An observation for PvE types

macarthur1961macarthur1961 Member Posts: 107 Arc User
I have noticed over the last few months a trend I find disturbing: Folks rushing out of PvE sessions without saying,"GG", "Thx" or anything else to those whom they just teamed with.
This only used to happen when the STF or whatever went bad... and even then folks would usually say SOMETHING that wasn't an insult before rocketing off.
As a vetran with thousands of hours into ESTFs and other PvE and PvP aspects of STO, I am saddened that I can no longer use this time after missions to explain to new players and VAs, what they may have done wrong and how to get guarenteed optionals; Subsequently, this factor and the recent changes to PvE mechanics have resulted in a higher frequency of "bad" STFs: I can't even help folks to get better as they IMMEDIATELY leave!!! This merely seems to result in more folks insulting and getting irritated at their PvE teamates instead of working together towards mutual respect and common victory.
I understand that most of U are so focused on trying to maximize the efficiency of your game time due to grinding... but come on...!! How long does it take to be sociable and simply type something to acknowledge the folks whom just helped get an Optional on an ESTF with you... even the busiest folks in the RL world take time for social graces.
I realize the art of Ettiquette is dead for most people... but please try to comfort an ancient alien and act more like the sociable animals we are supposed to be...!! There are 2 reasons we rule this little planet, Earth... because we are the most aggressive AND the most sociable animal on the planet... let's not forget this, K...? LOL How will will ever take over the galaxy if we lose this important ability before we even colonize our first new world...? Be more like Kirk, Picard, Janeway and Archer: chat on the way in and the way out...!!
Live long and prosper, Folks...!! C U in game... [and hopefully we will have a chance to chat]

I have noticed that too. Then again I remember reading a thread around here that said people are just saying "GG" without even thinking anymore.

I actually like to talk a bit while fighting, other wise why not just play with the computer?? Often times I get a situation where I feel like I am talking to myself, or I wonder if anyone on my team speaks English...

Yeah I've notice this as well. Most of the time I'm the last to leave an Elite STF, and I always at least say thankyou. Too bad everyone is in such a rush these days lol.

Quite common in any game where the content becomes a grind. It's no longer GG when you have done it so much you just dont enjoy it anymore. I try to say it when evrything including optionals are done but sometimes i am just numb from doing things over and over that i just leave to queue for the next repeat event. You camnt blame anyone for getting that way when theres just so few events and they do them a million times.

Nowadays, most people are just in it for the grind.

I generally stay for the full 3 minute timer, conversing with anybody else who stays (sometimes we speak strategy), if nobody else is around - I just flutter about looking at my pretty ship, and letting abilities cool down ;)

I often disapprove of people who toss out a "GG" and disappear instantly, especially since in most of my games there was at least one major **** up by somebody. I have had the occasional nice conversation discussing what went wrong, but those are few and far between.
Offers of help are too frequently treated as insults.

I do try too. As a SCI captain I usually hang around at the end healing others if they got caught in explosions or just in generally poor shape. I know there is no need to but I think of it as a small gesture in of itself. I do admit on not a conversation starter but I've had nice convos with others during PVE missions and it's always nice :)

You know what? I've stopped saying gg all the time in pugs and premades now. I think it's because once you've done that many, and you're just autopiloting for dil - it's all so safe and nothing ever goes wrong, and it's become so easy and predictable that it there's no sense of actual accomplishment, so "gg" seems somewhat pointless.

I guess it's polite, but it's a pretty meaningless gesture. If the team had been talking and friendly then sure, but if it's been dead silence standard STF then what's the point?

It takes real effort to be polite. That's why I turned off automatic fleet invitation. Now people talk to me. Amazing.

In my view, there's nothing polite or sociable about "gg" or "thx" at the end of a PvE session. It's meaningless and hollow to spit out a couple of letters to observe some forced etiquette.

If the game was unusually good, chances are I'll comment (though half the team will have warped/beamed out already). If someone bothers to use whole words or even type an entire sentence, I will most likely respond.

    Gg, thx? Nty.

Well have to admit i1m one of those who often leave without saying anything (but not always). These days i often see no reason to say even GG, why? Some leave b4 me, no1 says anything during figth, every1 does his part, we get opt, and beat the game, since it goes smooth, i assume they all did this already, and judging from their accolade points they are njust alts that still in the process of grinding, no1 (including me) really cares for good STF for a few reasons: no more challenge, its easy to beat along with the optionals, not many source of getting omega marks, a sector encounter give so few u cant even run a project, the birds will soon go away on risa, defera is buggy long and boring after a few runs, stf gives the most marks that we need and we dont care if its optional or not, i put in marks for projects and try to calculate how many stf do i have to do and not "wasting" time to say anything as i just stare at the counter as my 5 bnp becomes 1k dil and i spend it back to another gear project, whether it was an actual gg or not, in the end all that counts is the marks, i'm aware its a bad behavior but it wasnt my choiche to turn game into grinding, and by the time i look up from projects theres no1 left to tell gg anyway

thats all you will get from me is 'gg'. This game has turned into a GD grindfest. I aint got time to say s@#t. Work most of the day, come home wanna play some STO before i have to go to bed & start this endless loop all over again, so i aint got time to BS about nothing. If this game wasnt about grinding 24/7 a person would be able to say something.

