The bug did exist for a small number of people, of that there is no doubt. Even with the "lost" time there should have been enough days to get the pearls. Also no real debate there.
Main issue here I think is revealed if you visited Risa anytime in the last few days to a week. In between the normal nonsense you see in a highly populated zone chat, the main thing under discussion was "have I got time to get 1000 pearls?". A few guys (I think from NOP who were advertising their free starbase access thing, so were in residence on Risa) got to the point they were copying and pasting the math every few minutes in response to these questions explaining how many days were left and how many pearls that equated to.
How many people will claim to be victims of the bug, and in fact just started late?
On the flip-side it does seem a bit odd to keep Risa open till the 15th but stop the main reason to go there on the 2nd. I imagine part of the thinking is that it will be a good dil/zen/ec sink as people open boxes to get the lobi to buy their final pearls.
The running flying high every 20hrs suggestion amuses me. Its a free ship (which is pretty cool, flys nicely, and is highly customisable) but setting your alarm clock to run a race in the middle of the night seems a bit extreme.

lol yeah it is extreme but it is doable. they cant say it can not be done just I do not have the time or will to do it. and that is my point if it can be done in the allot time it does not need to be extended. yes it may be hard but it is and has been doable.
Trophies for killing FEDS ahh those were the days.
So you believe that doing something to improve customer satisfaction and correct a game error (not customer error) sets a bad precedent for the company? I hope a marketing career is not in your future plans...
So how do you propose for Cryptic to provide compensation for all of the previous in-game bugs then? (Looks like you're not in Marketing either...)
Bugs which affect limited offers are somewhat different than bugs which affect permanent portions of the game. They have extended several events due to such bugs.
So how do you propose for Cryptic to provide compensation for all of the previous in-game bugs then? (Looks like you're not in Marketing either...)
The fact that the TOS allows them to avoid responsibility for game bugs (and I'm assuming your reference to the TOS is correct because I haven't checked) doesn't mean that they CAN'T take responsibility. They can if they want to. The TOS is just a cover-your-a** recourse in case they don't want to address a specific problem.
Compensation for other bugs? They don't have to. Apparently, if we go by the TOS, neither do they have to fix any past, present or future bug, EVER. So why then do they bother to patch and fix some bugs? After all, they're not obligated, right? Because every company that sells a product (and they are selling, even when this is F2P) has to (1) maintain a minimum level of customer satisfaction and (2) have a product that serves its purpose. If bugs and problems keep on piling up, eventually customers will avoid the game like a plague even when it's free just to save themselves the frustration and the waste of time. For example, would you, or anyone, waste time and storage space to install a program in your computer if you know that it simply will not run, or that it will run but crash at least once every minute? That is an exaggeration, but it's simple to predict that when the rate of new bugs and problems exceeds the rate of solutions, then it's a matter of time before the game becomes unbearable or unplayable. That is why Cryptic devs are patching and fixing bugs even when the game's TOS doesn't require them to.
So, Cryptic can choose to bury its head in the TOS sand or they can, once in a while, do something to make the customer happy. As far as the game goes, the Risa festival, just like LoR, is a big PR event and a major highlight of the year. After all, it's the first summer event launched and first impressions are the ones that count the most. Consequently, it would serve Cryptic well to bump up its customer satisfaction balance (which is currently in the red) by addressing issues like the one presented in this thread, and any other Summer Event problems, to the satisfaction of those affected.
I don't really care one way or the other...my federation character has about 10 more days in order to secure the corvette...I'm not worrying about my Reman character doing this on Risa as I am still working on getting him to level 50
Like the OP i had this glitch (3 days into the event, and there was no way player side to resolve it) on 1 character running the event since I tweeted Branflakes on day 5 of the event and informed him of it and later that day received a response that they were looking into it I'm pretty sure they were aware of the problem that said we didn't get a patch on the 4th of july as expected and players had to wait until the 11th to get the issue resolved.
The character doesn't need the ship as I have 26 other characters also doing the event who will get a ship this sunday, but running the timer every 20hrs since the patch that character will also get the ship. But I'm also disabled and have nothing but free time so I feel for the people that had the glitch.
Will they extend it is very, very, very doubtful (insert no they won't here) Very rarely do they extend the deadline on anything unless it involves some extra potential profit for Cryptic.
I had this glitch on 2 toons, one of which the problem started on the second day of the event and was not able to do the mission for 2 weeks, this toon will not get a ship. The other should have time to make up for the lost missions.
....

