unable to authenticate:

what exactly is itunable to authenticate? id doesn't say, i keep wondering that and i just don't know, i do know is that it's stopping me from playing. any ideas?
Can you install the game? = yes
Can you patch to the latest version? = i can't get past the initial login, past the launcher longin becuase that's where the error message happens, even if i type in a wrong password, same error message.
Can you log into the game? = see above answer
Can you join the game and play? = see above answer
Where does the breakdown happen?= see above answer
Do you receive any error messages, what are they? = the pather gives the message in the bottem left "unable to authenticate:", however typing in nothing in username or password gives " unable to authenticate: Invalid username".
What have you tried to do to fix your issue? = un-install/re-install, bought steam delux version and tried that, used the net test utilitie of yours to check out all ports being unblocked (all were unblocked 100% by the way), repeatedly asked on the forums for ideas, banged head against desk (seriusly, i did this, thought it might help, how? dunno just did), also tried using the proxy settings in the options.
i have also added firewall exception, even turned it off and i still get this problem.
if any one asks a question that's already been asnwered i'm just going to quote.
EDIT: and if any dev does respond, please don't asnwer with the same "have you chekcked your internet conection?" or "are your ports unblocked?" and so on, it's all there in my post, i'm getting a little tired of people answering with (no offence) usless replies.
