS9 as a "monstrosity," but regardless of that I disagree with your premise.
Earth Spacedock is the central hub for a massive military/diplomatic/scientific organization that spans half the known galaxy. As such, it's huge.
Terok Nor was designed to be an ore refinery staffed largely by slave labour. It's relative small size seems right to me. It has docking ports for six large ships and at least six more smaller vessels, massive cargo space, and relatively small livable space - enough for the slaves and their Cardassian overseers.
Edit: Regarding the in-game size of Deep Space Nine, I'm going to have to side with the devs on this one. As much as a part of me wants to see it sized "properly," it's proper size is closer to the one seen in Sector Space. Once you got 50 player ships clustered around it, it'd be completely invisible.
...talking to players is like being a mall Santa. Everyone immediately wants to tell you all of the things they want, and you are absolutely powerless to deliver 99% of them.
It's a game. Stuff has to be scaled differently for playability reasons. If you don't understand something that basic, you'll never work in that side of the industry...
"Participation in PVP-related activities is so low on an hourly, daily, weekly, and monthly basis that we could in fact just completely take it out of STO and it would not impact the overall number of people [who] log in to the game and play in any significant way." -Gozer, Cryptic PvP Dev
in this picture, the sovereign's saucer is wider then the scimitar's hull at the nose, its not even close in game. also, not counting the warp engines, the soverign is longer then the hull section on the scimitar, its clearly not in game, about even.
ya its supposed to be big, but it is way oversized. it will still be huge, and a bit more manageable to fly, if it was properly shrunk just a bit.
I can't find the post in which I talked about the Scimitar before, but here are some models to compare, taken in 3d Studio Max, from a non-perspective top view, and listing their relative sizes.

That being said, I think a big problem is that the camera is to far away from the ships, which makes the scales seem off. I really wish they had gone through with your idea a while back about sticking the camera closer.
The Defiant was shown in vastly different scales at different points in the show, so there is really more of a range for it's length than an actual number. Your 122m for the Defiant is on the small side of that range. Generally it's somewhere between 120m and 170m. We're at that upper end, but still well within the loose canonical size for the ship.

EDIT: And possibly my last sentence on this Scimitar topic: I'll never understand why an already huge ship was scaled up in a game that already has traffic jams and where another large ship got scaled down because of size (Jem dreadnought).

I understand that, but to me, the Defiant always felt more natural at it's smallest depiction (About 110-120 meters or so) The one in game is closer to 160. It feels way too big.

Also the Dev's are DS9 fans in fact people in the forums love to complain how Cryptic has a biased towards DS9 than the other shows.

Seriously, let's cut the size of that monstrous Donatra ship in half first; then we'll talk.
I know there are girls playing this game, can some of you tell these guys size does not matter;)

Good work. Leave this here and lock the thread IMHO.

Please, tell me more about this brass tax you speak of and how it has anything to do with STO and your competence?
SCOTUS Judges can leave of their own accord for various reasons too.
I'd hope it's because Cryptic decided we need more (Klingon) ships, and more artists to make them look good versus anyone leaving.
Or maybe Cryptic has decided that the ship artists are getting old, and need to have younger ship artists train under them?

But as for scale, yeah it's my biggest issue with the game.

I was right here. The Scimitar is overly huge. Should be about 900 meters long.