Just my opinion.
And it appears to be a very selfish opinion. You want to be compensated for the bug that effects you, but everyone else's bug can go to hell... Can you imagine the uproar this will create if it was to come to pass???
(Like I said, it appears that you are not in marketing...)
It would sure help me if they extended the event... I'm pretty sure that I'm NOT going to be able to complete it for any character at this rate.
But if they don't, they don't. I suppose it won't kill me to hang on to Risian pearls for a year or so. And then I'll be able to spend more time exploring the map and less time running around.
Which is why I'm still doing the event when I can.
If next year they have a different reward and it takes Risian lohlunat sparklies instead of the pearls, I might be a bit peeved.

Please don't put words in my mouth because that is not what I wrote. I never wrote anything to belittle the importance of other bugs at all. On the contrary, you are belittling the importance of this topic just because there have been other bugs that have not been solved. That seems to suggest that NO bugs should be fixed unless ALL bugs are fixed. But I may be understanding you incorrectly.
If you carefully read the TOS statement, you will find a little clause stating that Cryptic is not responsible for games bugs...
Oh, so it's wrong if I ask them to fix a problem but it's Ok if they don't do anything because they are not "responsible for games bugs"? Wouldn't there be an even greater uproar if Cryptic stops fixing everything just because they are exempt from doing so?
Really, that is exactly the kind of conformist attitude that exacerbates the already deteriorated level of customer service affecting this game. If we can't ask for solutions, then I guess we should all just bend over and get it over with. There are tens of thousands of threads in these forums doing exactly the same thing, asking for solutions and service. Apparently we are all wrong and we need to shut up.
I mean, how exactly would an extension to the Corvette deadline affect you or anyone else? How would people be wronged? What's the loss to other players?
Let's look at it this way:
How many pearls will people still need to claim the prize? 1,000 pearls. Same as you and everyone else.
How many days will people still need to get the pearls (assuming one mission per day)? 25 days. Same as you and everyone else.
Would an extension make it easier or cheaper to claim the prize? No. Same cost, time and effort as you and everyone else.
Would the extension go beyond the end of the Summer Event? No. A two-week extension would basically put the deadline on the same date that the event ends, August 15th.
Would the extension take away from Cryptic any time needed to continue fixing bugs or creating new content? I wouldn't think so.
Would the extension break the game or have an adverse effect over the in-game economy or any other aspect of the game, now or in the foreseeable future? I wouldn't think so; there would be a relatively few more Corvettes flying around and the ships, nor the pearls can't be traded.
So what possible reason is there to oppose this? Out of spite? Mind you, this is not a case of self-entitlement. The ship is essentially free (just costs a few minutes per day) for any toon that can access the Risa event, so everyone is on a level field. Furthermore, those that benefit from an extension to the August 2nd deadline still have to partake of the event equally and for the same time as everyone else.
But that will only give me 17 days if I start today.
That's unfair!
I need it to be extended at least 8 moar days so I can get the ship by starting today.
Just saying if they are gonna extend 2 days, why not 10?
I have a Corvette, so you cant be starving. Hope this helped.
You could consider buying some zen with dilithium to buy keys, or even splash out with EC. Not ideal I know, but even with only 3 characters on an account its not many days worth of dil to get 10 keys.
I will complete my corvette on my main in a few days, but if everyone gets more days added just by asking, I could give my Alts the ships as well.
I did try to get a better head start: I bought 5 Lobi Boxes.
I got 44 pearls?!?
Stick with the race.
Hehe, yeah sry dude. I did get that you were maybe not being entirely serious. On the plus side, if you consider that 40 lobi roughly equals 40 pearls (seems to be an average of around 5 pearls per box) then every Flying High run is worth 8-10 opened boxes worth of lobi, meaning that you are getting 12 to 15mil EC for every race run!
This might be less good for people who wish to buy keys to get their remaining pearls......
first of Quick reply doesn't work, sort it out if you want users to have any use of your quick reply function, I'm using Opera Browser, as any sensible individual should.
And yes I agree you should extend deadline by 2 weeks, many of us aren't as active over summer and I've got only 500 pearls, so i'll take me a while to get another 500, considering I'm having difficulties of even launching my game launcher, coming up with errors unable to establish connection with patch server. sort it out guys come on.
