I certainly hope so. I have read posts saying they hoped or planned to do so, but nothing confirming that it will actually be done. It would certainly be more appropriate than Phaser or Disruptor (Klingon design model) versions.
[To the devs]: The easiest method to do this wouldn't be to rewrite the code for deciding which set a Romulan gets access to, but rather unlocking an additional Reputation project. Add a single Reputation project that allows Romulan faction players to change the damage type (not proc) of their MACO or Honor Guard (not Adapted versions) to Plasma, and requiring the equipment + 20% of the other ingredients needed to make that piece of equipment. That way you could leave the current unlocks in place while still allowing the option of Plasma for Romulan players. You could also get us to pay for it, which you usually like to do.
With each passing day I wonder if I stepped into an alternate reality. The Cubs win the world series. Donald Trump is President. Britain leaves the EU. STO gets a dedicated PvP season. Engineers are "out of control" in STO.

Isn't the Romulan version of the MACO/KHG the Romulan set available from the Romulan Rep?
Edit: Didn't misread this didn't notice you said Ground set.
I was once DKnight1000, apparently I had taken my own name so now I'm DKnight0001. If I ask you a question it is not an insult but a genuine attempt to understand why. When I insult you I won't be discreet about it, I will be precise and to the point stupid.
Hehe, fair point... I did refer to the wrong weapons, lol. It is rather entertaining to shoot Borg with their own severed arms :P
But still, Task Force Omega set (Omega, MACO, Honor Guard, and their "Adapted" variants) weapons would be rather nice to come in Plasma variants for Romulan players. I would even be willing to do a second "Retrofit" Reputation project in order to convert the damage type of those weapons to Plasma.

I still think Romulans should have stuck with Disruptors, rather than plasma :P
I'm mostly interested in what the ground set would look like. Currently we have:
KHG set - which is by far the best looking thing in the game.
MACO set - Personally, I think it's quite hideous.
Omega set - I approve of the generic Spec Ops-y feel, but I'm not entirely sure whether I actually like it.
Other people may have higher priorities than the appearance, I've always been a bit too interested in form over function... Although, I'd have to say KHG wins on both there

Considering the reputation system is about to get a redo... dont bet on that option

Am I the only one who thinks that the MACO and Omega set's visual appearance should have been swapped? Like I don't think that the MACO set looks hideous, but of the two I would have thought MACO would have looked more like commandoes.
It would be nice if there was a Romulan set with Plasma Weapons.
Except that all of the sets have plasma resistance which would put a plasma weapon set at a disadvantage in PvP.
I would suggest that the Romulan Omega Force Set should be Disruptors (RSE heritage) that have the plasma proc in addition to the disruptor proc. To further boost the usefulness, traits/skills/abilities/gear that boost disruptor or plasma damage would BOTH apply to this set.
While Romulans would have access to this at the same time as they would for the general Omega requisition projects, the KDF or Starfleet players would have to have Tier 5 Reputation in addition to the minimum Omega Reputation to acquire the Republic's Omega Gear.

I think I agree. I was quite disappointed when I discovered absolutely none of the MACO stuff bears any similarity to the MACOs seen in the show...
The Omega Carbine is much closer to MACOs rifles in ENT :P

Romulans get an innate bonus to Plasma, so their sets should have plasma. The handful of people who do ground PvP can get other gear if they feel plasma resistance is too abundant.
Romulan Omega Wide-Beam Plasma Rifle w/ grenade launcher. Do want.

Sounds awesome as I am loving the Wide Beam Plasma Rifle, but how would it work? Not that I'm against 3 firing modes but it's 1 more than every other gun gets.
1, Single Shot
2, Wide Beam
3, Grenade
4, Hit people with Rifle Butt.

Good point. Hopefully they just stick with a simpler account-wide version; when they get ambitious it usually creates odd bugs and the infamous general server stability update for the following few weeks... though sometimes they come up with amazing new toys.
We'll just have to wait and see what gets OP, UP, or nerfed next. :P

My point was that a Republic Omega disruptor set WOULD be enhanced by the Romulan Trait for Plasma weapons. Your suggestion still leaves Romulan characters at a distinct disadvantage.

Exactly the issue.... Its not so bad as KDF because at least disruptors are appropriate - but a Feds get screwed with phasers.
And the KDF costumes are very Klingon. Its bad enough we were FORCED to align but we shouldn't be made to have to look like our Blood Enemies.
To me its all simply pure laziness from the Devs... I mean seriously all that time spent on Bird pets could have been better used improving Romulans.
As it stands now I feel like most of the ground Omega stuff is a complete waste of my dilithium.

In a portion of the game almost no one plays, ground PvP.

You don't queue for it that often do you? KDF vs. Fed ground arena fires off for me just as often as any space match.
Given the choice between ground or space arena, I prefer ground; you can loot the medical crates for a few extra energy credits, and if you pick up large hypos, sheilds or energy cells, you can apply them to the reputation projects.
In Cap and Hold(space) or Assault(ground), I tend to prefer Assault(ground) since it is easier to kill ground turrets for the KDF mission "Turret Killer" than space turrets.

Good thing for you they make an antiproton set as well then.
>_> Take one of them plasma repeater rifles out of the dilithium store, give it more DPS
Then take the omega set and give it a bonus to stealth for the two piece, and a bonus to ambush damage for three piece (along with the integral frequency remodulation)
And there you go, plasma spraying spies of doom. Coming soon to a PvP ground arena near you.

Not a bad idea. I would suggest that part of the three set bonus should be a plasma resistance "burn through"; as in, it ignores the plasma resistance of the target.

Which post...? NO!!! I failed to disregard it! EPIC FAIL!
Um, Plasma STF ground weapons would be nice... see, I'm on topic.
Borg Armatures. Your STF plasma ground weapons.

idk, does the KHG/MACO that the romulans get, visually look different?

Also, Romulan dilithium store guns or fleet advanced guns. They work pretty well in STFs too.

Don't get a Set Bonus like the FED/KDF do with Phasers/Disruptors.

Give the Romulans a Piercing Plasma Sniper rifle.
Full set bonus cloaks the wearer when crouched but allows you to fire while "Cloaked" even providing a range and damage boost.
This 1000 times.
Adapted is cross faction MACO/KHG. Seems only fair that Roms get their own versions too.
No. Your fun makes everyone else's fun wrong by default.
