Those ships in question are the most ugly and nonsensical looking kitbashes ever concieved by man and whoever designed those things should feel really, rally bad.
I don't know why ships have to get bigger and bigger all the time and why the original designs have to get more and more ludicrous instead of adding more ships from, you know... Star Trek?
I really like that Dev statement regarding the typhoon or jupiter or whatever it's called. At one point they will raise the level cap to "full admiral" and include t6 ships. The thing is - each and every player reaches level cap within a few days and then there are no lower tiers since they aren't viable anymore. This is why "levels" in STO are completely obsolete, just let people use every ship in "endgame" and let them customize those ships. I want to see more divercity at endgame, not the same three ships over and over again.
Oh and, btw: Another "Fed only" thread being jealous at the newest pseudo-faction with nect-to-nothing content and almost exclusive payships? Seriously?

The Scimitar is the equivalent of the vesta (not for his stats, but as a faction ship). Someday in the future, the Romulan will also have the Bortasqu'/Odyssey equivalent, and the timeship. I suppose the KDF will also have the equivalent of the vesta, I think it will be an engineer oriented ship, my guess on a battlecruiser.

Well, if this is true then Cryptic is speaking in two tongues or blatantly contradicting themselves. It is what it is either way. First they were acting like flagships and dreadnoughts were different game ship classes and now they are just store titles... *sigh*

The problem with stating that something is ugly or not is that it is usually quite subjective, what you find attractive others may find ugly and vice versa. Personally I find the Typhoon a very appealing ship on many levels and it's visual appearance is made more aggressive by the twin nacelles.
it's an ugly kit bash, that even Cryptic themselves don't like which is why if the ship is ever made playable they will give it a brand new model.
I would prefer to have the Excalibur-class ship (Mark II) battleship over the typhoon it's twice the size of the sovereign and it has some mean special quantum torpedos that eat shield and hull Anyway its from the Bridge commander game so I dont know if cryptic can use it !?

The Jupiter and Typhoon are already in the game, and some people want them. I don't see what harm is done by just letting people have them...
Well I don't get that people get Scimitar in first place, but if we go to let's every one have what ever they want then, ok let's have tehm. The Scimitar has already break the barrier of the acceptable.
The Jupiter and Typhoon are just some Dreadnought ships that the devs created as purely npc ships. If we ever get the Jupiter and/or Typhoon, then they would not look the same.

The Scimitar was made only for NPC by the scenarist of the movie so why player can have it? Though I agree that we need more ship from the series and that they should be playable, I don't see why preventing people to fly existing ship when there is no rational in the ship available to the player. I would prefer that there was some rational but the fact is there is not. So I defend people who want the typhoon in, because the Scimitar should be out.
Disclaimer : I do think that Romulan need more ship first.
Romulans needed something like the Scimitar, among other things. Currently the Romulans are lacking in selection, the Scimitar, Tulwar & Falchion help out with that.
IF we make the Typhoon &/or the Jupiter playable ships, they will get a complete face lift. By face lift, I mean be completely remade from scratch. Exactly like the Scimitar, D'Deridex, Mogai, & T'Varo. Here's an example, comparing the original NPC Scimitar with the new player-version that was made from scratch.

I'm happy with that.
Any chance the redesign could happen even before a player version? Seriously, those things are butt ugly.
"Critics who say that the optimistic utopia Star Trek depicted is now outmoded forget the cultural context that gave birth to it: Star Trek was not a manifestation of optimism when optimism was easy. Star Trek declared a hope for a future that nobody stuck in the present could believe in. For all our struggles today, we haven’t outgrown the need for stories like Star Trek. We need tales of optimism, of heroes, of courage and goodness now as much as we’ve ever needed them." -Thomas Marrone

This does make sense being that if this were the case for any ship why geko said there wouldn't ever be any gorn/orion/nausicaan/lethean etc ships and *if* there were to be any new KDF ones they would be of Klingon design although we were told there was going to be a c-store negh'var but that hasn't seen the light of day and that was stated back in Feburary I believe in a podcast can't remember which one it was though.
Main things if we can't get any new ships of those stated races then possibly some more bop variants, 5 tact console raptor, and a decent tactical negh'var something close to what the fleet vor'cha has.
The other thing doesn't seem to be in your department but I love bops and they are a *raider* type class of ship but we don't have anything raider specific. Some could debate pi canis sorties are but those are along the difficulty of someone leveling up because most players they do those with something you would use in stf or pvp and you fail the missions from doing too much damage to freighters.

Because the Roms needed a ship equiv of the Fed Oddy and KDF Bortasqu more than the feds needed yet another ship.
count up you fed ships then count up the rommie ships do the math and you will know why :D
system Lord Baal is dead
that is a player made mod

And, I don't see what people like about the Jupiter. It's a seagull that swallowed a bathtub. Little nacelles on big ship... no thanks. Just sayin'.
No it isn't... stop with the lies i say
Typhoon ftw
That said if they do update the model of the Typhoon I hope we can get the "ugly kit-bashish low poly" skin too XD
I'm happy with that.

the lead ship should have been named the USS Speculum rather than Typhoon.
