I knew a thread like this would happen.

Im pleasantly surprised at the universal backlash against it.

I have met, and interacted with, many wonderful people in my short time here on STO. I have three different characters, one for each faction, and therefore I am in 3 different fleets. I spend Zen freely when I see the necessity, or when I really want something from the C-store; I am still learning how the game mechanics work, so I'm still trying to figure out how to survive a one-on-one encounter with a Borg cube. You might call me the typical gamer here on STO. Oh, btw, I'm a Gold subscriber.

Does that make me better than any of the Free-to-play subscribers? Of course not. I'm still waiting for my monthly Zen allotments to be reimbursed to me. What I don't understand is why someone who subscribed for life (with one lump sum) is upset when the company decides to offer something to others that HE ALREADY HAS!! If he didn't have any of the items then I could understand his point. But he already has them, and he's still complaining? That means that he's the type of person that isn't going to be satisfied with anything, and I'm glad I haven't met any of those types of people here...until now, that is. Have a great weekend, everyone!!!!:)

trolling is against the forum rules.OP post cant be serious ...its impossible.

Off-topic... it's understandable that the OP would be at least a little disappointed that he bought stuff that he could've gotten for free.

But let's be really clear here... there is a difference between venting and deliberately crafting a post to try to get people upset. While you could make a case for the latter here, it's not cut-and-dry. Nobody was insulted or put down, no foul language was used, and the OP wasn't clearly trying to start an argument.

THAT just sort of happens naturally around here. Premeditation not required.

Section 17 of the Terms of Service clearly state:

"PWE may charge fees to access and acquire certain game items or participate in game activities on the Website and may allow the purchase of in game "points" that may be applied to the purchase of in game items or activities ("Zen") ANY APPLICABLE ZEN, FEES AND OTHER CHARGES ARE PAYABLE IN ADVANCE AND ARE NON REFUNDABLE AND NONTRANSFERABLE, IN WHOLE OR IN PART, FOR ANY REASON. ZEN HAVE NO MONETARY VALUE AND CANNOT BE REDEEMED FOR CASH."

You agreed to these terms. So no refund for you.

Clicking "I agree" on a click-through disclaimer does not necessarily limit your legal right to a refund regardless of what the agreement states. Many parts of that agreement are doubtlessly unenforceable in court. However, in the case of a product being sold for a certain price at a certain time and then being sold for a different price (or given away) at a later time, that should reasonably considered to be the normal conduct of business unless there existed an implied or overtly-stated price guarantee at the time of sale.

I am very, very aware of this. And I wouldn't have mentioned it if he had legitimate cause for refund (e.g. defective product).

You feel things should be retroactively applied so that if the prices change it is applied to your previous transactions as well? Seems rather sado-TRIBBLE.... but alright. Given the tax rate hikes, that's going to be really rough with those back taxes you'll owe.

I help run two fleets each with 500 people and we have way more lifers than 20.

Nothing was said about the give aways at all expect happiness for others.

We all think its great that players get some new stuff.

So dont go and woo woo your horn, just becuase you dont want others to have fun.

But I guess not all fleets care about their fellow STO players or members.

We just had a fleet meeting we gave away ships, shuttles, weapons, doffs, fleet modules, and KEYs as door prizes.

So you can see we are not a bunch who just cares about what we get.

Learn to share and care about others, it gives you a good feeling at the end of the day.

Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
Let me put the rumors to rest: it's definitely still the C-Store (Cryptic Store) It just takes ZEN.

I think when you purchase an end-game ship from Cryptic, there is an implied contract that you are purchasing the exclusive right to use that ship, which will remain a valued commodity/service usable for endgame play for the life of the game.

Now, if Cryptic were to suddenly make this ship free, it might be breaching that implied contract and the purchaser would be due compensation.

However, merely making it free on a limited time promotional basis does not breach that implied contract as it still remains a limited and valued commodity/service.

No, no, no, no, no. Not under any circumstances is this true.

It's debated if the implied contract/warranty of merchantability applies to digital goods, however, pricing rules in the implied contract are that you are agreeing to purchase at the current price, which you are accepting as agreeable, and the seller carries *absolutely no future obligations* to that price, and you have no right to restitution if that price or terms of availability change.

If you buy an item for $500, and it goes on clearance for $200 the next week, you are not entitled to the $300 difference. In fact, returning the item and buying it at the lower price, even if in accordance with the seller's return policy, can be prosecuted as fraud in many locations. This is why retailers will, in such a case, only allow you to return it for the discounted price, and may not allow you to return it at all.

I was actually hoping it would be useless stuff...

I didn't want to see the items I grinded out over long periods of time given out to everyone.

There isn't a single item or outfit from the giveaway I will be using and today's science console can't even be used on normal ships.

I mean we knew it was going to items that don't sell but a science console you can't use come on now...

I doubt a judge would agree. When you purchase a ship in the game, you're not actually purchasing anything at all in a legal sense. You purchase the ZEN, which you then redeem for the ability to use a piece of digital code, a service. So really this is a matter about the provision of services, which as they can only be provided on a case by case basis, can likewise be charged (or provided gratis) on a case by case basis.

It's far more complicated than a simple transaction at a fixed price. But it's Friday night and I don't want to start a moot about digital service provision... I want to fly around in my new Nebula Class :P

All T5 ship universal consoles are restricted to that specific class or their variants only. It's always been like that.

I.. see my purchases as donations to support the developers of a game that I enjoy spending my time with..

I already had about half of the stuff in the giveaway. Do I see it as a 'waste' of money? No. I know that money went towards keeping this game going, and I don't think that was a 'waste' in any way.

As a lifer who's been in this game since four days after launch, I couldn't agree with you more, neoakiraii.

We lifers already get 500 ZEN a month free, as well as free inventory and bank slots, free respecs, ship slots, character slots, costume parts, and a whole slew of other TRIBBLE. When I look at what all this stuff would have cost across all of my characters, my LTS has paid for itself and then some. What in the world makes some people feel they're entitled to more than that?

YES, EXACTLY, THANK YOU. You do not get additional compensation for having bought something at a more expensive price than others do. This is simply not how the world works.

If you had it already, great, good for you, nothing changes. It is as if the give away never happened. Move along, there are no droids to see here.