So, you admit to being bored and numb from forcing yourself into an endless grind that you don't like and pretty much hating yourself and through that, being socially awkwards towards others? I'm all up for what you're saying but Co'mon, you've just stated you finish the stf, start off a project for marks / BNP's into dilithium, wait till it's done and -then- decide to talk to someone. After All that you admit that "It's all about the Marks" with that sentiment you're not really going to be talking to anyone unless you're feeling an overwhelming urge too are you?

To me, I'm always happy to be social on this game. To talk to others, help out newpeeps and to get my kit in. Everyone talks about the "Grind" in the game.. yet I fail to see it. Everything in life is a "grind" but it's done on your terms, if you let an MMO TELL YOU that you need to grind 500 marks RIGHT NOW then you're doing gaming wrong. You should be having fun, and by extension, making other people have fun. If you're having a bad day you'll make others have a bad day.
seriously ? you are hurt because you expect a pat on the back ?

    lol...people will complain about anything.
Courtesy costs nothing but even then, no one is willing to give the 5 seconds it'd take to type out a coherent sentence. All because they want to be in and out at the click of a finger, or even worse, to sit AFK and let everyone else do the work for them. It surprised me of how polite the community is in this game and the adult conversations that go on. Then we have people that just berate others for having an opinion. Yes, you're entitled to yours but this is a "forum" for discussion and you aren't discussing anything.

I wish people would be nicer to one another in STF's and I'd always wish people would stop complaining about the "Grind" ST:O has, IMHO this is the least grindy of all the MMO's I've played. You want a real grind? Try playing World of War craft (Lol the profanity filter blocks out the proper spelling) with multiple Alts and try get them reputation kit. You'll be doing the same 5 quests for a week or two and have a daily quest limit of 20. At least I can run STF's whenever I want for some marks and not feel restricted.

I'll be more likely to send off a little passing praise if I DID NOT HAVE TO RE-SELECT THE "TEAM" CHANNEL EVERY TIME I PUG A NEW TEAM.

That's just stupid, annoying, and indefensible.

Exactly this. Thanks for writing it up, so I don't have to.
It's the price you pay for making things 'casual'. The quality of your playerbase and their social interaction is degrading.

Yes, people complain about everything. However in this case the OP has a valid point, whereas you are just trying to be a cheap internet bully. That belongs on the schoolyard. Stay out if the topic is too mature for your likings.

Sounds like you got chat muted, but a couple weeks is a long time for that to last. Anyway if the chat is bugged for you then I wouldnt worry about it since it is not your fault for being rude in some peoples eyes.

Only on the STO forums would someone whinge about the proliferate use of "gg". I'm as loquacious as the best of 'em and I often only use that letter. Why? Because it's a univeral indicator that everyone knew their role.

This past weekend I was in a Mine Trap and at the end two people said "GG" and left. Then one guy in zone said "I see everyone say that, what does GG even mean anyway?"

Honestly, I wasn't sure if it was a troll or not. Turned out to be honest.

I used to give a "GG, TY" until I realised I was the only one still doing it a few months back. Now, if I have a good PUG group, I just pop off a fireworks display before warping out.

I'll say GG if it actually WAS a good game, but if it was a bunch of morons that I'm happy to be through with, I can't warp/beam out of there fast enough.

Actually we're the ones that sit in fleet chat wondering why no ones talking to us and we should get a new fleet. Probably because they're all busy rolling around in their Omega marks crying about the grinding of the game ?

This is why I don't do pugs, for the most part. I only pug Klingon Fleet Alert, as there's rarely enough Klingon players on in my fleet to organize a KFA when I wanna do it.

My fleet-organized matches actually feature people talking, engaging in small talk, and some basic coordination to ensure people don't get confused. It's a nice improvement over the mindless, boring, repetitive pug matches. It should get very interesting when the new content comes in.

So what I've learned from the STO forums is that saying gg or thx at the end of a PvE is pointless but if I don't do it I am a rude TRIBBLE.... which just goes to show you.... you can't please everyone. In most pubs I don't even bother saying much if anything except maybe quick informatives like in azure for location and type..... and the only time I see anyone speak in conduit is to berrate and badmouth a newbie if they cost the team an optional.

I respectfully disagree. I didn't see anything in his post that implied he was being a bully, merely astonished that someone expects positive recognition from complete strangers in a pug.

And personally I'm not surprised to hear that people leave before the OP can tell them how he thinks they should improve themselves on missions. Most people I know don't like unwanted and unasked for "advice" from a complete stranger.

Regardless of the advice givers intentions many people consider it rude and obnoxious behavior.

It's one of the main reasons I have disabled every chat channel except the private channels my fleet-mates use.
Which is elitist and obnoxious in itself....
