This happens almost every time I enter a system or sector block. Is there any way to just download ALL of this data independently while I sleep or something? Or perhaps as a background download while I play?

    You can go into Options on the Launcher and unclick the box that says "disable on-demand patching." That will download most of the game files onto your computer - and it will take some time to do the download so you might want to start it at night. You'll also often get a little bit of a patch every time you load the launcher. It might help somewhat.
    STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.
