Did anyone else catch the subtle little Trek reference they used with her in OITNB?
Kate Mulgrew's non-verbal acting is top-notch. She's a great, well rounded actress in general; but the way she can wear an emotion on her face is what really sets her apart, and OITNB has a lot of that. It's a very, very different character from Captain Janeway, certainly- but that sincerity in acting that made Janeway a great character (despite some inconsistent writing) is certainly present throughout.
And you clearly reveal your level of being. I'd suggest doing some more growing up before speaking kiddo.
god bless ya
I would recommend either a course in reading comprehension or a complete brain transplant if you accuse me of immaturity especially considering how you respond.
Going by the notion that age equals an increase in weight and that only surgery and expensive personal trainers can solve the problem is incredibly ignorant.
Growing fat and out of shape is a choice and not a natural result of aging. If you don't believe me then visit your local doctor.
If you don't overeat and move for 1 hour a day through light exercise by walking or riding a bicycle you can avoid it.
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.

With age comes a reduction in hormonal levels, which leads the body to more readily store excess calories as fat rather than muscle. Also, this reduces the body's ability to burn fat. Muscle cells also become slower to regenerate and less responsive to stimulus, which means that the body will more readily build fat.
These changes also have a slowing affect on one's metabolism, and a decrease in muscle density makes the stamina and rebound required for regular exercise more difficult. You can also factor in the basic wear and tear on the body such as arthritis and osteoporosis; these both make it more and more difficult for older folks to remain in shape.
The bottom line is, even if you're fit in your youth, and your caloric intake and exercise levels remain completely unchanged, you WILL gain weight as you age. To say otherwise is just patently false.

You forgot the skeletal changes which cause a reduction in height. I am not saying that your body is not prone to gain weight as you grow older, but with the small examples (don't overeat and exercise regularly) you can counter this for the most part.
In addition the regular exercise blunts the effects of the changes in hormonal levels and your metabolisms.
So the bottom line is that growing fat and out of shape IS a choice and NOT something that cannot be avoided.

But being more fat and out of shape than you would otherwise be under the same conditions when younger, is not avoidable. That's kind of the point here.

The point being made was that growing fat and out of shape could only be avoided by expensive personal trainers and surgery.
Even with age progressing growing (more) fat and out of shape is not unavoidable.
It does take a little more effort especially when you start at a later age, but when you started the routine from not overeating and walking/cycling/swimming for 1 hour a day early in your life then there is no problem whatsoever.
It's a choice and there's no denying that. Age is no excuse.
At the Internationale Vierdaagse Afstandsmarsen Nijmegen (Nijmeegse Avondvierdaagse) some of the participants were 90+ years old. I'll grant that these may be exceptions, but at the same time it shows that age is no excuse for being out of shape and growing fat.

Some of you people are so bigoted against the PHAT lifestyle. Poundage is the new cool, particularly on the toushie, and you ain't got it you just want it, jealousy and all. Next you'll be hating on women, gays, people of color, and their countries of birth. Leave the cheeseburger brigade alone and do something productive like nailing the neo-TRIBBLE or the man hating Jenny Craig weight pill-er.

Not a clue what a "PHAT lifestyle" is since i don't speak slang.
I guess working in healthcare does give a certain perspective. I'm close to 40 and I've seen people half my age with obesity, diabetes and heart problems. I've seen families having to cope with fathers/mothers with severe health problems while these could have easily been avoided.
People should take responsibility for their health and few things rub me more the wrong way than when people make excuses. It's selfish and most certainly not cool.
And do you seriously want to put commenting on personal responsibility regarding health on the same level as bigotry against women and racism? If you do, then i hope I'll sprout a couple of extra arms because a double facepalm is far from sufficient.

I think had it not been for her acting ability janeway and heck voyager wouldve tanked after season one due to the inept writting.
Imho mulgrew carried voyager but thats just my opinon

solution: eat less. You're not actually using the extra calories so you're better off not eating them.
