Other people CAN talk to me in channels that were set up by the leaders of the fleet I'm in.
Not only do I talk to fellow STO players in those channels, I talk to players in Never Winter and Champions because those channels span all three games.
The only people I don't listen to in STO are the ones I don't interact with. I don't pug, PvP, do STF's, or any content that requires team mates so there is no reason for me to pay any attention to channels I never use.
In other words, only your friends can talk to you, at all, ever....
are you purposely being abrasively confrontational ?
it's almost stalkerish the way you are chastising him for the way he chooses to play the game.
kinda weird.
Here's the thing... He's being harshly critical of someone for trying to help others while taking an elitist attitude towards the existence of other players in the game....
And the only defense you or him has provided can be summed up as "It's my choice how I play the game.".
EDIT to clarify:
Free advice does not in any way, legally, ethically, or morally, bind the reciepient to follow it. If you don't like it you are free to ignore it. Therefore getting upset at recieving it is kinda childish.
I tend to play at oddball hours, so I usually throw out a 'gg' at the end of a run instead of regular English that other players may not fluently speak.
I'll generally reply to hello's and assignment queries during and at the start of a run. There are times when people simply aren't interested in socializing, or do not speak the same language though. Regardless, I do still enjoy the chaotic nature of PUGs.. even if the player atmosphere has become a bit more 'cold' than it used to be.

Yeah I like to talk to the team, it's nice to coordinate with the others, especially in a PUG where you don't know what loadout they have.

He was in no way harsh...he just stated he preferred to 'not' have to deal with random internet players in order to enjoy the game....then you preceded to chastise him for his choice of limiting his social interactions from anonymous sources.
but like I said before...I would ignore a personality like yours ingame as well .....
good luck and game on ! ...but don't look me up.... I will more than likely ignore you.:cool:

Not harsh? He called all people who offer advice to others obnoxious. Bolded for emphasis:
And personally I'm not surprised to hear that people leave before the OP can tell them how he thinks they should improve themselves on missions. Most people I know don't like unwanted and unasked for "advice" from a complete stranger.
Regardless of the advice givers intentions many people consider it rude and obnoxious behavior.
It's one of the main reasons I have disabled every chat channel except the private channels my fleet-mates use.
Ok, he may not have said it outright, but he made his point quite clearly.
I'll be more likely to send off a little passing praise if I DID NOT HAVE TO RE-SELECT THE "TEAM" CHANNEL EVERY TIME I PUG A NEW TEAM.
That's just stupid, annoying, and indefensible.
Yes... team chat can be annoying... but in 5 player maps, zone and local channels are no different than team chat. Tune to either of them, then all you would have to fix every mission would be your skills tray.
I say this after every PvE pug match unless it ends in a total disaster, like the Kang somehow gets destroyed.
I don't care about optionals. Another 15 marks is peanuts. If my team helps me get any kind of reward, I say thank you.
If it got particularly difficult, but we still pulled it off, I say "Thanks for staying to the end! "
...Oh, baby, you know, I've really got to leave you / Oh, I can hear it callin 'me / I said don't you hear it callin' me the way it used to do?...

When people stop saying GG after blowing the optional in even the easiest of STF's maybe I will give it some thought.
Don't get me wrong, I miss the days of thanks and Good JOB, when the STF was actually run well. Today people cant even be bothered to do a little bit of research on how to run STF's, they just go in and do their own thing and rely on other peoples ability to hopefully fix the mess they create.
pugs are for people who lack the initiative to put together a real team themselves.....
pug'ing should be a last resort...and if you are at that point, don't whine that it didnt work out.
5 mans are called 'teams' for a reason..... and a pug is not a team in the most important way.
it's not hard to get a team together and discuss the 'plan' before you go in..... but it does take a spoonful of initiative above and beyond just clicking a 'join' button.

I see no problem here. This player doesn't pug, so why would anyone criticize him/her for not using open channels? Sounds like a mature, sane individual to me.
My only question would be 'What are you doing on the forums then?' LoL. But I look for irony in everything.

I would ignore you too.....

Hey sweet someone else this happens to!!.......
Eh - I choose to be polite because I would want it if it were the other way around, even if it never gets reciprocated...

I do try to reply when people say it though, I guess.
And for me, 7/10 games can be classified as good, so there's no need, really.
I consider it worthwhile because even if you consider it a grind fest (I don't,) you put in the time to help me grind, and no one's time is free.
Besides, why not encourage good behavior, a sense of community, and inclusion? To do otherwise only requires a periodic visit to the forums.

lol 6 stfs are enough to fill few thousands hours of work. They worked less man hours to send people on the moon
^^^this is the problem I have. I keep zone chat turned off for sanity reasons, so unless people use the broken team chat I never see it.
